Yeah the company wants to do the RFO only thing on the MD-11 for new hires, as well as over 60 guys, maybe. But they have to get it past ALPA so good luck on THAT one.

I've heard a lot of "big bid" rumors on the crew bus...I've also heard a lot of "2 year seat-lock" rumors as well. Last I heard was (two rumors) 250 widebody CA and 100 A300 + 60 MD11. I've heard 1200+ new hires this year, and I've heard no new hires until the training pipeline can get straightened out.
I believe the bottom line is, listen to the phone call from KD. Don't listen to anything else. Guys on the line don't have much advance notice as to what's going down...
 
Leroy, you hit the nail on the head...wait to hear it directly from the company before we believe it.

KD has been making lots of phone calls lately, everybody that I know who has been waiting(a few folks) got the call within the last 2 weeks or so...I'm guessing that the increased hiring rumor is close to being true...

I talkked to both KD and one of the ACP's Admin assistants this week...70 newhires a month starting in Feb...hiring into right seat of MD is coming... 2 year seat lock for 727 SO with passover pay...TIFWIW...

I tried to walk in a resume today, and the ACP wouldn't accept it. Told I have to wait until at least Feb and maybe Mar before they open up the meet and greet process. Apparently that is one heck of a backlog they have going on in there.

Like all of us I wanted the uniform, to fly a cool jet as quick as possible, to feel equal to my friends, have hot chicks look at you during boarding while you flip switches and look cool, and all that other stuff

Unless I'm misinformed (which, of course, is impossible) there is currently no pool. Class dates are being proferred with the good post-interview call. They've had trouble in the past year getting some classes filled apparently. Not due to lack of interested applicants but, rather, slow throughput in the interview/background check process.

First of all I am one of those gay pilots. I fly an A320 in command and I never had a problem with being openly gay. It didn't matter to anyone in any of my previous companies, except for the fact that noone ever talks about which girl they want to fark during the layover or what was on the porn channel in the hotel. Times have changed (at least in western Europe).

And now I would like to comment on gay behaviour. I don't care how my fellow gay or straight fellow citizen act and I demand the same respect from everyone. When I am in charge of the Airplane I do not hesitate to force my First Officer to appologize if he (for example) raised his voice against a F/A, ramp agent, refueller, loader or whoever, because EVERYONE deserves respectful treatment (at the end of the day we are professionals).

I do hate soccer, love sex and the city, cry at moulin rouge but dress like anybody else and I like to be a guy. I do not act very femalish but love drag shows if I am dragged to one. The parades are just another form of expressing a lifestyle. I admit they are very outgoing sometimes but I was there when I was younger too. But not only gay ones, I was at the love parade (3 times and not gay), the union move (not gay) and several CSD's (well - very gay). If you are a straight teenager you can put on extrem make up (as girl) or find satisfaction in sports and so on. What choices did I have when I was in highschool??? Open gay with 16 falling in love with a class mate when I am not sure what I am!!! Anyone saw the movie "boys don't cry"? I would have been beaten to death in some areas of the world.

These parades represent the first opportunity to be what you are for many people. It gives you a feeling of not being the only one and here in Europe they ARE welcome and they have info boots and so on. I ask for some respect towards it cause it helped my family, my friends and it will help millions of sexually conused people for many more generations to come. Bottom line is that these parades brought gay life out of the closet into the real world and look what happend. We can get married and have the same rights and duties like any other couple. Thats what I call progress. And yes I am happy to be gay, because I enjoy my life. And I am also proud and happy to be in command of an A320. But none of both has anything to do with each other. I was born gay but becoming captain was achived through years of training, lots of bullshit and many sim sessions, so I deserve to be looked at as a professional pilot and NOT be judged by who I share my life with.

#1 The way the rules are today once one reaches age 60 one cannot serve as a pilot in FAR 121 operations. They can be a F/E on either the DC10 or B727. Not a RFO on the MD11

#2 ALPA has no say if they decide to make the RFO a seperate position. They would be S/Os, just like Cathay or any other international airline operates. The contract already has Wide Body S/O rates so it is not even a contract issue. My guess is that ALPA could grieve it, and lose. They are more interested in getting the first ALPA contract at FedEx.:(

No, I think the company will hire into the right seat as F/Os. These individuals will do just great. It will be a good deal for them, and a good deal for FedEx. Looking forward to seeing them on the line.:)

That is why he put his little smart @ss :( face by the "first ALPA contract" remark.

He's just one of 125 free loading cheap jerks..............that's a FACT.

Hey CaptainMark it was the FPA that got the B-Fund not ALPA. :)

Last time I checked, the FPA is no longer the union at FedEx. Are you still paying dues to the FPA?

Must stink always having to look over your shoulder knowing everyone in the A.O.C. knows you're a non-member. It reminds me of Mike Mullins and how everyone looks at him........

No Bill, never a problem.:) You would be suprised how many people say thank you for giving the issues balance. :) You know that even ALPA members are taken to task unless they spout the "Party Line".:(

The plans for MD11 training are available in the pilot web site Training/Standards, MD11/10, Standards Menu, Comm Updates. There is also a great deal of good information in the Comm Archives.

also,

The MD10/11 replaces the DC10 on MEM-VCP-MEM starting with the March bid month.
 
If they do have a two year seat lock, that doesn't mean there won't be bids in over the next two years does it? It just means you won't move, but you will get paid for the next seat until the two years is up. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

As a side note, I heard a rumor that the two year seat lock was just for lateral moves. Widebody F/O to another widebody F/O. Just another rumor.
