Great advice! Here's one for ya. Work at Taco Bell because you love the free chalupas....not because it's a job.

You're a tool.

Man alive,

If you stay in this career, one day, you will not believe you ever felt like saying something so stupid. You are not alone, everybody probably felt like this at one point but let me assure you, unless you are independently wealthy, and can do whatever you want in life, you will not feel this way when you get a couple of thousand hours. This job is highly specialized, and requires unreal amounts of responsibility and professionalism. That shoulnd't come cheap, certainly not for free. It's about $$$$, everybody else will make it on your back and skill, why not you?

Well, I hope I NEVER become like you guys. How miserable you must be. I love flying and yes I will get paid for it. I'm not an idiot so stop talking down to me. I never said "Fly for free." I'd take flying, complete with emergencies and all, over a desk job any day.

And how is the original poster's "I don't care if I get paid" statement any different than a CFI groveling at the feet of an airline hoping for an interview. Then, if they do get the job, they just accept the pay and start complaining because they are on reserve. If you are unhappy in the airlines, find another part of aviation or get out of it all together. There are a 1000 other people who will gladly take your job. That's business.

Stop trying to dampen the spirits of the people who really like to fly (no matter what type of flying it is). It isn't benefiting anyone and it is only hurting aviation.

Hadhafang,
It's guys like you and your buddy aland that are the reason that that all the PFT schools are doing so well. Hopefully your flying is not representative of the amount of money that you obviously feel that you are worth. "That's Business," come on, you sound like a guy begging for a chance to cross a picket line and steal the food off of someone else's table.

You mo-fo's are just too much. What's wrong w/this industry is NOT the lowpay, it's the attitude of the people who've "made it" being so unwilling to help the guys starting out.
"Just go and be a CFI and fly traffic watch in the morning and afternoon" You make it sound so easy! I've done a million searches and have yet to find any traffic watch job, and besides most of the ones I see when I drive around are done in helicopters, not airplanes.
All you guys were once at 250 hours and willing to do anything to fly - you weren't thinking about salary or 'getting what your worth' or anything - you're only thinking that now because you've crossed over to the other side and are securely riding along on your high horse.

Get your CFI's and teach....but TEACH YOUR STUDENT BECAUSE IT'S WHAT YOU WANT TO DO, don't view them as a time builder only. Look into CAP, Angel Flight and some other stuff where you are donating your time to fly...

Sadly, you are not the only person I've talked to recently that is from MAPD that was sold the line by RS and RC at MAPD of "we believe that there are people out there that don't need to get their CFI's" and "we have a 98% hire rate for our graduates"

PM me if you want

Like many have said, you're a professional now, you deserve to get paid... and at 275 hours I went and did banner towing, I was able to get on the insurance and I racked up about 580 hours in 3 months. Good luck.

Before you start classifying all of us as mo-fos unwilling to help people out, I'm practically right where you 250 hour guys are right now... do you know how hard it is to get a job with 30 hours multi, even though I've got 1400 hours TT? There are jobs where I qualify but it's another single engine... 210 or saratoga or 206. Don't even say I could fly 135 b/c I've still got 60 hours of NIGHT time to go. I barely meet the instrument mins because you just can't shoot mapping photography when it's cloudy or dark. I've got my CFI but don't have time to instruct b/c work is so hectic, not to mention I can't turn down a steady paycheck to either instruct for peanuts an hour's drive up the road or get enough students locally to make free-lance an option. I've got quite a bit of student loan debt from my masters in civil engineering and from getting my ratings. In case you haven't realized, you have to start paying these loans back when you graduate. I love flying but I have bills to pay. I can't justify the money I've spent to get where I am as a "hobby." If I could get away with that, I would have bought a Luscombe with that student loan money years ago and bore holes in the sky on the weekend.

I've even passed on some job info on here about getting some PIC dual (from the left seat, not a seat warmer) in a Partenavia. John2375, I haven't seen you PM me about that position. Don't even cry that it's not out there when other pilots are spoon-feeding leads to you.

You're one of the cocky low-time pilots that gives other young guys like me a bad name.

Let me clarify something. Several of you have said that I am some low time pilot just trying to "steal" an airline job because I mentioned that I actually like to fly. How you draw that conclusion, I have no idea. I'm practicing what I am preaching. The airlines are not my goal. I wouldn't touch them with a 49-foot-pole. If I did, I would probably end up dissapointed also. Why are you so negative about aviation? You knew what the business was like before you got into it, so why did you continue to pursue it? Furthermore, stop posting that some of the other posters and myself are willing to work for free. I NEVER said that. I just love to fly, and if I get some opportunity to fly that I would not get paid for (not a permanent job) I am going for it. Every flight is a good learning experience. If you had the opportunity to fly a P-51 as a safety pilot (crazy, I know), would you actually demand that the pilot pay you? I guess it comes down to why you are in aviation. There are two groups: Those that are in aviation to make money, and those that are in it because they love to fly. The money route might be dissapointing, and the other route will be up to the pilot to make it successful. So stop bashing the the guys who are in it for the love of aviation. Help the low-time pilots, don't put them down.
