So I'm thinking of taking an interview date with Jet Blue and wanted to know from JB pilots if you could shed some light on some things.

1. How many days off min guarantee per bid period for reserve pilot?
2. How many bid periods are there in a year?
3. Where do junior pilots get based
4. How long will a new pilot stay on reserve before holding a line
5. How many days off for line holders?
6. How much flying does a reserve pilot do in a month?
7. Is JB using long call?
8. How many days off do you get between trips/reserve days? 3- 4?
9. Basically how do you like working there and what is a typical
Bid period like for the new guy?
Thanks. Not sure where to take my talents to as Lebron says.

1.13
2.12--2 open bid periods for base changes
3.jfk, bos
4.A320-1year E190-4mo's-1yr (depending on your base)
5.14-17
6.40-85hrs
7.yes
8.2-6
9.Better than any regional
Your welcome.

My German Shepherd is...kinda well behaved.

I've been at JB for 5+ years. I enjoy it here and hope this is the only airline I ever work for. Don't let all the union talk scare ya. I'm voting yes; but that's because it's what I feel I need to do to try to protect my career as best I can.

I really don't want to turn this into a union thread, just saying that despite the upcoming vote, I think this is a good place to be. Best of luck.

I have to disagree slightly

1.13 12, 13 in 31day month
2.12--2 open bid periods for base changes
3.jfk, bos You may get FLL or LGB there is alot of motion right now but probably JFK or BOS
4.A320-1year E190-4mo's-1yr (HIGHLY depending on your base and A/C)
5.14-17 13-20 seniority dependant and what you can pull off with FLICA
6.40-85hrs This is also highly variable. on RSV I've gone 84days without a call and worked a full 18 day month only got 71hrs but that's just me
7.yes HAAA.... ah, coffee through the nose. yea, good luck with the LCR
8.2-6 could be 1 though could be 10
9.Better than any regional AGREE but the operable word is Regional
Your welcome.

Both my German Shephards are smarter than most honor students!

Just a couple of corrections:

1. 12 off on 30 day months, 13 off on 31 day months. After a couple months ur PTO will be active and u can PTO a day or two if u need more in a given month.

5. 12-20 day off for line holders. We use PBS and it really depends what you want and what you can hold. Do you want to fly min hrs (usually 80 ish) or max hrs (usually 90 ish). How much you chose to fly obviously is a big determiner of your total days off.
We had a very Sr Fo on the bus who only had 12 days off last month. A little further look at his schedule and you will see he bid nothing but unproductive AUA 2 day trips (25 hr layovers) all month.

I've been here 9 years and it only seems to get worse. The pairings are horrible, the medical sucks, disability sucks, disability on medical is awful, no scope, and no merger protection. I use to get at least 15 days off with commutable trips but now only 12 or 13. This place is a stepping stone and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Oh boy here come the union pushing crybabies. Maybe you should get your vagina looked at, I think it's infected.

Ignore this guy, he is one of the 2%. Even most of the pro union guys don't talk like this. They just want a CBA to try and improve our QOL. This guy wouldn't be happy under any circumstances. The other responses are correct for the most part. Been here 4 1/2 years and extremely happy. It is what you make of it.

It appears your profile would confirm the "better than a regional" comment.

If I were a betting man I would stake a large sum that you don't even know what you don't know. Please tell me where my asertions are wrong. Put the blue juice down and read for yourself. I know, I know ; we are better than Mesa right?

Our scope is better than Mesa.....oopsy it's not.

Our medical is better than Mesa.... Oops wrong answer.

Our merger protection is better than Mesa..woops wrong again.

Enjoy your travels in the Bluethisphere!

If you've been here 9 years and only get 12-13 days off you may need to re-evaluate your bidding strategy.

I agree, he sounds like a guy that'll complain about a free lunch..........and the PBS software has too many parameters......It's confusing him......
Good place to work, very happy.

My reserve sched next month consists of working Tues-Fri all month. The line was originally built with me working Thurs-Sun all month, but I traded it all around in Flica without much effort. 12 days off in the original schedule, but every JFK 320 FO on RSV received 2 PRL days which makes it 14 days off. PRL means their staffing was so fat that they give everyone a few extra days off. I find the reserve system to be pretty decent overall.

I just finished IOE a few weeks ago, so I am by no means a senior RSV pilot.

I too am enjoying the extra staffing as of late but keep in mind that the time of fat staffing are RARE!!!! Do not expect it to continue. They had to fatten up for the upgrades that have been delayed.

There is a union vote this month so it doesn't suprise me they gave PRL days. PRL started maybe 3 years ago? I've seen it given maybe 4 times.

Not sure how this is happening. Looking at the build up lines (forget the JB name for them), but both the 190 and 320 lines all had 14-17 days off. These are all the trips nobody wanted, so it can't be that bad. A lot of the 320 trips looked commutable on both ends and it seemed like half of the 190 trips were commutable of both ends and the other half were commutable on at least one end. This is in JFK, your base might be different.
Yes improvements must be made. No we don't have SW or Delta's benefit package (yet), but the company is also 11 years old. Go look what Delta and SW were giving for bennies after 11 years of business. ALPA or not, our QOL will improve.
Be as pro-alpa all ya want, but relax before you give yourself a heart attack.
