Whatever the NWA guys get is a heck a lot more than we got when we were hired at DELTA, 0$. I guess all of us, DAL pilots, should put a claim to payroll, to make sure we are treated the same as our "counterparts". But again, that is not how it works, those poor guys are getting so screw, and they are taking such a hit, medical and all, and of course the payraise really is no all that.....

Jetjockey,

Why are you taking it so personally that you guys were able to raise the bar for us. Are you the type of guy that revels in other people's misery?

By far, I would say the general consensus is that NWA pilots understand the uniform change and will do whatever the rules state. If a 747 guy in NRT wants to buck the system, let them at it. I would love to see a DAL guy (retired or not) put them on an unpaid vacation. A little dose of reality for them would be good.

I am grateful for the $400 uniform allowance. I will wear it properly because that is what I am paid to do. Anyone who doesn't isn't being very professional , but then again I guess it just doesn't matter to a lot of people these days.

LOL....maybe all the NWA guys should submit a claim for $350 for our jackets that were made useless. It sucks enough going back to the flasher coat, but having to pay for it adds insult to injury.

FBM is right... Any retired do-gooder is going to get laughed right off the airport at any NWA hub...

Don't post drunk!

We get $400 because we had "change of uniform" language in our contract (Section 26). We got $0 for our NWA uniforms...just like you got $0 for your Delta uniform. Since we are being made to change the uniform we bought (with $0 compensation), we're getting reimbursed for a portion of it.

But again, that is not how it works, those poor guys are getting so screw, and they are taking such a hit, medical and all, and of course the payraise really is no all that.....

Will I get in trouble at Delta if I speak and write in complete, coherent sentences?

I wonder if they will be laughing at the unemployment office? The 4th floor (delta speak for flight ops management) takes the uniform seriously and I would not put it past them to make examples out of a few guys to prove a point. Occam is right wear the uniform properly while fighting battles that really matter.

I know of at least one delta captain who got called into the VP of Flight Ops office for doing just that. It seems that Mr. Bastian did not appreciate the criticism of his performance.

Delta has the APU Sheriff program. Usually a retired Delta guys that walks around the ramp to make sure your APU is not running until 5 min prior to departure (policy is different in the summer). These guys wear vests and hats that say APU SHERIFF. It is hilarious

Maybe hilarious but it's saved us over 34 million at last count. We might not break a profit for 08' but my guess is in 09' 12,000 of us will be laughing all the way to the bank with our bonus $$, of which some will come from APU savings.

The APU Sheriff program is a good thing. It does save the company money. What is funny about it is the hat with a badge on it that says APU Sheriff.

And what, exactly, does the Sheriff do if he catches you red-handed with that APU running, say, 8 minutes before departure? Is it off to the pokey with you or does he just issue a citation??

How big of a loser does one have to be to spend his golden years prowling the flight line for "violaters" rather than enjoying his retirement??

It's ugly. Left it on after arrival, heard some sirens, saw flashing lights and the next thing I knew I was sitting in a special "shame circle" painted on the ramp wearing my hat backwards for 15 minutes.

I think they just look for airplanes with APUs running and no crew around, hook up power and air if need be and shut off the APU.

Buy the correct uniform.

Wear it correctly.

Worry about bigger issues.

Heyas Occam,

Not to worry...I was in DTW going to the store to get my commemorative cofffee mug, and the uniform guy practically grabbed be out of the hall. All ordered up...and even with the extra stuff, I only had to cough up $100. My other stuff was worn out anyway.

But the tape measure was broken...kept reading high for some reason...

I checked out all but M&H and I must agree it appears Abbotts is the best quality and the only uniform made in AMERICA!!!! Every other one is made in CHINA...I can assure you I am going to buy USA when ever possible.

Abbotts it is!

Thank you for the advice.

Sounds like a deal. Did you order any shirts with the gusseted holes? I'm gonna go with my M&H shirts. They land well.

Good one! My hat can be smaller.

(sigh)

Call me for gouge.

I am afraid that mine will be too. Same amount of fabric, just shorter length and more in the waist.

Who did you go with, StopOver?

Heyas 123,

I went with Abbotts. Between the quality and the fact that they are made in the USA, it was a no brainer.

No shirts though...since I have a fairly slim build, nothing fits right...not even in the ball park. I wind up getting tailored shirts.

When you get the fitting from Abbotts are they requiring you to buy everything at once? What I mean is can you buy the jacket, 2 pants, epaulets, tie and NOT the hat. I want to buy one from Premier Hats and not the Superior brand. Thanks.

Good question......how about the fact that by the time we are required to start wearing the Delta uniform it will likely be past the end of Feb 09 which means the double breasted jacket won't need to be worn until Nov 09. Why buy it now to put in the closet until Nov 09?

Won't your planes be in the Delta "paint scheme" after the DCC? (or when they are painted, which some could be painted fairly soon afterwards I guess) Won't the stews and gate people be calling you "Delta flight XXX"? I know there is supposed to be a "codeshare" etc, but when would you be called "Delta" after the DCC? I don't know. IF you are called Delta, then I suppose you would be required to wear a Delta uniform by then.

Bye Bye--General Lee

RTFQ....what he means is when the DL uniform is required for the n-dub guys, the jacket won't be required until the next fall. Therefore.....

Being PLAYED by Mgt Well, I See...

:erm:

Call me crazy (or rather "Been there done that,") but it sure seems like the old aviation mgt (or even union1 vs union2) negotiating trick of having the pilots focus on something insignificant in the grand scheme of things (eg: HATS, UNIFORM issues) is working well here.

Don't even TELL me this stuff is going to be barter material for you guys down the road.

FOCUS people, focus....

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

scope

scheduling

They WANT you focused on this piddly stuff...meanwhile the cuts will keep coming...

Ford & Harrison sure never change their tactics when they infect these companies, do they?

What are you talking about? For 7300 of us, its just a new widget sitting on our uniform that doesnt cost a thing nor will I really even notice it. For the others, they get our snazzy sailor uniforms...

No contract negotiations to come for a while now...

The internal memo WE got said NWA crews to wear Delta uniform starting next Spring. What? There's some intel we got that YOU didn't know????? Wow. Hard to Believe.

BTW, If our a/c are to be in Delta livery by DCC......well, let's just say they better get to painting.

For those of those of you who are worried about the uniform police- just try to conform close to what the FOM says. I had an F/O show up for work about a year ago in cowboy boots and a guitar strapped to his back. He flew just about as good- he thought that a vertical speed descent at 1000 fpm would work when the descent page kept on climbing as to what was required. he was basically worthless-I thought he must have been a company plant to see if I would do anything.

ok, I can see, MAYBE, a relationship with not following a uniform policy as a reflection of not complying with profiles. However, what does carrying a guitar have to do with anything? Was he violating a policy with that too?

A/C will be painted as they come up for scheduled paint job. They will most likely put a Delta decal someplace on the a/c . It will take 3/5 yrs to paint all a/c...This from past experience.

There is lots more uniform compliance in NRT than you will ever see in DTW.

I was thinking the same thing! Besides, doesn't Delta have like 3 or 4 different paint jobs flying around.
