The sad part is that you are comparing your "legacy" to a regional. Very sad.
It is not about affording the move. I just don't see the reason or benifit. There is nothing stellar in your contract. The good thing about my stagnated career progression, is that I learned to diversify. My family life is second to none due to proper planning and if SkyWest goes out of business, it would be a mere speed bump for a month or two.
So what? The argument is regional vs Legacy. Even the most junior person at CAL is still lightyears ahead of the number one guy at any regional. The regional pilots entire career can be wiped out by the stroke of a bean counters pen. The moment you cost too much, the next regional steps in and replaces you. From 1987 till 1995 CAL captain made $70k a year with FO's making $35k.
From 1995 on CAL pilots have consistently made 25% to 40% less than other legacies.
Career earnings of a CAL pilot has been half that of a NWA, DAL, UAL, US Air, or SWA pilot.
You say so what?
CAL is flying 777s on a regional contract.
