Do you actually work here? Avantair is one word, and I never hear anyone that works here call us "Avant". Anyway, it's only a pet peeve of mine and I'm not making our entire pilot group look like tools.

I know better than to discuss an issue like this over an open forum, which in my opinion makes us look unprofessional. I'm done with this subject.

Have to agree with AftCG here. It's one word. I've never heard anyone call it Avant except on this thread.

It's not a big issue, but "Avant" sounds bad. Avantair is the name.

I just think it is funny how you believe that as a 7 month Avantair employee they are going to spill the beans to you. Most FLOPS and Travel Air guys had about 5-6 years more at their company than you and we were told exactly what the PR release was. Nope-no truth to that rumor. Then one day it was-Surprise! The rumors are true!
Unless you are in your 7th month as CEO, CFO,COO then you have no clue and will have to accept what the "Mothership" feeds you.

Voted for Gore back in the day. I am an Independant voter, and veteran, who loves America and will vote in whatever way I believe will benefit this country the most. I am in no way responsible for the mess that this country is in.

Also, I enjoy is working for a company where I happily trust what I am told, and the pilots don't huddle in small groups trying to decide how the company will screw them next. It's very nice here at Avantair.

Well back to the original question. Avantair is a great place to work. The pay isn't up there with big money companies. Its a small company with 6 million dollar airplanes. Not a huge company with 20 million dollar airplanes.

I enjoyed my time there. Lots of really good guys there, and in my opinion the pilot management group is doing the best with what they have.

How do you get your domicile? Do they put you where they need you or do you choose? Do you have to live a certain distance from domicile? What are the schedules?

1. You choose from what's available at the time. They usually don't hire into Florida, but you can always ask.
2. Two hours.
3. Week on, week off. You bid for start dates, they try to accommadate.

I just got here, but I like it so far.

becoming competitive for Avantair

How does one become competitive for Avantair? In essence, I'm asking how did some of you get there? I'm looking at being a CFI to build time then working for Alpha Flying to gain fractional experience. Only problem with Alpha Flying is the lack of ME time. I was going to ME CFI to get the time on the side. Will that be sufficient or will I need to stop at the regional for a year or two?

My background: currently USAF, have a commercial SE,4 year degree, no black marks on the record at all.

We've been hiring a lot of Alpha guys lately, and my experience doing IOE with them has been great! Good skills, both flying and CS related, and their lack of multi hasn't seemed to be a real hardship for any of them. And, real nice folks to fly with!
