02-05-07...LGA-MSP, Northwest, had to be 80 to 100 seats open. Two of us going home, Captain denied one of us because one of us didn't have an ALPA card. I am amazed this crap is still going on.

I think contacting your jumpseat coordinator is the way to go, not posting identifying information here!

I disagree. Post it here so we can all see what airlines are not allowing fellow pilots to jumpseat. I know it's "just a few rouge pilots", but someone needs to put their foot down and put a stop to this. By only contacting their jumpseat coordinator this behavior is not as widely known as it should be.

Yes, it is just a few rogue pilots, but when you contact your J/S coordinator, he will contact the other airline's J/S coordinator, and that person will hopefully pull some weight. They have commuters who might just need a ride on your airline someday. Not to mention a few furloughees who might need a job.

Posting here might be a good way to vent, but not a good way to get anything done to fix a problem. Contact your jumpseat coordinator.

Meanwhile, one denial does not constitute a trend. We've all been there.

Is it that you didn't have a card, or you aren't a member of ALPA?

What does that matter? If you work for Skywest or JetBlue (both non-ALPA) and your company has an agreement with another company, who cares about ALPA. I carried jumpseaters for 17 years, and NEVER asked to see an ALPA card (or medical). I have been asked for these on UAL.

It actually is a trend with NWA. I have been denied the jumpseat on 3 occasions in the last 2 years for the sole reason that I am a JB pilot. To quote the 9 captain "Im sorry, I don't take you guys" IB6 works here as well and I promise you that the reason is that he works for JB. This gets really old after a while. We have very few problems jumpseating on anyone except NWA. Yes, there are still a few flareups here and there but for the most part they are the biggest culprits in this. We have the most liberal jumpseat policy in the industry yet we get the most crap....really nice. I would never say that we should start a JS war as that does not accomplish anything but a letter to the JS committee is a good start. As for posting the info here....great idea as well.

Does JB have a written agreement with NWA? If so, this guy is way out of line. If not agreement, you dont have much to argue.

We (AirTran pilots) had 3 instances within a year, all on NWA. He was a MEM based DC9 CA.

Funny thing is, one of the pilots he denied a few months prior had a mechanical in MEM, and during the long wait, he decided to look up the NWA DC9 CP there and tell him about it.

That was the last time I heard of this happening on NWA.

Yes we have a written agreement with NWA. This was way out of line.

A handful at NW were always a bit more militant than others, and probably always will be. Every company has their 10%, although there it might be more like 15%...

I am not nor have I ever been an ALPA member. Does not "having an ALPA card" mean simply that or is there another reason one wouldn't have a card? (ie. line crosser etc.)

Gup
