It was not unnoticed (and commented on) by several passengers sitting in the food court next to the gate (and I can assure you, they weren't impressed by your devotion to current events). I've read dozens upon dozens of posts by regional pilots bemoaning the way they are perceived by both the traveling public and fellow aviators. No one else will respect you if you don't present a professional image. Also, I'm guessing if an FAA inspector had been passing by, he would have been less than impressed as well - but hey, maybe you really don't value the job that much.[/FONT]

Shut up, I hate people like you! was it a newspaper or a chart? No I don't work for Shuttle. You are trying to make a political point since it looks like you work for Delta and you are pissed because they are flying a plane that you wish you didn't give up in scope.
 
How does it even begin to look like he works for Delta other than the 757- and that's not coupled with the 767. Not a Deltoid.

I'd be pissed too if someone pulled into the gate with newspapers all over the glareshield. They look quite a bit different from charts.
 
I guess life is so good, the newspapers on the glareshield are worth all this attention.
 
Did they at least have a New York Times or was it all McPaper?

Although this is hard to believe but if this did happen I think the industry is now informed. Did SA crew taxi in that way, or did they try to block the sun out of the cockpit once the a/c was parked and unloaded. When you seen this did you MAN UP and walk to the gate to let the crew know how visable it was and ask them to remove it. Clearly its not that far from where you were seated.

I do not condone what you described and I'm sure the crew did not mean to offend anyone or appear to be unprofessional. Maybe you should of politely made them aware at the time you saw this instead of waiting to post this using the airline name and crew. at least then the crew knows of there actions. Chances are they may not look at this site.

Your actions, and how you handled the situation are just as if not more Unprofessional than the actions of that shuttle america crew.

I don't believe he mentioned who he worked for at all. But he did bring to light a very simple and sad truth.

There is a growing cadre of Regional Airline pilots who look, act and dress like they just left a keg party in college.

Sorry cool dudes and gals... Backpacks and Dr. Martins are hip when you're walking around campus... but not when you're a professional pilot at work.
 
When I saw the topic of this thread, I was thinking of someone wearing their pants down at their knees, or swearing in public or some other crazy action. I didn't think it would be some petty thing like this. Are you going to look at, and criticize what you see in the flight deck on every plane you see taxiing in from now on?

Here we have the professional pilot hanging her very large butt off the side of a chair waiting for her Saab to arrive. It was at this point that I began to get nervous that she might be my pilot.

FO Cheeseburger made two landings that day from Hilton Head to Atlanta. The first probably broke something and the second one slightly less violent.

I hate that I did not take a picture of her text messaging someone on her phone in the cockpit entrance as we got off the plane, but I was on the phone with my father in-law (AA 737-800 Captain) telling him how much I hated flying regional airlines.

When you bitch and moan about passengers paying $40 a ticket, don't get pissed when we (passengers) call you out for looking like slobs...

I can't tell you how happy I am to know that your father in-law is an AA 737-800 Captain. It was thoughtful of you to share that important bit of knowledge with us.

In fact I believe I over time more Mainliners have landed at the wrong fields than Rjs.....

I don't work for Shuttle America but one of the companies under the RAH umbrella. I too have noticed not only at our own airline but most across the board, many people that take no pride in the profession or themselves. I've recently been on a few trips where walking through the terminal, I've wanted to run away from my crewmembers because of the scenes that were demonstrated. I take comfort in the thought that our younger generations all act this way, no matter what profession they're in. All we can do is individually dress for success and act the part. This will contrast the people that don't and hopefully they'll get the hint, otherwise I'd just leave it up to the pilot management to feret them out on their own. Remember even if they dress sloppy, they're still our brothers and sisters.

It was a newspaper. I'm not an idiot, and I have yet to see a chart covered in black and white news print, with headlines, color photos, and divided up into different sections. Yeah, based on 40+ years of living and 20+ years of professional flying, I'm pretty sure I can differentiate between a newspaper and a chart.

I don't work for Delta, and if you'd bothered to research my posts I've castigated mainline groups idiotic scope clauses. Forgive me for caring about my profession and your job (note that I did not say our profession, as you obviously don't give a darn).

Good post Tristar. These clowns make us look bad, and they don't even know it.

The biggest problem with the EJET crowd at Republix is half of them think they are "mainline." After all they will be flying the E190 at Midex, and you will be able to buy a ticket on those flights through Delta North's website.

It goes both ways. Just like regional and major airline pilots have both landed at the wrong airport and on taxiways.
You're tired of the way regional pilots act? Quit agreeing to give away mainline flying to the regionals then.

Hummm......How many times have the majors landed at the wrong airport in south Florida? Delta did, as well as AA, Pan Am and Eastern. Didn't an AA pilot get in trouble with the FAA for making a cell phone call to his company about a fellow AA pilot that was taxiing to slow, while he himself was manipulating the controls?

What airline was it that landed at the wrong airport and had the pax lower their window shades???????? Oh shucks it was NWA!!!

So that leaves ASA with worst of everything that anybody cares about (on-time, etc)
and oh mesa sucks.

They taxied in that way. I wouldn't have cared it they had put them up after block in. I was in the middle of eating - I was not going to leave my bags and/or food unattended to go have the discussion with them (call me crazy). Do you take comfort in your veiled insult on me ("man up")? If I wanted to be a real a-hole, I could have easily posted the aircraft number, flight number, origination, and block in time. I chose not to do so as I do not want to see one crew singled out by management or the FAA. That misses the point.

Maybe not, but I really did not have the opportunity to do so at the time. I don't know how big the seniority list is at SA/Republic, but I know things got around pretty quickly at a 1000+ pilot carrier. Additionally, I want everyone (self included, major pilots included, ect.) to think seriously about the fact that how we present ourselves very much influences how we are perceived.

I'm actually a pretty laid back person, but this was so blatantly unprofessional and (I believe) unethical that I felt compelled to shout it from the rooftops as it were. Unethical??? Do a google on NW255 - that's really the kind of thing we're talking about here. You either decide to be a professional and act accordingly, or you are a menace.

Unprofessional? How about UNSAFE if they were REALLY taxing in with newspapers covering the windows. I doubt it happened, no one is THAT stupid.
I call BS. If you were that upset, you would have taken your bags with you. You would have posted a flight number, date, time and tail number. It's done several times on FI.com...when it REALLY happens.

If it were BS he would have made up a much funnier story... like "these toolbags had truck balls hanging from the mag compass" or "the FO had in his ipod headphones under his headset as they pulled in"
