I'd love to see more SWA in LGA.... It makes NO sense with your business model.... Start going into the real airports and see what happens... Your quick turns wont happen, ATC delays etc.... And then you will be bumping even more customers off planes and when the fines go up for bumping, which SWA has been showed to be the worst of all carriers with over selling, will have to start wondering why they made such a stupid move to move into a market that doesnt fit their model..... I mean after all there's a reason you are in BWI, MDW, HOU, DAL and not the real airports in those cities such as IAD, ORD, IAH, DFW..... Because those simply do not allow your company to do what they do best which is unload, load, and go flying.... A plane on the ground isnt making money... And SWA would be silly to change their model....

Bingo... we have a winner winner fried chicken dinner

Can Delta and USAir have all of your MDW gates? How about your current LGA slots? I bet SWA doesn't want DL or US to have them.

You're just sayin'......

Bye Bye--General Lee

Sounds to me like SWA just wants the ability to bid on them. What's wrong with that? Would it be right to offer a contract and not consider all bidders? As far as I know SWA has no MDW gates or LGA slots for sale. If they do, I would expect SWA to allow any interested party to bid on them.

Welcome to america-
we don't have an unregulated capitalistic system. We just don't- and for good reason- unregulated capitalism devolves into feudalism and will hurt overall GDP as the productivity of those crushed by monopolies and the powerful slip.

I swear some of you need to retake Macro-econ-

If youre not willing to do that- try what my Macro teacher had us do- get a computer Monopoly game- (there's an APP for that!)-
1st lesson= try to win as quick as possible-
2nd lesson= try to win with the most money at the end-

Spend a bit of time w/ that simple game and you'll see why regulation and redistribution of wealth are positives- and why monopolies are so dangerous.

As far as this particular deal- these have always been regulated slots- they are not a physical possession that the govt has no right to control.

Swa is coming to the big towns- sorry you don't like that... But I'm positive we don't care how "unfair" you think it is considering we still operate under the wright amendment

Re reading your post is almost comical.
Take your obama economics and attitude and go live in iran you communist pig! Share the wealth? Good thing your ignorance for the constitution is as ignorant as it is with aviation. You couldn't be any more of a moron if you tried!(well maybe)
No wonder you wound up at southwest, you couldn't pass the interview anywhere else. Good thing for pay for training so you could at least use your mom and dad's money to buy your job at the airline that set the standard for sub par wages, benefits, and workrules!~
YOU rock dude!

Go get laid dude...I'm American made through and through with no help from anyone except the US govt through the student loan program and early on the cal PEL grant system-
both govt's investment in me have paid dividends to each-
unfortunately for you- I know the constitution and the govt can act economically for the greater good of everyone- sorry you think the founding fathers had it wrong:

Article I
*****Section 8. Clause 1: The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

Go get laid dude...
I will, tell mom I'll be there by 10, and you better clean out that trailer mess!

Just like your boy obama, eh?

And yet nowhere in there does it say anything about "redistribution of wealth." But working for a company that requires you to "buy your job," not surprising.
I'm sure you and Hugo Chavez could be quite good pals. Although you won't get there on your bottom feeding airline!;)
Now, how about you go get ********************ed..... dude!

I think Donald Trump should be able to bid on your CURRENT house for $50,000 less than it is worth. Is that fair? DL and US OWN the slots now. Why again do you want to "bid on them?" DL and USAir ALREADY OWN THEM NOW. That is what you fail to understand. SWA could have bid on them years ago when the bidding was open to everyone, and they elected not to, since their business model at the time was to avoid busy airports. Just because your model has changed now, doesn't mean you should be able to bid on something currently OWNED by someone else.

Better than working for your BOY Republicans and Tea Party Anti Americans. Never in the history of this country was there such internal destructive forces at work than conservatism and Republicanism in its present form. I'm a Texan from a military family. Seen the insanity first hand and while it sounds good it is destructive and divisive and anti American.

When you're in the largest market in the country you charge enough to park on the taxiway for 2 hours.

We're coming. Get ready.

I agree. To many sheepl are just to dumb to know it.

Now I'M thinking YOUR post is comical!

Oh, ok, so tell me, outfits like southwest didn't have the worst pay, benefits and work rules prior to 9/11?
You're right, everyone wanted to work there because of their stellar pay and work rules!

May I buy you a  ?

May I buy you a clue?

Come back when you guys figure out how to make a buck...

The point is that if you want to swap slots with someone else then you can....because you own the gates. Just because I want to swap my peanut butter sandwich for a jelly sandwich doesn't mean I have to put it up for sale for the whole world to bid on it. I can do what I want with it. Southwest has absolutely no case here. You bid when there are slots available and someone wants to sell...that simple.

the case is that Delta and US Airways chose their own competition in giving those slots to the "airlines of their choice". Slots they clearly didn't want anymore.

SWA called them on it and the DOT evidently agreed. SWA didn't say the slots should go to SWA...just that all airlines should have the opportunity to compete for those slots through a bidding system.

Obviously Delta/US airways didn't want them...so, let there be a bid for them.

Even the General should be in favor of this...it would generate more $$$ for Delta. And, after the competitive thrashing mainline Delta took before they up and quit trying in Lubbock and at the DFW airport, this $$$ from a LGA slot bid should be all good for the Mother Delta....right?

The slots will be available after it goes to court if you still want to make the swap.

Or the case is sthat southwest cried that it didn't get any slots that were already owned by other airlines. Where was southwest when DL and US were flying out of these major NE airports? They were chasing AMA and HRL.

SWA called them on it and the DOT evidently agreed. SWA didn't say the slots should go to SWA...just that all airlines should have the opportunity to compete for those slots through a bidding system.
You mean southwest cried and complained that it wasn't fair, even though 10 years ago claimed they wanted no part of this part of the country.

Obviously Delta/US airways didn't want them...so, let there be a bid for them.
Or................southwest could piss up a rope and DL and US can just keep those slots to themselves.

Even the General should be in favor of this...it would generate more $$$ for Delta. And, after the competitive thrashing mainline Delta took before they up and quit trying in Lubbock and at the DFW airport, this $$$ from a LGA slot bid should be all good for the Mother Delta....right?
Actually keeping southwest out of LGA is a good thing, they've already brought down the environment in enough places they fly to.:D

Don't bet your pft job on that.........

No, I don't agree. When you own something, you should be able to sell it to whomever you want. The DOT is run by Ray "the hood" Lahood, from Chicago. (don't you have a MDW base?) We all can connect the dots probably. If DL has too many slots for some reason, then they should be able to sell them to Westjet, or Airtran, or whoever. DL actually followed the rules, but The Hood still didn't like the result. Now DL and USAir will try to sue to see if someone with less personal interest in the deal can reason through this mess. And, in the end, DL still doesn't have to sell the slots at all if they don't want to.

As far as money being made at Delta, I think the Q2 results will be good. We shall see....

Of course you don't agree. That would mean +1'ing a WN guy.

Wait! Wait! I wanna go back to where St Nic is telling us that Mike Cleary saved the day! BWAAAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAA!!!!! Say it again, say it again! BWAAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAA!!! That thar is some funny shiznit...

The issue started when they stated that the airlines had to sell slots at a auction.

This deal is done. Lets wait for the next one.

USAPA came out strongly against this swap and low and behold, it didn't go through. Did USAPA single handedly stop it? Maybe not. But they had a strong influence on Washington to tank the deal and that is what an in house union is about- no confused politics like the DALPAs driving the agenda. You can;t argue with success.

No, I don't agree. When you own something, you should be able to sell it to whomever you want.

True....when it is a 767 or a dc-9-10 or a jetway ...

BUT...when a company has to go to the DOT to get approval for a so-called slot swap, and get that approval before it all happens, then no, those slots are not wholly owned by that company...they seem to be under DOT control...

That is why this entire deal was put out for public comment by the DOT before it was approved ( or now, disapproved ). SWA being part of that public, did indeed, make a comment about it.

Like it or not, the DOT seems to have agreed with SWA.

I would like to ask, as this discussion goes forward, that if you decide to comment on this, let us know if you did or did not let the DOT know your feelings on this deal during the public comment period.

I, for the record, took the time to write a letter to the DOT on this matter.

So SWA wanted to change the way everyone does everything? First your old pilots lead the way for Age 65 change, and now the company wants to change how airlines get slots? Wow, kinda cocky!

Bye Bye---General Lee

Gee ,....ya' think???
