Last night we gave a ride to JALways pilot. They are cabin ACM only.

I know Air France told me if I were on a pass and couldn't get a seat, captain would take me in the cockpit jumpseat. Captain authority is alive and well there.

And it shows in the kind of service they get from the flight attendants in the cockpit... :D

I travel a lot and always try to introduce myself to the crew every time. About 8 out of 10 times, if the flight is going away from the US or around other contries, I get invited to the cockpit.

I used to take a lot of COPA guys as jumpseaters in my previous life. One time I went to get the favor back. Going from SJU to SJO. Capt, said no problem, took me down to Panama and then said I needed to get off the AC. Had to buy a ticket on the spot to continue... Won't be trying that again...
From what I hear, most latin american airlines won't even let their own pilots jumpseat.

Compass is being used to replace some NWA mainline A320 and DC9 flying at both INDY and DTW.

All DC9-30 are being replaced by a combo of Pinnacle and Compass aircraft, sad but seems to be true.

We'll see what happens after the merger, my guess is that Compass and Pinnacle will replace even more mainline flying as mainline domestic capacity is reduced.

Good opportunity if you want a job at Compass or Pinnacle, but bad if you wanted a job at DAL or NWA.

Don't you mean Mesaba instead of Pinnacle?

Compass has what 8-10 airplanes and Comair has over 115. That would be interesting to see Comair go bye bye and not just put Compass into Comair

We shall see. There are hubs and many regional flights at risk if the two merge. I don't see a bright future for Comair and CVG with this one.

Many of those CRJ's could be headed to China for all we know.

I guess not, but then again, I don't care either, do you?

Trojan
I do care.....Any consolidation is going to mean job losses. I don't want to see anyone out of work. And if you're flying in the DCI portfolio, you should care too!

I may be missing something here but, arent the feeders for NWA tapped out per scope after 18 more aircraft orders?

Ahhhh speculation, what will our crystal ball lead us to believe this week. Some may be right on the money and some may be totally wrong. One thing is for sure, big change is underway and will be for quite sometime. Legany's and regionals, in fact the airline industry as a whole. Give it time folks, we will have all our questions answered soon enough. Whether we like it our not, big changes are coming.

I think as recently as 3-5 years ago or whenever you actually filled out a jumpseat request, it was more likely. Now they pull it it in the computer and you are either there or your not. If you are not in the system I think it would be hard to get past that point without a lot of crew intervention.
Jalways and Air Canada are on most reciprocal JS lists so that is not that unusual. I carried a Jalways pilot at World once and was caught off guard but they are listed. I t would be great to be able to go back to Captain Authority and take whoever we friggin want! If this is a pilot negotiated right why is it regulated by the gate agent? I think the pilot should have to be in the loop!
