Since the new contract, Mesaba has hired 14 in February and 14 in March.

On the latest Vacancy scheduled for the April 5th new hire class, "16" are slated to be hired. And which aircraft you will be placed? Looks half and half to me, but Mesaba places you where they need you, not on how you dazzle them in the interview or sim. MSP, DTW, CVG, and MEM are the bases. Mesaba has a good commuting clause if you decide not to move to one of these bases.

Oh and from what I understand the only way to get an interview is to have someone within the company walk in your resume. MGT is not taking any mail in resumes nor or are they advertising on the company website. I belive the minimums are 1000TT and 100 ME but from talking to a check airman, who is involved in the training dept, he said the competitive times are nearly 2000TT and 200ME. Good luck

T-Handle: Any knowledge of where the new Mesaba contract can be found? Aviationcontracts.com still has the old one.

I don't know if it's online yet but guess what, I don't even have a copy of the new contract nor do any Mesaba pilots!!! and it was ratified 2 months ago. I suppose they have been typing up the final draft and there is still bickering between the ALPA and Mesaba lawyers over little contractual language like crossing the Ts and dotting the "I"s.....

The commuting clause is in our Flight Operations Manual, not in the pilot contract. A good portion of mesaba pilots commute, especially the ones based in DTW and MEM. Basically as long as you give yourself at least 2 NWA, Mesaba or Pinnacle Flights to get to work (the second flight must be scheduled to arrive at least 1 hour prior to your report time), then that's all you need. What it allows the company to do is if you can't make it on the first flight for whatever reason(oversold, all jumpseats taken, mechanical, etc), then the company can elect to positive space you on the 2nd flight.

Man That's great for you Mesaba Guys. Our Pinnacle policy is similar as far as being listed on 2 flights but if we still can't get to work we'll be miss-tripped and have to fight like mad to prove we couldn't get to work. As far as them positive spacing us??? Yeah right we're just S.O.L. Oh and we have the healthiest pilots at my company. Because we cant call in sick or it's a carpet dance (that last part is a little exaggerated but it's darn near as close to the current policy). Still wish you guys would've walked. We respect you for not cow-towing to mgmt.

Rook
600' AGL Autopilot on.
'WHEW!'

I know a guy that had his old flight instructor walk in his resume and got an interview that way. Everyone that I know that was hired recently had someone walk in their resume.

according to the latest vacancy award posted today, most newhires went into the Saab in DTW, a few in MEM Saab and a couple to DTW Avro FO. I don't know the future of hiring at this point. I've heard rumors that XJ wants to hire up to 200 by the end of the year and I've heard that the month of May will be the last new hire class until we get new aircraft.

Considering movement is still very slow, it may be a while before you get off reserve, maybe a year?. It's not like the good ol days when we had an attrition rate of 10 or more per month.

And your seniority in class is done by age, oldest being the most senior. This will affect your initial domicile. Good luck!

Yeah, it takes them 2 months to get us copies of the contract, but it took them all of 45 minutes to sign off on a deal that will effect our lives for the next 5 years. Way to go Wychor !! Thanks for putting your personal gain and political future ahead of the pilots that you supposedly represent. When you new-hires meet this guy don't be fooled by his smooth talk, he has not an ounce of integrity in his body and is only interested in one thing - his political future within ALPA.

I still get a kick out out of some people that say 'Oh you're gonna upgrade soon, just watch.....' Still over 130 numbers from the most junior Captain award.

Uh yeah show me in the contract the says I'm going to upgrade.... I have disassociated myself from our MEC.
98% pilot solidarity to a 66% ratification.... real nice! Hats off to ya for the next 5+ years!

Oops, did I say that??

T Handle: You mean that some contracts have guaranteed upgrades? I must have missed that one.

AvrodriverJ85: I'm curious if you've said the same to Tom face to face?

This avrodriver is also not a fan of the TW......there is some decent talent in office as a whole, but Tom is all about national....he had his chance to look good in the spotlight...all the tough talk leading up to the strikedead line, telling everyone they needed 100% of the group behind a strike.......well I guesss it must have been the pilot groups fault, good old Tom didn't want to hurt the 2%'s feelings. Gutless showboy..........AD

XJ Captain -

Actually, I have said this to Tom, right to his face. He just gave me that typical Minnesotan 'doe-in-the-headlights' look. The guy is clueless about what this pilot group is all about. But, he's real clear on his personal agenda. For three years he ranted and raved about pilot solidarity and got us all worked up. Isn't it clear now why they never showed the pilot group the cards they were holding? They weren't afraid of what the company would counter with, oh no - these guys were afraid to show the pilot group just how weak of a hand they were holding. It's pretty clear where Wychors motives are and whose footsteps he's trying to follow - "Daddy Duane".

There's no proof, but I am sure that on the eve of the strike and into the extension, ole' Duane gave Tom a call on the bat phone and told him, "Well I've given you your 30 seconds of fame, now go in there and sign on the dotted line; there will be no strike".
With the stroke of a pen the 'Wychor Propoganda Machine" started with 'contract of our peers', "we saved your jobs", "the company would have claimed bankruptcy", "hey, FO's got a 20%+ pay-raise", and "hey, you got retro-pay".. (ALPA dues deducted of course).

Just remember all the ranting and raving in those pizza dinners and road shows about how our MEC was going to set the FO's straight. Did they? Nope, they just anchored them down for another 5 years of poverty and empty promises.

(History Lesson) XJ FO's make the same payrate regardless of whether they fly the 33 seat turbo-prop (Saab) or the 69 seat jet (AVRO). Our MEC harped for many years that they'd rectify this situation, we just needed to trust them. Guess what, didn't happen. In my book trust and respect are earned, in this case he gets neither.

Not only does a Saab FO make the same wage as the 146 pilot, but so does a Metro or Beech FO. The union said that that is an unfair comparison since we have no Beech's or Metro's. Funny though, 50 seat jet rates were very important to the union, even though we have none of them, nor plans to have them in the life of this contract.

I sent a resume to Scott Lindsey in Aug, 01 and was offered an interview and picked a date for late september. I received an interview packet that included a plane ticket. The day after 9/11 he called and asked for the interview packet back. Over the past few years I made several inquires to this board looking for updates on when they will begin interviewing again. I just read this post and was wondering if I still have a chance at an interview with Mesaba, and if someone could help me with a contact to call and find out. Now with 4300 tt with 1500+ pic turbine in Lears, I am more qualified for an FO position than I was back then and I am still interested in working with Mesaba. Thank you in advance for your help.

Are you really that interested in living in MSP, DTW, or MEM? With 1500+ turbine PIC, why are you looking at regionals? 121 Time? Sounds like you already have what most "regional" pilots are working to get...Turbine PIC.

Another highly intelligent post, most likely from somebody who thinks the world owes them an upgrade etc. Maybe mommy and daddy should have said no once in a while. Sorry if the current mess the airlines are in has slowed your career path, but welcome to reality.

XJ Captain

Are you one of those guys that upgraded after 2 years in the company, but now have the nerve to tell an FO that he's crying "entitlement, entitlement", when he's been sitting in the right seat for 4+ years with no end in sight?

Bottom line is this - our MEC never had any intention in striking or carrying thru with what they had been telling us for years about what they were going to get done with this contract. It was all show. Tom Wychor lacks the fortitude and clarity to lead this pilot group and should resign. Jane too !

T-handle, I tried to warn you but you wouldn't listen. Do a search of my posts over the last year and you'll see that I was saying the same thing that you and avrodriverj85 are saying now. You refused to pay attention. The Kool-Aid must have been pretty good. I hate to say I told you so but I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!! I predicted the MEC would cave in and sign whatever was put in front of them. I'm sorry that I was right.

mesaba2425,
You're right about the MEC pushing hard the first TA that was put out. The MEC kind of had to, though. The negotiators were their guys. It looks sort of tough for the MEC to talk down a TA that the negotiators worked hard to get. However, 66 percent of the pilot group thought that this was a good contract or at the very least, the best we could ever possibly achieve. I still believe that if you say you are going to do something (strike, not strike, mow the lawn, pick me up at the airport) you better do it or else noone will ever believe a word that comes out of your mouth.
