A-net (Q-400)
ANK (737's)
These other operations within the ANA group are all residing contracts

During training, do you have a chance to go home for a few days or is it 6 months straight (and you'll like it).

Any real difference in Cargo vs. PAX (ie better layovers)

Will AJV continue NRT-ANC-ORD or is that going to be leased out?

1) After completion of sim and check rides, you get to go home for 3 weeks. Your family gets to visit you during training also and all expenses are paid

2) AJX is a passenger with all the flights originating from Narita, we have a mix of day trips to China and a couple of overnights

AJV is cargo and it is mostly back of the clock stuff with a lot of DH's

3) About the ORD roster, the word is that ANA has leased two 744"s to do those flights and the 76's will be doing only China and a couple of destinations on southeast Asia. Also the prospect of a ORD pilot base has been put on hold for a while, their business plan is to get something bigger in the future (they said 777's) but by 2012
But it is the airline business after all and all is subject to change

Of the two (AJV/AJX) would you say have more nights in NRT, which I understand is on your own dime?

Would the KIX "temporary trial base" for AJV be on your dime too?

AJX is probably in NRT more. You are paid about 560$ per month for accomodation in Japan. Anything more than 10$ per month you are paid an additional 50$. I am not sure how the AJV schedules are now, but for a while, they were spending a LOT of time in NRT sitting in the hotel on standby duty. For a while they were only flying about 35 to 40 hours a month. I think it has since picked up a little thought. At AJX I am on my 3rd straight month of overtime.

One of the AJV guys has told me that they are giving you a company paid apartment down in KIX to get people to go there. I have not seen anything official yet though.

Open question to the contract pilots:

Almost every co-pilot I'm flying with nowadays is going to be furloghed unfortunately, and many of them express interest in perhaps doing some contract flying. They all have 1000's of hours of flight time and usually at least a few thousand hours of turbojet PIC, often in a RJ of one sort of another. They also will have a 737 type (or A320) with a few hundred hours of SIC time on their jets. I haven't flown with any that have heavy jet/international experience.

If you guys could give advice to a guy in that situation who is about to be furloughed and who would want to take a plunge into the contract world, what would it be? How would you tell them to get their resume "out there"? Do you have names and links to specific, REPUTABLE contract companies (like PARC I guess?) that these guys should set up an account with? Is there anyone/anything they should absolutely avoid? Type slowly please as I know nothing about the contract world, and many of them don't either

I'd love to be able to give these unlucky fellows something other than just a sympathetic ear- maybe perhaps some information that could lead them to a (better) job.

Parc, ANA and IAC all have the contract and there are a lot of posts on here and pprune about the job.

OK thanks, but please clarify for me. I found the Parc website, but I'm not familiar with the abbreviations you mention. I assume ANA is All Nipon but what is IAC? And what is the AJX or AJV contract you refer to? Links please maybe? I'm really not familiar with the contract world.

By the way, I assume you flew the Do328 in the past? I just flew with a guy who was a 328 pilot for Midwest Express and is looking at some sort of contract in China to fly that jet as a Captain (he's about to be furloughed). Do you know anything about that contract or anything that I could pass along to him? I assume there aren't many Do328 contracts out there, so maybe you're familiar with it and whether it is a good or bad deal?

I am with Parc and have no complaints. There is some unhappiness with guys that are with HACS at the moment. They dont seem to be as well run as Parc. Rishworth seems to be one agency that has a lot of complaints from a lot of people for a very long time.

Have worked for both PARC and Rishworth, Parc Aviation does a great job of supporting pilots when they have problems, on the other hand, good luck trying to contact anyone at Rishworth, if you do get a hold of someone, they will make excuses, lie and do their best to rip you off.

There is an upgrade program at both AJX and AJV. You should upgrade within your first contract unless you cause problems.

3. What is a average work month like?
4. How many days off in the US do you normally have?
