I've been here a little over 3 years. They say the lines will improve, but I've been through two furloughs (not that I think I'm getting furloughed) and my experience is that management will always put the best spin on any ugly situation. So, although they claim the lines will improve, I'm not going to count on any extra income.
We are getting 400s and 767s. The 400s will begin arriving in 2007 and the 767s by 2009. But there are multiple unknowns: Will they hire directly into those fleets or transition people? Just because JALways is getting the 400s does not guarantee any of us will see it. They've even talked about direct-entry 767 captains (from outside the company), and you can imagine the revolt that would cause.
Until recently this has been a great place to work, but JAL is losing tons of cash and soon will go into severe cost-cutting mode, and JAL has no loyalty to me. I have the type rating and about 1700 hours in the whale, time that will be valuable elsewhere.
Like I said, if you're going to apply here, ask tons of questions. There's nothing really bad about the place, I'm just seeing the same pattern that I've experienced elsewhere, and I'm not optimistic.
