Is the 4000 hour total time requirement a hard number? I'm at about 3850 total hours. Most of which is Part 121 flying. I have about 2000 hours of E170 time (not sure if that counts for anything). Another furloughed NJA guy here. Should have taken that Allegiant job I was offered back in 2007. Story of my career!

Have you submit your application with Qatar Airways...Your chances are better with them than EK. Please understand that I am not saying EK will not call but while your waitting you should have application with others also. My friend with over 8000 hours and 3000 hours Jet PIC and 1900 hours on B747 was shortlisted 6 month ago and hasn't heard back from them so he interviewed with Qatar and was hired on B777. Good luck and dont give up.

Yep, already interviewed with them. The flew me all the way to Doha, I passed the written, only to have them tell me in the interview that it has been too long since I had flown (7 months at that point) and they could not offer me a position. But I am back flying again as of today, so hopefully that currency issue will be no more.

Well they must be desperate; I just received my 2nd email regarding their need for FO's, in as many days.

Perhaps they shouldn't have flushed the 50 guys they had in the pool last year.

I interviewed with Emirates two years ago. 6 of 14 got hired. I was not one of them, but I lacked the jet time. They were kind enough to interview me anyway. I just got an email yesterday from them as well needing FO's. I have kept my info updated over that time and still would like to try again. I need to call my friend that's there instead of just emails. Get a good update on his time lately. Good luck to those who are still wanting this.

4 years ago I went through the process, got up to where they wanted to interview me. This is when you had to pay your own way over to the interview. Being cash strapped (what regional guy isn't), I said thanks but no thanks at this time.

Well, I got the same email asking me to consider them. When I logged back into my application, there was a note from them (dated in '06) politely telling me that since I did not interview, my application was withdrawn and don't even bother re-applying EVER. I updated the info and sent it in.

I don't know what to think, when they are canvassing from applicants from 4 years ago.

From a mate of mine in Mgt at EK, it's 6 months since you last operated an A/C. Up until now they've been pretty steadfast in sticking to that.

I wasn't offered an interview at EK because my BMI was 1.2 over their limit and I needed another PC (i was furloughed). This was in September of '09. I can't say for sure, but I am willing to bet they still have those requirements.
I haven't updated my app since.

A BMI of 30 and bellow is pretty much a standard used by most of the foreign carriers, cholesterol under 200 also

I'm in the process of applying. I have a BMI of 31 but I have been a gym rat for the last 15 years. I am not fat by any means. Does anyone think this will be a problem?

I did overestimate my height and reduced my weight on the app.

I was in the same boat your in a while back, my recommendation is don't overestimate anything!

I played football in college, and have a large build. Drink plenty of water, drop your sodium intake, and cut down on the soda-pop, coffee, and red meat. I've got no doubt that you can drop below the 30 BMI within thirty days with a regular work out while doing all the above...

I already do all of that including working out twice a day, weights then cargo. With body fat of about 8% I am not fat by any means. This just shows that bmi is a very inaccurate measurment.

On paper, I appear to be more out of shape than a 200 pound peice of lard that I see shoving their pie hole with everything in sight.

BMI is a farce...

It was NEVER designed to be used on an individual basis, but rather as a tool for measuring obesity rates of a specific demographic or large population.

Unfortunately, someone neglected to mention it to the other countries that seem to like using it, as well as mentioning that some of us really LIKE to work out. At 5' 11" and 175 pounds I'm "borderline" on BMI, but also sit between 8% and 9% body fat, as I'm also in the gym 5-6 days a week.

Just means, prior to interview, I'll have to cut down to cardio only for a MONTH, then bulk back up after they've hired me and put me through training. They want to throw away a $250,000 investment because I like to work out? Knock yourself out...
