And finally can guys please stop sounding so immature on the radios and especially on atlanta radio, learn to make decisions and not have your dispatchers tell you what to do. dissapear RP and please take all you pilots with you.

Now as for how RAH is stealing all this flying with their bar-lowering contract, I picked five data points from airlinepilotcentral:

(All 50-seat rates)
Yr1 FO- RAH and EJ, $22/hr. Comair lowers the bar with $20.
Yr5 FO- EJ-$38, Com- $36, RAH- $35. Wow. That's an astounding difference.
Yr5 Cap- EJ- $66, RAH and Comair- $64. 3% difference. Big whoop.

I don't see these horrific pay differences that are allowing RAH to steal all this flying, people. If anything, Comair is lowering the bar. Go to a yr10 Cap on a 70-seater, and the RAH guy will be making $5/hr MORE than the Comair guy.

I know, I know, the REASON Comair has such mediocre pay is because of RAH... That explains the longevity freeze, right? For all the self-puffery we've been subjected to about how great the Comair group was for their pre-9/11 contract, they sure knuckled under to management in an astounding manner with their CURRENT pay.

I'd love to hear the spin on THAT one, too... Should be as comical as "Well, Comair didn't steal better-paying flying from Delta, but RAH sure did steal it from Comair".

Basically, all three of these companies' pay pales in comparison to Horizon. That 10yr captain in a 70-seater at Horizon is making almost as much as the 10yr captain in a 70-seater at Comair AND the new-hire FO sitting in the next seat COMBINED.

At least I now remember why I stopped posting here... These arguments and threads about "who's stealing whose flying" are exactly the same today as they were a year ago (and five years ago). *sigh*

Again, the logic is flawed. You are comparing Comair pay rates that are about 25% lower than the original contract to current RAH rates and wondering why all the flying is being shifted. Most of that flying was shifted when our rates were vastly higher than they are now...at least as high as Horizon, who you tout.

Notice I did not mention "our flying" or "being stolen." Fact is, mainline management has figured out how to shift THEIR flying to the cheapest carrier to maximize profit/minimize loss, and to keep all labor groups in check, off balance, and in fear.

Don't know where Airline Pilot Pay got those numbers, but I'm making $38 as a 3rd yr FO here...10% higher than a 5 yr RAH FO, AFTER the pay freeze. Not going to research the rest of it cause I don't have the time, but obviously the #'s are inaccurate. Perhaps they reflect the pay cut we have not yet taken.

Also, what does CHQ pay for deadheads, per diem, retirement? Block or better per leg? How about duty limits? Rigs? Displacement credit? Vacation? Days off? How senior is their pilot group and why is that?

Again, I'm not bashing the pilot group or their contract. Just stating that their labor costs are lower, resulting in lower bids for flying.

I am not proud of where we have gone with our contract in recent months, did not vote for the cut, fought vocally against it, and will not defend it. All I can say is that management holds the cards... we were very expensive pilots and FA's relative to the industry and that was the incentive for us to be liquidated, which was a scarier thought for some than others. I understand why the cut passed but don't condone it.

Does anyone out there think Comair pilots would have voted for a cut/freeze of any type IF RAH, Mesa, SKYW, ASA had contracts rivalling ours?

Exactly. Once you look at more than strictly hourly pay, it's night and day. Comair's work rules add probably another $2/hr.

However Samballs, while you are entitled to your opinion, those are awfully strong words to be using based on the fact that you saw one of our pilots act in an unprofessional manner. Sit back and please look at the situation logistically though....the pilot group at RAH is a great one despite what you may think...and our group as a whole has no internal intention of delibratley taking flying from other groups or delibratley causing freezes and concessions at other carriers as you like to think. Were making this way more complex than it needs to be...managements makes decisions like this not the pilots...

Most CHQ crews I see look presentable and professional. We all have our slobs. The only evidence I see otherwise is on the radios, where at least 50% of the time they leave off their callsign and just say the flight #. Also, often they say it like a game show...ChaaaaauuuuuuTaaaQua. Sounds like they're so freaking thrilled to be flying a jet that they can't contain themselves.

Also, if you're all so proud of your contract and growth at our expense, why do you always lower your head or look away when you see CMR guys in the airport? I always try to smile and say hi to CHQ crews because I know we have a lot of jerks who don't. It's rare to see anybody who will actually make eye contact. If you are truly proud, then don't act ashamed.

I hear CHQ pilots saying these three things over and over. In reality, they really don't matter.

Junior manning is an issue of last resort for airlines. If there's a flight that needs covered, do you honestly think the airline would cancel it if there was a crew legal to do it?

No hot reserve, huh? Doesn't your contract allow it, but your management chooses not to utilize it? Couldn't they start having hot reserve tomorrow if it made sense to them? (section 6.L.10)

Christmas bonus. Ok, that's nice. I'll give you that.

As for work rules... why don't you get paid lost block while sick or on vacation? Why don't you get 100% DH pay? Why is your cancellation pay tied to a specific completion factor that is out of your control?

The above is more of an issue to me, personally, than junior manning or a Christmas bonus.

I ALWAYS look every Comair crew right in the eyes and give them a wave and a hello when I'm in CVG. I also make sure my ID is turned the right way.

If the story is true, I have an observation. So you had enough time to watch him purchase and eat two subs, yet when asked why you didn't voice your displeasure at said RAH pilot, you claimed it isn't your job and then it was you didn't have time. I'm fairly certain even the fastest of eaters would give you enough time for you to go over there and say something. It's not hard to see the real excuse for your silence. The only amount of sack you could muster is to come onto an anonymous message board whine about it. You're a real hero. Is this you?

You're going to have to get this answered by someone who works for RAH. The people I know who DO work there seem to be very happy with the quality of life, days off per month, commutability of schedules, no junior manning, etc. I don't think that the Comair work rules sound tons better, and certainly not "night and day".

Trip and duty rigs? Vacation? Retirement? Don't know.

I do find it odd that you are being so snarky about callsigns on the radio, going so far as to criticize how they pronounce the name of their company for chrissakes... Yet say that, hey, you're friendly to all of them anyway and assume that they're "ashamed" in the airport and won't be nice to you. I wonder why? If the behavior of Comair pilots on this board is any indication, they're probably just as nasty to them in person. Enough experiences with your people has probably just taught them that there's nothing to be gained be being civil to you, so why bother?

I honestly know that we cancelled 82 flights the second Friday in June for lack of crews. I didn't have to worry about being extended into my day off.
