Wednesday for me...

Got the call yesterday afternoon for a Wednesday the 11th interview. I take it, it would be a good thing to get one with them at the BEGINNING of the hiring boom? Can you commute your first year? I just signed a lease and could get out of it, but it would suck, besides, I'm a midwest country boy, living in Newark scares me!

the email

th email came to me yesterday(same day they called). No overnight for me either. when is the first interview? the 9th? anyone have an interview before the 9th?

guys on the 9th, it would be nice to hustle and get a posting on aviationinterviews for us behind ya.

Sameday flights for me too on the 11th, Although i dont think im gonna go. I was offered a job flying the emb-110 for airnow. I have 3500tt and 1500multi so i think it would be a step back if i went and got stuck in the right seat for the 4+ yrs for upgrade. atleast now i can start looking for a good paying corporate gig once i get the 500pic turbine.

Got the call!
Interview on the 10th
I was just looking over the email

Dose anyone else think its weird that they did not list flight logs OR college transcripts in the “bring to interview” section?

Especially since the last interviews "weeded" out alot of candidates with the flight time section of the application. There was a break down of flight time per aircraft type into PIC, Dual given, Dual Recv'd, etc. I understand that the people who didnt finish it - didnt get hired....

Does anyone know if they are doing this again? or was this a "dresser-deal"?

Is there any info in the email about interview content? i.e. what to study?

Dear Future ExpressJet employees:

The company wants to see if you can follow directions (from your supervisors. ie Chief Pilot, Captain)humbly, without ego, backtalk or attitude while being ok to hang out with on a 3-4 day trip.

If they tell you to dot an "i", then dot it and then smile.

If they ask you a question, don't lie.

If you don't know the answer to a question, be honest and tell them. But you should also know where to find the answer.

Be sure and look up and to the left when you are thinking of an answer so as not to be construed as a liar.

Never mention anyone's name, past or present in a negative light.

If they ask you "Is that what so and so would say if we called them right now?" - you should answer "I I CAN'T SPEAK FOR THEM, HOWEVER.. I feel that they would agree with my assesment/story/idea, etc...."

Turn every negative situation/story that you plan on using in your interview into a postive outcome. If you don't finish a story, they will finish it for you in their own minds and the outcome will be negative.

Every story that you tell should be clear, concise and have a beginning, middle, and end (positive for all involved).

Remember, you are interviewing for a pilot position. tell them that you want to do nothing but fly 1000 hours per year and upgrade ASAP - even if it means sitting reserve in Siberia for 6 months. No offline type office stuff, no commuting questions, no vacation or sick policy questions- all of those kinds of things WILL be covered during your training.... AFTER you get hired!

Good luck to everyone, it should be a fun experience.

Looking forward to flying with all of you.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

What Ben said.

To the guy/gal considering not attending the interview in order to go fly the Banderainte for AirNow: I don't know you, your situation, or that company, and it's obviously just one guy's opinion, but that doesn't sound like a good idea to me. The results of our latest System Bid were posted last evening, and members of the 4/17/00 class will be Captains shortly after their four year anniversary . . . and it should continue to drop. If it's money, consider this: you will most likely see 2nd year FO rates top $40/hr ($40k/yr) on our new contract, which should be finished long before your first year is over. The safety and comfort of a jet and the relative luxury of an FAR 121 schedule shouldn't go without consideration, either. Finally, it's not even your decision to make unless and until you're offered the job. Again, just my opinion.

Good posts above. It is 90% personality. The people want to make sure they can stand you for a four day trip. Any, and I mean ANY attitude, cockiness egos will be shown the door. ( I hate competition). Also riddle grads.........no one cares get over it.

OK, for those of you with Feb. 9th interviews, please post the interview process as soon as possible for those of us with 10th and 11th interviews. PM me and I'll pick up your beer tab on an overnight oneday.
Thanks

I got no beef with anybody from Riddle, I'm friends with a few, but this is priceless:

Best of luck to everybody on your interviews!

And to current XJT pilots, what is the status of your contract negotiaions?

Just curious...

Someone mentioned 2nd year pay will be around $40/HR under the new contract. What is 1st year FO pay now....and will that change under the new contract? Just wanna see if the family can scrape by the first year. Thanks

Brad, that was me with the $40/hr. That is, of course, just a guess . . . negotiations are ongoing (more on that later). Current first year FO pay is $19.56/hr with a 75 hr/mo guarantee. Add it all up, take out taxes, don't spend all of your whopping $1.40/hr in per diem, and you'll clear about $1300/mo. Under our current contract, 2nd yr FO pays $27.74. You'll have 11 days off each month to work your other job(s), like I do on 4th yr FO pay.

As for negotiations . . . they were going well through the end of the year, now the management negotiating committee has, apparently, begun dragging their feet. Thus, we are picketing all three hubs tomorrow. We all have high expectations, and even higher hopes, for the outcome. Several sections of the contract are already completed, but the real 'cornerstones' remain . . . compensation, scheduling, etc. There will be significant gains in many areas. There will be very significant gains in the compensation section, I just hope we don't have to strike to make it happen . . . but we will if necessary.

Express Jet did receive two phone numbers from me and wondered if the intial call only goes to the answering machine, do they attempt on the second number? I am flying quite a bit and terefore can't hang around next to my home phone all day long. I was told that I could expect a call within 90 days after my phone interview and was just wandering about their intensity level in trying to contact an individual?

BTW: I am new to this forum and enjoy all the information one can gather here.

Thanks,
JvW

JvW...

Dawn left a message on my phone to give her a call back to set up an interview, so i assume they would do that for everyone.
