How about you raise first year pay to ohhh say, 30-35k to start? I bet you could fill up some newhire classes easily. If you're not going to offer any hope of an upgrade this decade, you have to offer something ($$$).

That would be nice. Sadly, they will just keep lowering mins. In a few cases they've hired right above the Commercial pilot mins lately so they are starting to hit a hard bottom requirement. They will also continue reassigning and junior manning to cover shortages. We have had numerous occurences lately of Captains flying as FO as well.

Nope, because past results are not indicative of future performance, and I said they "won't hire", not "they've never hired".

If you prove me wrong, I'll buy you your beverage of choice to your heart's content...but my gut feeling tells me my wallet is safe.

Please keep in mind that after they upgrade (whenever that is) the last guy hired prior to Sept 11, 2001 the next guy will shave 2 and a half years from that total. So saying it takes 7 years to upgrade is only true if you were hired in 1999, which, unless you know a professor with poofy hair and a Delorian just isn't going to happen.

QOL is not too bad if you live in domicile. min days off is 11. 99% of lines are 12 days off or more. (typical 4 on / 3 off schedule)

At ORD expect 2 years on reserve. A lot of people bash eagle's new "reserve" since the latest contract window (fall 2004), but the reality of it is it brought eagle's reserve back down to the majority of the regional industry.

Eagle is the only reserve system I am aware of where you can bid daily for open time the next day. Call outs are 120 minutes, which is industry avg to above avg. (Exp Jet is the only one I am aware of an extended callout. Mesa has one that costs money and they simply build you a crappy line out of OT with it). They can extend you during your reserve flying (which is the primary gripe of people here at eagle and was an arbitrator ruling in the last window), but they do that everywhere else.

The lines are a usual mix of a lot of 4 day trips, some 3 day / 4 off trips, some CDO's (EMJ only, but I think these will be going away soon), soem day trips.

Eagle has aggressively reduced its turn times and thus has created the "illusion" of some movement by creating additional opportunities for upgrades recently. I say "illusion" because they are not "backfilling" the larger bases and as such it has been mostly a CA transferring domiciles in the awards. Most of the movement (rt seat to left) to CA has been to the t/p, esp. DFW and LAX SF3.

Training is above regional standards. The facilities are excellent. They pay for your hotel (you will share a room for ground school until the sim). You are paid during training (64 hours) and will receive per diem every day for 16 hours (it will actually be your largest pay checks at eagle for awhile).

Eagle is not too bad. It could be a lot worse. If you can, I would live in domicile (sound advice for ANY regional). Good luck. Here is the new hire section of Eagle's contract.

SECTION 4
NEW HIRES
A. PAY AND PER DIEM
A new hire pilot will be paid for a minimum of sixty-four (64) hours of pay
per month, plus per diem for sixteen (16) hours daily until completion of
Initial Operating Experience. In the event that a new hire pilot works less
than a full month, the guarantee will be prorated accordingly.
B. LODGING AND TRANSPORTATION
The Company will provide, at no expense to the pilot, comfortable and
adequate lodging through completion of initial training. At the Company’s
discretion, new hire pilots may be housed two (2) per room during Basic
Indoc and Ground School. After Basic Indoc and Ground School are
completed, the Company will provide single occupancy rooms. The
Company will also provide transportation between the lodging facility and
the training facility.
C. EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT
A pilot eligible for reimbursement of expenses not covered by this Section
will submit available receipts which substantiate expenditures.
D. INITIAL ASSIGNMENT
1. New Hire pilots will be permitted to bid for their initial domicile
assignment after all currently qualified First Officers are offered the
opportunity to bid for such vacancy. Awards will be made in
seniority order among those pilots in that training class.
2. After completion of Initial Operating Experience new hire pilots will
be awarded three consecutive days off (i.e., move days), in addition
to their regular days off, for the purpose of relocating to their
domicile. Pilots covered by this paragraph will be considered as
holding a temporary assignment and entitled to those listed in
Section 5, Expenses Away From Domicile, until such time as they
receive their move days.
E. CANCELED CLASSES
1. In the event the Company cancels a new hire class, new hire pilots
will be considered to have been furloughed and will be subject to
recall, in occupational seniority order.
2. Any cancellation of a new hire class will be effective on the last day
of the payroll period, i.e., on the fifteenth (15th) or thirtieth (30th) of
the month. However, when the cancellation is caused by an act of
God, a national emergency, involuntary revocation of the
Company’s operating certificate(s), a strike by any employee group
of the Company, or a reduction in the Company’s operation
resulting from a decrease in available fuel supply caused by either
governmental action or by commercial suppliers being unable to
meet the Company’s demands, then the Company may cancel the
class effective immediately.
3. Furloughed new hire pilots will retain, but not accrue all types of
seniority. Such pilots will be afforded recall rights as provided for in
Section 16, paragraph C., except that a furloughed new hire pilot
will not be permitted to bypass recall.

If you get SF3 DFW/LAX, SJU ATR then you would have a great chance at holding a line as soon as you finish IOE (and are there to put in your Bid for the next month cycle). Recently in LGA/BOS on the EMJ we have had newhires hold lines after 2-3 months of reserve, which is a big change from 2-3 years on reserve for ORD/DFW EMJ. I think the DFW/ORD CRJ is a relatively quick to get a line, maybe 6 months? Its all a crapshoot and nobody can predict the future, but its not too bad.

You don't get it because you are probably happy when you're a half-mile from a green stoplight. It's going to change, and hopefully so too will Eagle. They are showing a red light now, and will probably change to green soon. But, hey, if you want to get hired by what airlines are doing at this very moment instead of where they will be, that's your choice.

I don't know. Some of us like to live in base, fly very little, etc etc. Eagle used to have quick upgrades, and someday in the future it will. Skywest/CHQ can't grow forever. Mesa is a horrible work environment, but hey you can upgrade fast, but they have no deliveries other than a few 700's coming so their's will obviously slow down.
