How is avant air?

How does one become competitive for Avantair? In essence, I'm asking how did some of you get there? I'm looking at being a CFI to build time then working for Alpha Flying to gain fractional experience. Only problem with Alpha Flying is the lack of ME time. I was going to ME CFI to get the time on the side. Will that be sufficient or will I need to stop at the regional for a year or two?

My background: currently USAF, have a commercial SE,4 year degree, no black marks on the record at all.

Why do you bring up Commercial SE? That won't help here. I think you were saying your going to try to get ME time as a CFI and assume you already have your ME CFI. That would indicate you already have a Commercial ME, which would help a ton more at Avantair.

Your post indicated you have a Commercial ME right up until you said you have a Comm SE. If you have the Comm ME then why state the SE, and if you don't then how ya gonna teach ME?

IF you do have the Comm ME and the hours for ATP then please do send an app. I really like prior military and look forward to seeing you on line.

Why is that airplane so damn loud? I was eating lunch at an outdoor restaurant the other day and I heard what sounded like and airplane losing power. I looked over my shoulder and sure enough, it was a Piagio 180!!! How is the noise level inside the cabin?

The P180 is quieter inside than just about any very light, light or even mid sized jet. Outside, not so much. Sounds like an angry bandsaw on roids. Due primarily to the 5 blades turning at 2000rpm with the exhaust blowing right into them. All you need for a headset is a telex 750. Sometimes we don't even use them.

Our low cabin noise level comes from a combination of accoustic insulation in the fuselage and the rearward-facing props, which direct most of the noise aft of the tail. Those props spin at 2000 RPM for climb and 1800 RPM for cruise... Thus, the distinctive sound.

As far as the cockpit noise, the really isn't any. A little wind noise and a subtle hum from the props. Lightweight Telex headsets are Avantair standard issue and work great.

The regionals and the fractional industry have very little in common. For me, the 7-on/7-off schedule is a big plus. I'm also happy to be back in a turboprop. Morale at the company is great. Variety of destinations is another bonus. I might see both coasts in a week, or possibly see the Caribbean and Maine in the same week. Really good stuff...

I just submitted an application, I have 2000 hours, with 1000hrs SIC turbine at a regional. Would that be somewhat competitve?

I live about 10mins from Caldwell, NJ (CDW), and 20 from EWR. What are the odds of getting either of them as a base? Also, do you ever end up at your base for a night during your 7-days on? Or are you gone for the entire 7days?

Avantiar seems like a pretty nice place to work, especially since the airline biz is goin down the drains.

That sounds a lot better than the ultra/encore which is one of the NOISIEST JETS civilian jets I've been in. It's terrible. The company should issue Bose headsets with those aircraft.

Thanks for the info, that sounds pretty positive. I guess the 7on schedule just takes some getting used too. I am 22 and single so being home for that long probably wont be so bad.

Any idea on how long it usually takes to hear back for an interview? As far as the flying goes do you pretty much see all of the country? Or pretty much stuck flying along the east coast?
