Yes, you really just bid for days off but if you do it ahead of time (last minute requests are a problem for the scheduler) I haven't had a request denied so far

1. trip trading/ dropping trips?
2. Bidding on different monthly schedules?
3. What is a average work month like?
4. How many days off in the US do you normally have?

During the 18 days you're "in country" what would you say a typical month is like - how many of those days are you "off", how many on a layover, how many days long are the trips? Aside from the obvious financial issues, how feasible is it to take your wife back and forth with you to Japan every month and have her hang out there while you fly? 10 days sounds a little short on the marriage.

Your family has ZED fairs available to them so you can take them anywhere you want within the star alliance system. Visitors visas in Japan are good for 90 days

Qualifications: 300 hrs F/O on type / 1,000 hrs on airline
transport / last flight on type within 1 yr

Licence: CPL (Multi Engine, Instrument & Type Ratings)

Age: max 44 years at joining / 60 y.o. retirement

Term: 5 years + extensions to age 60


Bases: LHR / CDG / FRA / AKL / SYD / BNE / LAX / YYZ YVR /JFK / SFO / ORD / ATL / HKG / KUL / BKK

Salary: US$8,260 tax paid per month ($8,420 without insurance) / $6,160 ($6,320) during training. $90 per hour over 75 hrs / month (paid off-shore)

Joining Bonus: $1,000 paid to First Officer after successful completion of line training / line check

Per Diem: US$2 to US$4 per hr / varies per destination

Days Off: 9 continuous days per month at nominated home
Base / plus commuting days (add 2 days leave = 11 continuous days per month)

Annual Leave: 2 days per month (24 days per annum) / taken monthly or up to 7 days together in any 1 month

Sick leave: 10 days per annum

Travel: Confirmed travel to/from home base each month

Comprehensive staff travel for F/O and family (details TBA)

Accommodation: Quality hotel accommodation and transport provided in ICN and throughout network.

Insurance: Various options including excellent Loss of Income of GBP£780 per week for up to 2 years (Lloyds of London) paid after 14 days if unable to perform F/O’s duties with KAL.

Personal Accident/Life Cover of GBP£78,000

Comprehensive world wide Medical (including Medivac) and Travel Insurance


Korean Tax: F/O’s Korean Tax paid by CCL (Korean tax credits apply in several countries)

Bank Transfer Fees: All bank transfer fees paid by CCL


Applications/Interviews: CV’s/Resumes are submitted to KAL in the first instance. A three day interview/sim check/medical program in Seoul will be offered, and completed application documents will be then be required by the airline. KAL Application Packs now available.

KAL will provide tickets from any on-line port to ICN. Quality hotel accommodation and transport will also be provided by the airline.
