if this plays out like many believe it will, we're going to have to hire this fall. Going to get real interesting very soon.

I'm no expert here, but I would put the 88/90's in MSP and DTW, close the MEM DC-9 base, then move all the -9's to ATL. Then I'd put a -9 on every route that Airtran flies with a 717.
If so, you might want to put XM radio and internet on those -9's to compete.

The problem with that is that all the -9 flights out of MEM are pretty much full. They could shift through passengers through other bases but MEM works and I dont see them shutting down MEM. In fact they've been adding routes unlike CVG. I see CVG being cut even more and MEM growing. They are about to expand the Terminal after they finish the new tower which is almost complete. Time will tell

So does this JAL deal mean hiring for Delta?

They really do not need to hire this year. The only reason to do it, is to be prepped for next year. There will not be too many major changes that they can make to the summer 2010 sked. Maybe a few more cities in Asia, but it appears that may be set.

As Monster is stating:
Wavering on a DFW base, and putting 90's all up North. Who knows it changes hourly some times.

Must be why RA said, "No. Never," when asked about a DFW base at a recent on-line chat.

Maybe, but as lawyer do they answer the question, No never a hub. Does not mean a virtual base, fa only base, super-focus city etc. The answer always depends on the question asked.

Next bid or not at all is what many have stated.

So what planes flying out of DFW?

the 9 avg. about one hour above 10,000, no point in it. It is barely worth the money on the 88 except for the business class.

I think the -9's are getting WIFI, and who really cares about XM Radio. 98% of everyone who flies has an IPOD that has what they want to listen to already on it. XM stinks and won't be around in a few years because it costs billions of $$ to put satelites into space to do something you can do with the internet for nothing.

So If what the news is reporting that JAL would retire their Widebodies, don't you think they still got to connect the medium and small range stuff to something? How will that fit into things?:D

OOOOOOO, AMR is gonna be P.O.ed. Their presence in the Pacific just went down the drain.

Moral of the story....don't outsource mission critical items. That goes for everyone.

Watch out ALK, you're now in play. Good luck.

I am thinking we don't care what AMR thinks and would be happy to go after them. That may well be what is going on.

All of the press releases from Japan seem to indicate that Japan Airlines will be shedding the wide body international flying and focusing on their domestic operation. This leads to the appearance that the flying goes to SkyTeam members of which DAL would probably be a significant beneficiary of.

I wonder if something larger could also be in the mix? or smaller?

How about C, both.

We got lots of irons in the fire these days. In three years it will make or break this company. With what these things are, I am going with the former by a long margin.

If memory serves me, I think someone mentioned just what might be Delta's target for total pilots? Can't remember where I saw it but maybe someone can find it.

A while back I was told 18500 by 2020.(like three years ago) If that happened I may pass out. :D

Yep, us going after then will force the dominoes in this industry to fall, consolidation to finally happen and profitability to return. It is necessary and we are on a roll. He who moves first generally wins.

I was told 15,000 by someone in the know, and they said it with a straight face.

But you know how it goes....lies are told with a straight face...it's the truth that's told with a dismissive giggle.
