I know its the worst kept secret in aviation. DHL made it official today.... ILN is officially a ghost town, the only thing missing is the tumbleweeds...

uhhhhhhh....no I did not enjoy it at all. I just wanted to get the info out there to the people might want to know. In fact, I think it is a very sad day. I will be saying goodbye to seven of my co-workers in about two weeks and to countless others that I have met that work in the sort.

Source? It's past the bed time of Wilmington's sad excuse for a newspaper...

EDIT: Wilmington's hack of a newspaper is up late tonight!

[FONT=ARIAL, SANS SERIF]DHL Express has decided to move its U.S. hub operations for its international business to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) in Kentucky.
The move is expected to be completed by mid- to late summer, according to a well-placed source who wished to remain anonymous late Thursday night. The announcement was made to DHL employees at the DHL Air Park Thursday night.
No announcement was made at the same time about which airline DHL will utilize as its air carrier at CVG, the source said.
People who will work as sorters at the CVG facility will be employed by DHL, said the source.
In late March, the Business Courier of Cincinnati reported the State of Kentucky had offered DHL nearly $2 million in tax incentives to relocate the company’s remaining operations out of Wilmington to CVG.
According to a project report released by the Kentucky Economic Development’s Finance Authority Board, relocation of DHL’s U.S.-based international express business would generate 187 full-time jobs and 646 part-time jobs, for a total of 833 positions in Kentucky.
Before DHL consolidated its primary U.S. hub operations at the expanded and upgraded Wilmington Air Park in fall 2005, it utilized CVG as its main sorting hub.

The only thing I can speak to is ABX flying, which will be slightly reduced(by just a few acft I think). I would assume you guys will still be needed.

Anyone know how the move will affect the feeders like Ameriflight?

I agree he is an a$$ I had to work with him. Best thing I could have done was get out of ABX Air. What a s***hole I am one that is also happy this is happening up there in ILN.

I worked there a short time. There are many kind, caring, hard working folks there that are out on the street after 30 years, through no fault of there own. Sort of sad you have to sling mud.

Classy, very classy.... You do not know anything about me. I do state my opinion on here sometimes and if you do not agree with it Tough $h!t. I do not believe that I ever resorted to name calling though. I never used the words sick f??? or a$$, even if it was what I was thinking. So keep showing your true colors, I am sure it will help you land that next pilot job.

Why? It's true. But thanks for your concern he is an a$$.

You do not even know what you are talking about. You worked what " 6 weeks" You could not hack it... Plain and simple.... I will make sure I pass this on to all the people I work with who will eventually land other aviation jobs here, there and everywhere. I will let them know of your enjoyment that there lives have experienced a significant setback. I am sure they will welcome you with open arms if you apply at a company they are at. And while you cannot be too sure who I am I know exactly who you are..

Enjoy unemployment....ABX thought that DHL could do no wrong but as you can see they just left ABX like the step child they were. Great time for DHL to let you go huh? When there are no jobs out there for dispatchers. Just think you can always throw boxes in CVG....And for the record worked there 3 months 15 days and 3 hours.

My true colors? You are the one who cannot wait to post bad news. And you are an A$$. Sorry I just call them as I see them. (seems like anyone who knows you agrees with me)

So using your logic, whoever would have posted that news first is a sick f@$k. For your information I was posting bad news about the company I work for. Why would I revel in something that is going to adversely affect my life? The only person here making an A$$ of themself is you. Take an anger management class dude!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I am not unemployed. You see I am actaully good at my job.. And you know what there are jobs out there for good dispatchers.

Disclaimer: So I am not attacked by all DHL related pilots out there I know that if you were furloughed, it was because of seniority.

Yea, my mistake you are a peach!

Moderators is right. Too many 14 year olds in this thread....and the one that was started in the dispatcher section as well...by abxdx...who apparently couldn't stand to keep this mud slinging in one place.

You really had to start a thread in another forum with no other purpose than to attack a poster here? Could you try to be any more unprofessional, or does that simply come naturally?

Hey guys. There's nothing to worry about. 1224 is going to Capital Hill to fix this thing. They'll have it all straightened out in no time. (completely dripping with sarcasm) They just can't understand why ABX management didn't come to them to make DHL stay in Wilmington. (more sarcasm)

I wonder how much money has 1224 has spent on lobbyists in the last year. How would that money look distributed among the furloughed pilots?

I have to admit, that was my thoughts as well. We have lobbied up plenty of moral support and one stern letter. None of it has been effective as far as I can see. I do appreciate the hard work and effort though.

Which fleets or planes will be used at the new CVG base? Which fleets were parked?

Bye Bye--General Lee

I think "fleets" is a bit optimistic, nor is CVG really a "new" base. DHL mothballed their existing facility at CVG when they decided to move to ILN after purchasing Airborne. Now they have decided to move back to CVG.

Astar has a handful of A300's & DC-8s still in service, and is currently flying a total of 10 aircraft for DHL.

ABX has 767-200's, some in the SF configuration, some not, and is currently flying 13 for DHL.

There is a smogasboard of other aircraft to include 2 Atlas/Polar 747-400s, 2 or 3 CCI 727s and number of smaller types. There is also service from Europe by a Lufthansa MD11 5 days a week I think.

How many were in service at peak, and what are the load factors on those that are still operating?

It's too bad Astar/ABX (or ABX/Astar) couldn't have locked-in to some of that international flying. It would have kept the company(s) on the property and maybe saved a couple-hundred jobs.

That is if DHL even wanted Astar/ABX to move any of this freight. What is really too bad is that DHL is so piss poor at running a business they ruined ABX in the process.

At peak I believe Astar had some 44 aircraft. ABX had 74 DC-9's and 30 767's along with a handful of DC-8's.

DHL apparently didn't want ABX to do any of the international flying other than a flight or two to Canada. Astar handles some runs to Mexico.
