Best guess...

I would venture to say that so long as UPS is hiring, Gemini will have to hire.

Keep updating w/ GAC, they don't always post vacancies and do appreciate continued/consistent interest.

Fogrunner might be able to say more...

Gemini is hiring, mostly to replace the pilots who are leaving for Fedex, UPS, JetBlue, SWA, CAL, Airtran, etc. Heck, they've had guys leave class before their checkride!
They are parking some DC-10's and will probably be down to 4 DC-10's and 4 MD-11's by the end of the year. Rumors say hiring will continue through the rest of the year.
If you want to be a Freight Dog, jump on in. Just don't forget that the above mentioned places are also hiring.
You might be a Freight Dog if:
You feel that breakfast is the most important beer of the day!

i thought that they require a two year contract is that still going on and is that after your checkride.

Hi!

If U were a real freight dog, you wouldn't be UP for breakfast.

It is much too bright at that time of the day. That big shiny yellow thing up in the sky will burn out your eyes.

If you HAVE to be up that time of the day, stay indoors with all your curtains closed, or, better yet, just stay in your coffin 'til it's dark. It's much safer.

Actually in long haul freight, sometimes you takeoff during the day, watch the sunset, fly all night, and watch the sunrise in the morning.

And chase the setting sun going the other way!
We don't haul bank checks from Houston to Dallas at Gemini. Anything less than 8 hours is a short trip or one to a refueling stop.
Gemini is also an ALPA shop. No training contracts.
50 bucks a day while in training, 45 an hour with a 65 guarauntee after that. (35k first year pay)

Having at times been on five continents in a week or two, breakfast is a relative concept.

Yes, they're still hiring. I guess I should say "we" now, cause I started Indoc here last week. DO told me they just held interviews for the next class. Yeah, bodies on the list below me! He also repeated what fedora said that we're planning to continue hiring thru the end of the year. About 1 class of 6 per month. That's the plan anyway.

Did he say anything about a replacement for the 10's? Also, is there that many guys leaving that they need to hire that much?

Are all newhires going to the MD11?

Probably already covered, but how many days off per month for a newhire would be likely? Also, would anyone care to list a few of the MD11 destinations? I imagine you would see a lot of the world.......

They are hiring for the MD-11. Days off are 16 days on and 14 off. On the MD-11 you will see schuduled flying in EU,Africa and India. Have fun

That schedule is the reason I won't be applying. How can you even contemplate having a family life? 16 days is waaaaay too long. Sure, I know that Atlas has longer trips - something like 21-25 days in a row. I note that UPS doesn't have super long trips like that but it can be impossible to get on with UPS - that's the catch.

A guy in my class at GAC got back-to-back 18 day trips right out of IOE - 36 days in a row in Africa.

When he got home his wife met him at the door and said Me or The Job. He resigned that day.

and you get what now..??possibly 11-12 FULL days off, withstanding your commute-crashpad-hotel factored in...that 16 has the first/last day commercialing to a/c, working 14 in one shot usually factors into maybe 10-12 legs ...you're probably doing that in 1.5 days now...to each his own...

Fedora, 35k was first year pay on the old scale. I thought that pay was severely cut during our famous contract negotiations. I know my pay freeze is still continuing (: And I even voted No

Is it possible to make more than guarantee on the MD-11 at Gemini? When you go out, are your trips all international or do you go back and forth thru the US a few times? Thanks for any info

My latest contract shows 45 an hour first year FO pay, which should be about 35K. (45X65X12).
Year 2 bumps to 64.34 an hour. (about 50K)

Beating guarantee depends on the contracts, and right now 2 lines show better than 65. (99)
They went senior. As a new hire right now you might get some O/T for working on days off.
If you want 4 on and three off, don't apply here.
If you think every other leg gets you back to the Big Island and you'll jumpseat home, don't apply here.
I worked back to back Jan/Feb for 30 days, but after that I was off for 31. Try that at a regional.
BTW Rod, how much of the world are you getting to see flying four to six legs a day?
International freight isn't for everyone.

Yes, MA is still CP.

You must like to commute.

Is the Chief Pilot still MA?

He is... He helped me get a bud of mine an interview last week.. he's still waiting to hear back.

Yes. What I have told people for years is expect to make nothing more than the 65 hour guarantee then you will not be disappointed. If you make more than that is great.

The majority of the trips on the 11 are outside the contiguous 48. The a/c do flow through JFK. The Milan sector to and from New York runs about once a week. Sometimes the JFK a/c will go to IAH or ORD. I believe we will have an 11 doing MIA South America and Europe here shortly. There is also an a/c that comes out of AMS to JFK about once a week.

It depends on the individual and your family circumstances. My family life is great. The family across the street from me sadly is going through a divorce. He was home every night. So to imply that you have no family life is a tad naive. There are far more factors that go into a successful family/marriage than being gone for 17 days. I use to work at a place where the schedule was 8 days on 7 days off. In 2005 at Gemini I had a week more at home than I did
on the 8 and 7. I have turned 14 days of vacation into 38 days in a row.
Granted 17 days is a long time to be gone and as others have said this type of work is not for everyone, it is a personal choice.
Something else to consider is Gemini and other ACMIs are excellent places to gain "heavy international" experience especially in light of the new UPS requirements.

Do they prefer a paper resume or an emailed one?

I would email, fax and conventional mail. Update is the key. We are going to need an additional 60-70 bodies to crew the 11 on the current contracts. Expect to see classes until the end of the year.

Also, is there that many guys leaving that they need to hire that much?

Two fold. We have had quite a few jr MD11 f/os leave for UPS ( I wish them well). The MD11 contracts are very crew intensive. I airlined 50+ hours last rotation. I know of one guy who has over 60 hours of comercial for his rotation.

Hey Capt Fedora. I am just waiting for MAA to pop up in my travel. Aug, Sept, Dec, Jan, Feb, March and April so far.
