We all expect to be able to handle any emergency. This may prove again that there are ones out there you just can't. Very sad.

If any UPS guys can PM the crew intials, I'd appreciate it.

The crew reported to ATC that they were on fire and unable to see their instruments.

No they reported a cockpit fire. Look at post number 14.

PPRUNe has more info where by the way they already diagnosed and solved the problem with recommendations to Boeing. Unbelievable that place.

glass raised...

I, for one, will raise a drink in rememberance of our two lost brothers. A very somber start to the holiday weekend. God speed fellas.

My thoughts and prayers to the crew and their family...sad day!

Sounds absolutely horrifying to me. After thousands of hours, my gut would sink at the slightest smell of smoke, or something odd. A worst nightmare I can't imagine. Something I could never overcome was that one event where no matter how "good" you are, how brave, how well trained, you would not succeed. A sad day. God Bless them.
