Mesa recalling 80 pilots starting in March

I would fly with any of them also, if they apply. As of right now, no one has applied that meets the 1500 hour mins. We only have less then 50 who want to come back from recall. That is why it is doom for Mesa for the staffing of these addtional 9 crj's, I am not talking about staffing at other regionals.

Hard to prove it as fact except Mesa of all regionals could not get it with our current contract, JO wanted a 5 percent paycut from the whole pilot group just to get the bid low enough, and the fact, our management told us skywest was bidding 100k per plane is where that came from. Hard not to believe when we needed all that just to get our bid low enough to compete with skywest. So I don't see how skywest didn't get it at a loss. For those of you claiming skywest does not bid at flying at a loss, then prove that!!!
 
So you guys are saying that in a blind RFP bidding process, Mesa somehow knew how much Skywest bid ahead of time and then decided not to bid? Does that sound remotely feasible to you? I call BS.
 
There was some chart posted a few years ago comparing Mesa's labor+management costs vs. SkyWest's. If I recall correctly, the overall cost was the same, but the difference was that Mesa's management took a much larger percentage of the pie, and SkyWest's front line labor took a bigger share on their side.

Yes it does happen. This is exactly how mainline management whipsaws the regionals submitting RFPs. They play the two lowest off each other. Happens everywhere in business.

Ok all you Chief Pilots out there you need to update your "electronic screens" to include helicopter time. Every Navy pilot goes through fixed training up to commercial mins and then some of us get to go back and instruct in fixed wing. I have filled out 10 online apps and they all strip my helo time even though I have my AMEL ATP...I have over 2400 hours but airlines like Mesa, Pinnacle, Skywest etc never see my total time and pass me over...someone needs to tell them a guy flying a helo in the wx, with three engines, four hydraulic systems, retract gear and flying the approach @115 kias to a postage stamp moving at night in the persian gulf is a little more challenging than Cessna 152 VFR to an 8000' runway...I'm not discounting the cessna time but stop discounting my heavy helo time...

That does seem ridiculous. But being passed over by Mesa and Pinnacle might actually be a good thing. I'm stuck at one those Turds currently.

Why didn't you say so? We all know that JO is ALWAYS completely truthful and honest, he'd never ever lie!:laugh:

Management. I apologize. Next time I will go get in in writing and get it notorized before I post. Why are you on message boards if you don't believe anything written? lol

Mesa lost flying to Skywest. That is pretty bad....Mesa is a dump and cheaply run. So if Skywest wins, prove to me they didn't bid it at a loss. Again, we lost the bid.

I don't believe JO and what he says, but if he wanted a 5 percent paycut from the whole pilot group just to bid low enough on 7 airplanes to keep them, that is sad. We rejected it, and then lost the bid to Skywest.

So that is a pretty good indication skywest bid it very very low and most likely at a loss just to get in with Airways.

Next question is if you can prove that skywest is making money on those planes. I doubt it. I haven't heard a single thing written proving that. I want a source...

The lowest bidder doesn't always win. Then again, if Mesa somehow never bid on this flying, then I guess that would, by default, make SkyWest the lowest bidder. :smash:

As for bidding at a loss, any management that would do so really doesn't deserve to be in business.

You forgot to include your source.

Bottom line is I am glad Mesa didn't keep those 50 seaters. They were doomed sooner or later. So skywest has that problem now. We have 9 more crj 900's.

And SkyWest is also getting nine more CRJ900s. What's that, 332 total aircraft now? And you may be surprised what they end up doing with those CRJ900s. Stay tuned.

And the deal with US Airways states that SkyWest can upgrade any or all of those CRJ200s for CRJ700s anytime, at SkyWest's discretion. If SkyWest was losing money on those 200s, don't you think they'd have found a way by now to swap all of those out with 700s? Continue your crusade for truth.
 
Did it occur to anybody that Maybe JO "said" Skywest bid it at a loss in order to put pressure on the pilots for concessions? You guys have already said he was looking for 5%.

By the way....do you know how to tell that management is lying to you???? Their mouths are moving!

Not sure where you got (or made up) your numbers. Here are the facts: 224 recalled, 14 (not enough hours) - 116 accepted immediate recall and training class. 35 are in class now, 38 scheduled to begin on 3/18. 29 on 4/1.

In addition, there are 18 on voluntary leave now. This compares to 80 needed for new flying, including 25 captain upgrades. Attrition has slowed to lless than 2-3 per month. There should be plenty of pilots at through the end of the year. Everyone on the property has 1,500 hours.
 
Here's my spin on the SkyWest flying. I think that they are indeed losing money on the new flying. They deliberately underbid it to keep the 200's flying that they have on contract. And please do not repeat the lie that the birds used in PHX were ones picked up to cover said flying. They are the same aircraft that you flew for AirTran before the merger.

I think what they are planning to do is at some point in the future to declare a sham bankruptcy and renegotiate the contracts on the CRJ200's. I would assume that the pilots will be required to take a haircut too. This way they will reduce their costs to match the new contracts.

P.S. For what it's worth, I was told the new 900's are going to CLT.

Lower deck of the slave ship, inboard oar position, no wind or view, but at least they will get to be on reserve at Messa.
 
I wonder how many of those that comeback are doing so long enough to get current and move on?
