I got a phone interview from an H.R. today. They asked me questions like the drunk captain, departure alternates, CRM training,

They told me they call back in 3 weeks to let me know if I get called in. My question is...is this a good sign of getting a call back?

i got a message from Joe Edwards today, saying he wanted to ask me some questions about my application. this wouldnt be who called you, i am wondering if i should expect a phone interview when i call him tomorrow. i am keeping my fingers crossed.

Joe E. was the guy that I did my phone interview with. He asked the same questions you mentioned... plus what should you squawk if you lose communication capabilities. I'm surprised they're still setting up interviews. Last week i heard there were 15-20 already in the pool, not including the 20-30 guys that interviewed last week.

good luck,

SR

Okay, so Joe E. is Dir. of Ops and is apparently conducting phone interviews. Now does anyone know what happens after the phone interview. Is there also a pool of people who have done phone interviews waiting to do the real thing face to face? Any news on possible classes, they seem to be hiring a lot of poolies.

Joe Edwards

He was the same guy that called me, and he also asked me the comm failure question. They said I can expect a call in 3 weeks to see what the next step will be. Did they tell anyone else that?

Wow

I got ahold of Joe E. today and got the same questions. Comm. failure, dep. alternates, what would you bring to I.A., how would your current supervisor describe you. Then he said HR would call in 3 weeks to continue the process. So now what is the big question? Anyone have a clue as to whats going on?

I got the call two Mondays ago (During the football game) and Joe said expect a call 2-3 weeks for a interview date. Still waiting...

Looks like they're ramping up the process but still have many in the pool and future uncertain with Aloha and Hawaiian.

I'd still love to swing that Dash-8 inter-island...

I spoke with Niki Kamahele today, she is the head of HR at Island Air. She said that there are about 15-20 in the pool not counting the guys that were selected in August. I interviewed in August and just received confirmation that I am in the pool. Hope it doesnt take that long for you guys. My suspicion is that they want to build their pool to about 50 pilots and my bet is that there will be a class scheduled sometime in the 1st quater of 2003. Of course this all depends on the situation at Aloha and Hawaiian.

Hawaiian just announced furloughs again, so don't look for people leaving for Hawaiian anytime soon.

However, Aloha is still hiring and there will be more people leaving IA for Aloha.... hopefully soon.... :D

RE: the orginal question.

The process basically goes like this.
You send your stuff in. If they are interested in
you, Joe E. calls and asks some Q's.
He says "you should hear from HR in 2-3 weeks"
You get an e-mail or call from HR offering you
an interview. They give you a choice of when you
want to do it. (They usually alternate months between
HNL and ATL) you provide your own transportation and
hotel for the interview.
You interview.
You wait to find out if you have been selected for the pool.
You get a call offering a class. (there is no order to the pool, they select people they need at the time. ie if they are short on CAs they will take the high time guys out of the pool first)
You go to ground school. (again you provide transpo to HNL)
You pass your checkride.
You sit on reserve in paradise.
You are furloughed, go back to start. (just kidding)

Thanks

Thanks for info on how the process works. Does anyone know if they use a sim. for the interview in HNL? I know they were sometimes using one in ATL, but I was curious as to HNL. (ie. what type of sim., anywhere to practice)

I interviewed in HNL the end of June and didn't get a sim. But you never know when that trend might change.

Have any of you guys (Rogue5, whereamI, wowjack, skyride56) heard anything new from IA?

Have any of you received interview(face to face) offers yet? If so, when and where?

I've been in the pool since June and am continually trying to get an idea of how things are progressing with regards to interviews, future classes, expansion, etc. Any new info anyone could pass along would be great. Thanks.

Nothing new

I did the face-to-face interview in atlanta 4 weeks ago. Haven't heard a thing from IA since. Was told to expect something in 3-4 weeks so, i'm not going to hold my breath. I think it took around 10 weeks for the last group of interviewees to get the word. I'm going to send an email to niki later this week.

No love from Island Air

Nope, none at all... Joe E told me 2 - 3 weeks from the phone interview: it has now been 5.

Keep following up on your other options. As my boss told me "Get all the job offers you can then you can decide when they give you class dates..."

I have not heard anything yet either. Of course you must remember they are running on island time, so 2-3 weeks actually means 2-3 months. I will wait patiently and see what happens!

You guys may be waiting for awhile.
They still have not sent letters from the Aug
interview group.
All we heard was, "Sorry, we are still behind in sending
out the letters."

Anyone know if Aloha is still interviewing?

I suspect AQ hiring has stopped for awhile. The AQ-HAL cooperation leaves too many pilots on both sides. In a classy move, AQ has decided to carry extra pilots rather than furlough. Preferential bidding for bases coupled with a decrease in inter-island lines has caused a minor shuffle in the ranks. Some flying mainland routes have been displaced back to the -200 by more senior pilots wanting better lines. Those displaced will return to the -700 base as a/c and routes are added. Meanwhile, -200 base is overstaffed with nearly 100% reserve coverage. Hear their is also a small pool awaiting a class. Whether it gets a class, stays in tact, or is purged remains to be seen. But once again, my personal opinion is that hiring has stopped for awhile.

Well hiring may have stopped for now, but I heard they are getting 11 new airplanes next year. They will have to start up again if that happens.

Hiring

Anyone know what percentage of new hires at Aloha come from Island Air. (ie. what kind of attrition might they see) Hopefully some of you guys drowning in the pool at I.A. might get a class date soon!!!

Don't know that percentage, but I have heard that basically anyone from IA that is interested in Aloha, will get an interview
sooner or later. And in the last year they hired 20 out 22 that interviewed. We just need them to start hiring.

Hog - Where did you hear the eleven planes thing? Find it hard to believe we could more than double our fleet in a single year, but would be great if it were true. Gate space in HNL, available destinations, and establishing service at those destinations all work against such a rapid expansion.

Well I heard it from several people that say they have friends at Aloha. There is some info on the "majors" board.
One guy said they got a new plane this week with 2 more coming soon. I heard the plan is to increase mainland routes.
