The new Subaru Legacy GT Spec B is powered by a 276-hp single twin-scroll turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-liter flat-four. No, it's not yet sold in America, but we hear it will be in 2005.

The GT Spec B receives a more aggressive front bumper than the standard Legacy and significant aerocladding underneath. Inside, a driver-oriented cockpit features a small, sporty airbag-equipped three-spoke MOMO steering wheel similar to the new WRX STi. Both 4AT and 5AT sport models are blessed with tiptronic-style upshift/downshift buttons on the steering wheel.

Inside, the tachometer and speedometer are equally emphasized, clear and informative with a subdued classy style. Seating is top-notch, managing to coddle you on long trips while giving you a measure of control while canyon carving. Hurtling the car around Fuji International, however, reveals the car exhibits higher limits than the side bolstering.

More info available at the MotorTrend website.

Match that one G5....TWIN-SCROLL TURBOCHARGER.
The 2005 Gulfstream Friendship G 7 Motorhome has only a single turbocharger on it's Cat 350 Diesel, but more than compensates for it with cubic inches and it's Dual Tone 6-Way Power Co-Pilot seat with Footrest.

Aaaahhhh sarcasm!! My favorite!!

......can't believe no one has taken a shot at the name yet! Legacy-inheritance................ Unless it's some Portugese word that translates to mean bird of prey or perhaps some sort of weapon (heck, even the Tomahawk had a cool name! ). And before you even go after my vintage transportation L.D.max......even Lear, translated literally, means short, fat, mad scientist that invented the eight track.....regardless, neophytes still associate the name with something fast. Personally, I think the name was intended in it's English translation(inheritance) and the Brazilians are laughing all the way to the bank. Inheritance......as in, just another low quality product shipped from south of the border under the NAFTA.

Fortunately, it does matter to the over 800 operators of GIV/GV type aircraft.

The Gulfstream cabin is four inches taller, five inches wider and between 2.5 feet and 7 feet longer than the Legacy cabin, depending on Gulfstream model.

For aesthetics, the average Gulfstream customer spends just over $6.5 million on their interior completion. What is the "green" cost of a Legacy?

The G550's 226 cubic foot baggage area is 5.8% smaller than the Legacy's 240 cu. ft and 13% larger than the baggage area on the Global Express XRS. The over 16 cubic feet of baggage allowance for each passenger on the GV is generous.

I also flew 15 passengers this week and althought I had to put one passenger in the crew rest area and the flight attendant on the jump seat, I had no difficulty accomodating their luggage and a box of three LRU's for the maintenance guys. But, my experience is empirical and thereby doesn't matter. What counts are the numbers as they are a constant and the Gulfstream's numbers are constantly better than the Legacy's in every aspect and regime of flight.

You know, customers can customize the interior of their aircraft to meet their needs. Most G550's have a forward crew rest area, a forward vacuum lav, a forward mini-galley for the crew, cabinets for world-wide Jepp storage and one or two closets for hanging garments. This space could be used differently, as could the space for the seven foot entertainment credenza and the four place dining area, but converting the jet into an airliner or a freighter isn't what Gulfstreams are about.

At one time, Gulfstream demonstrators were completed with a forward crew baggage area for the company issued Zero Haliburton aluminum suitcases. To my knowledge, no one has ever asked Gulfstream for a modified rear baggage area, but one of the Globals that Gulfstream brokered as a result of a trade-in had been completed with a larger baggage area. Instead of the straight Global's 1915 cu. ft cabin and 185 cu. ft. baggage area, this one had been set up with a 1775 cu. ft cabin and a 325 cu. ft. baggage area.

Ah yes, LegacyDriver gets yet another b!tch-slapping... But for some strange reason, I have a feeling he'll be coming back for more!

Who ever though a WSofD could be such a conversation piece!

Legacy.....if you don't understand how a large corp aircraft completion can top 6 million then you need to go back to the regionals. I have seen custom completed seats go for $100,000 each. Oh...wait a sec...I guess the EMB seats are interchangeable with the Subaru Legacy (U-R-A-BUS) seats.

$100K for a seat huh? Must be genuine Corinthian Leather (with apologies to Chyrsler and Ricardo Montalban).

I guess G is talking about the GV or G-750 or G-347 or whatever the hell the call those things. I am of course talking about the G-IV (or CE-402 or whatever it is called). Not enough size increase to notice for my money. But I'm 6'4" so I'd be crouching in a G-IV and throwing bags around in a tiny baggage area if I were so unlucky.......

LegacyDriver,

Just let it go. YOU LOST. Let it go already.

I'll put $20 down that LegacyDriver cannot restrain himself from making another post to this thread. There's no way his ego can let this thread just die.

Any takers?

If I had $20 to blow, then maybe. This section must be really slow if this thread keeps coming back.

And you base this on your VAST experience in the *Legacy* right?

The ignorance contained in your post is self-evident.
And your speaking from your "vast experience" in Gulfstreams and Falcons???

Puuullleeeeeaassseee!!!!!!!

WSofD!

No, I did not lose. You don't lose a discussion...

You just don't understand this end of the business. There is a lot more to a seat than the leather on it. There is a lot more to a completion than the seats, such as the "office in the sky" concept. But, if someone cannot afford the G and has to step down to the Legacy, they will probably go cheap on the interior or take whatever the Brazil gang decides to install.
I have seen Lear interiors go for more than half a million. Just plating on the wemacs for a cabin the size of the G can run 50 grand.

The interior on my boss' Legacy is nearly identical to the NJ G-IV I saw the other day, in fact, so I don't see what the criticism is all about. The interior on the Legacy has a few minor issues that their engineers will doubtless get ironed out in time. The interior on the first Legacy models was not very good, but the interior on the II looks like a copy of the G-IV. So if the Legacy interior sucks then the G-IV's must suck, too.

...sounds like the upbeat attitude Applewhite's boys had just after they were castrated!! I believe you have this discussion confused with some other one where you weren't pummeled brutally for weeks! I would say, go back and review the thread from the beginning but this post sums it up so well, why bother! Plus, I find it so dang funny, it's a shame to leave it buried back on page 11!

Let's tote up what you've accomplished so far, LegacyDriver:

1. Convinced virtually all of the corporate pilots on this board to write positive things about Gulfstream products.

2. Succeeded in having your own aircraft tagged with an unfortunate nickname it will never live down (WSCOD).

3. Convinced no one of anything positive regarding the Legacy, and in fact probably influenced some opinions negatively.

Good job! I think your work here is almost done!
I fall into group three BTW.
