Let's see, Southwest might go outside the 48 CONUS? Sounds crazy. But the growth that could lie ahead for Southwest is almost limitless since they don't fly international now.

As Southwest looks ahead to a more efficient 737 (Max), Delta is trying hard to recapture smaller cities with an older 717. Except for Memphis and CVG of course.

Yeah, you just started SJU, right? GREAT FOR YOU! FANTASTIC! And, you just got VNAV and autothrottles. At this rate, maybe Mexico (without the AT guys help) in 4 more years! Su-wheat!

And, Delta has recently added SEA to Tokyo Haneda and Shanghai, will probably announce Heathrow to SEA soon (just got an extra slot from Alitalia) and was recently awarded an extra slot from ATL to Sao Paulo. Yeah, only 717s and closing predominately 50 seat RJ bases....(CVG still remains open according to RA)

Keep looking ahead at the MAX Red, maybe it will carry you to Hawaii someday, after JetBlue, Virgin America, Spirit, and even Great Lakes beat you there. FAN-FRIGGEN-TASTIC.

Again, for the guy who knows jack squat about how companies are run (airline or otherwise): The AirTran bag fee money goes to run AirTran, just like all the other revenue. Southwest revenue goes to run Southwest. All profits go where all companies' profits go--some to capital expenditures, some to the bank, and some to the shareholders.

"All of [our] planes" say "free bags go here"? Well, that's not true. Some of Southwest's -700s say that, but certainly not all. It's advertising for Southwest. And at the other, completely separate airline, exactly NONE of the planes say that, because it's not true for the other airline.

Tell you what, Einstein--when you see an AirTran plan advertising "Free Bags Go Here," then you can bitch. Until then, you should probably stop advertising your stupidity. There's a few people out there on FI who may not know it yet.

Years ago there were 10 legacies, and one small LCC. Now, thanks to consolidation, there are 3 mega legacies and one large sorta LCC, that combined have 88% of the total domestic traffic. That sorta LCC has now been replaced in that arena by Spirit and JetBlue. What has also changed in the last 40 years is an alliance system between INTL airlines. Alliances allow airlines to share airport gates, ramp crew, gate agents, etc, and keep flying for the business passenger seamless. Can SWA ever get slots in London or Paris, and would people fly 737 max planes all the way over there? Who knows? They might get slots at outlying city airports, but as soon as they start, Ryanair and Easyjet will come in and try the same, and that won't be good for you. So, I have a feeling GK is trying to get a handle on the AT merger and trying to get SWA's reservation systems or whatever else fixed to handle Mexico and Caribbean flights first. Hawaii could be next a few years from now, but even Allegiant has beat you there. Good luck.

We will not be going via the max. I could see a codeshare with Ryanair or Easy jet once we off load our pax in London or Paris. Wouldn't it be FANTASTIC if SWA started to have cheaper international flights than Delta and offered better service. People would flock to SWA. Of course Gen I am being sarcastic But you never know

I always think it's entertaining to think that Southwest would barely be getting by if we branch out beyond the 48 CONUS. Simply, we feed ourselves and have a large, loyal customer base that's ready to go. To places like Central and South America, Europe and pretty much any other international destination that comes down the road. Most likely pulling some non-loyal, legacy customers from the other carriers. Just due to the fact they would prefer to fly SW to those destinations instead of brand x.

I like how the General always downplays any growth for SW. Please keep betting against us Gen. We'll see how that works out...

Hey, I corrected the initial poster, the fluid part was about class dates, not delivery dates of planes.


Red, your future INTL routes are suspect, especially across the pond. Around the region and down to Central and South America, that is possible, JetBlue and Spirit already beat you there. But I doubt you and GK will go for Trans Atlantic, and Easyjet and Ryanair are waiting for you to try something.
