Crashed in a place called Arabian Ranches, a housing development that went bust and is uninhabited. It's several miles from the airport but close to densely populated areas. It's possible these guys steered a mortally wounded bird to a safe area. Might have done something truly heroic, time will tell.
Local news has yet to report fate of the crew but did report a large fireball.
Hoping for positive news.
The Pig.
Wow pretty shocking. You don't expect these kind of freak accidents especially from operations like UPS and with brand new airplanes. RIP to the pilots.
When the cargo is on fire,
The crew reported to ATC that they were on fire and unable to see their instruments.
No they reported a cockpit fire. Look at post number 14.
PPRUNe has more info where by the way they already diagnosed and solved the problem with recommendations to Boeing.Unbelievable that place.
Sounds absolutely horrifying to me. After thousands of hours, my gut would sink at the slightest smell of smoke, or something odd. A worst nightmare I can't imagine. Something I could never overcome was that one event where no matter how "good" you are, how brave, how well trained, you would not succeed. A sad day. God Bless them.
Post 14 is copied from an article by a reporter. PPrune accounts by PILOTS that were on frequency during the event. First report from the flight was a Main Deck fire warning.
