Nope XJHawk, dun’t sound like yer at all fired up. But now, the wiccan gay-lesbian-transgendered-alliance towel-folding peta left-sided rock gathering folks, why, - reckon they’re the ones who prolly lifted the private contact data in the first place.

P.S. That FSM Theory is seriously Awesome. ‘splains --everything...

Religion, in and of itself, is not a bad thing. In fact, it can be wonderful. The problem with religion today, and the associated values, have become a measuring stick for personal value and quality.

I can see it now: CA Christian extends bible study/worship invitation to FO Differentbeliever. The FO politely declines. The CA assume that he is "not a believer."

Five years later, the FO has been asked to interview for the job of his dreams at X Airlines. Well, who is sitting on the interview board but CA Christian. The good CA never has to say a word about his beliefs, but just quietly rejects FO Differentbeliever's application.

That is why religion is inappropriate in the work place. It puts pressure on an employee to do something at work that has nothing to do with work. Many of the evangelical believers are relentless in their pursuit of new members. And if you do not support their views, you are not worthy.

XJhawk,

Just an FYI, if ALPA has your email, it's posted on our MEC page pilot directory. The only reason I say this is because I'm pretty sure there's noone named "XJHawk" in the directory. By the way, I'm having a gathering next week...

And if you think this is typical behavior from a Christian, you don't know a whole lot about it. I don't scope out new members on the job, and I don't consider someone else as being unworthy because they're not Christians. I consider myself unworthy and I am a Christian. Most Christians consider themselves worse than they consider others. We're more familiar with our own failings, you see. There's not much room there to look down on someone else.

For XJ:

I think most of us are just a little too eager to take offense at any possible Christian influence in our lives, and at the same time all too willing to show "tolerance" for any number of behaviors that are ultimately harmful. It only seems to be Christian behavior that sparks such outrage. And for what? Hurting your virgin ears with Godly talk? How awful for you. Better to profane God and pass the Maxim. There, feel better?

If you don't want invitations, or even conversation, be a man about it and inform the inviter that you don't wish to receive further notices or that such talk makes you uncomfortable. And then let it go. Don't get your panties in a wad about it. Don't rage on a message board about how you were violated for being forced to read such devastating email material. Treat it like spam and get over it.

I just got an E mail from one of our (XJ)Captains based in Dtw. The e mail was quickly deleted after i realised it was about an invitation to a gathering of someone preaching JEsus. To me, religion is a private thing, and something i do not want shoved in my face at work, or on my e mail account. What does others think about all this? Oh and by the way, if this contunues, i will notify the proper people to have this stopped. Oh and again, by the way, do not try to save me or convert me to your brand of christianity or chrsitianity for that matter.

Waaah waaaah waaaaah whine whine whine.....boo frickin hoo. What is with all you non-christians that anytime you see anything remotely christian you get all offended and start whining and bit-ching like a bunch of crybabies?? GET THE F--- OVER IT AND HIT THE F-ING DELETE KEY. IT TAKES ALL OF 3 SECONDS. The guy isn't tying you down to a chair and forcing you to listen to Christian rhetoric!! He sent out an email INVITING you to an OPTIONAL Bible study. If you don't wanna go, don't go!!! Do like the other 80 million people in the world would do!!! Hit the f-ing delete key and stop whining!! If you overhear people talking about church in a crew room you'd probably start f-ing bit-ching about how you don't need to overhear anything christian in the workplace because it offends your delicate sensibilities! Dude, you seriously need to get a life.

Most Christians consider themselves worse than they consider others.
You never spent any time in the FI Non-Av forum back in the day.

Look ... I'm about as big a heathen as one could possibly be and not just frigging spontaneously combust, but even I , the King of the Heathens, don't get bent when the Jehovah's Witness programmer at work sends me a copy of the Watchtower, or the evangelical Philipino programmer sends an Everyone email about a Christian concert at his church, or even when the Captain I usually fly with wants me to bow my head for a prayer before eating at the buffet while on a trip. That's just being respectful, and it's just not something to get bent about.

Even heathens like me have much more important things to worry about. :)

Delusional

I agree with the hawk. The jesus freaks are delusional. Instead of helplessy hopping that we will be o.k. Why don't you do something about it. Praying is not going to help matters. It's not God thrat created the war against labor, it is the Republican rulers in the Whitehouse that is doing this. Don't pray, vote the suckers out.

a simple mistake?

I think everyone who is upset over this, including XJHAWK, is over reacting. I think the sender of the email must of mistaken XJHAWK for someone who would be interested in this type of gathering.

The sender was not trying to convert or impose christianity on anyone. He was only trying to invite those that have previously indicated an interest.

XJHAWK, you should be an adult about this. Contact the sender and decline the offer. Also state your aversion to being emailed about such topics.

No harm, no foul. :)

"Would you like this flower from the Church of Religious Consciousness?"

I think that's how the line from Airplane went...

Well, that went over like a lead-balloon!

Wow was his letter misinterpreted. I received the letter as well and I was thankful for it. It was in no-way intended to 'Bring all you heathens' in to hear about his beliefs in God! It was quite clear that the entire intent of the letter is so that people who believe the same way the writer does would come and share with him in his beliefs. If being offended is something worth 'notify the proper people' about, then I better start talking to the proper people on the way the f-bomb is dropped like it's going out of style, how pornography is watched, touched, passed around, and drooled over and if you say you're not interested the response is, "What, are you a homo??", and I should also mention the CA who kept pushing and pushing me because he saw a sticker on my bag and realized what I believed and for some reason was intent on telling people I hate all homosexuals. What was really funny was when one of our homosexual flight attendants told the CA to go fly a kite!

Now, I don't list these things because I'm offended and holding a grudge. I list them because I think EVERYBODY could make their own list about things they are "offended" about. Shoot, some people are probably offended because you didn't offend them! The people with true character, though, are the ones who say, "No thanks - not my thing" and then go on with their happy life.

XJHawk - Please do us a favor and just :) and move on with your happy life.

Thanks,

I have now stepped off of the soapbox.

On a different note, I discuss religion openly to some captains that ask about it. I fly with many mormon captains (hint hint) that ask about my islamic faith. Its mostly on the last day of a four day and they alway start off by "would you mind if i ask you about..."

I am open about my religion and we end up having a very good discussion on religions and world topics. In no way do i ever over step my boundaries and neither does he. We dont shove it into each others faces about our religions and we have an open ended discussion.

I dont necessarily think that speaking about religion is a bad thing if, and only if the discussion is between two mature, professional adults.

On the other hand, how do most of you feel about praying when you are not in company time or on extended breaks? I know its the month of ramadan and whenever i get the chance i pray on the side where i am not as visible. Do companies look down upon that or they treat it as if you are on your own time.

Well said CP. Couldn't have been summed up any better! Twins in 2006!

Hawk,

"Man, you're one Pathetic Looooossser!"

~DUMB N' DUMBER~ Just felt like a movie quote!

Sirrssly Tho,

How about you just tell yourself that someone was just trying to push your buttons with the email and knew you'd get all wound up (like a joke), then you can just let it go. Just a thought, dont let it get to you! I can agree with both sides, small potatoes compared to whats ahead for XJ'ers.

Sorry but you have to understand

For Chrisitians, they are called and directed to share the Gospel with others, they want to help you get right with God. They don't think they are better than you, but it is their duty.

They are called not to keep it private but to tell all the people in the world.
You can't keep the best news in the world a secret.

Good for you. I wish more people where like you.And no, as long as you pray on the side, where your not as visable, I won't look 'down' at you.

You've been annoying us with your "news" for 2000 years. Quietly keep it to yourself.

Then you've been retired for at least 1,945 years. What are you complaining about?

Jesus said the gospel is offensive. It offends those who love their lives and the unholy things they do. I used to love my unholy life until I began reaping the wonderful consequences of sin. A little VD, alittle divorce, a little destruction here and there. It's so much fun. Yeh this Jesus guy that warned us about all these things in the Bible, we should keep it quiet so that all our friends can ruin their lives too. Alcohol addiction is wonderful. And the fun of worrying about getting a DUI on the way home from a bar, I love that feeling. Oh and what about the joy of wondering if you got AIDS from a girl you slept with ten years ago. Yeh this Jesus guy should be hung on a cross for destroying all our fun.

A non-believer doesn't necessarily lead a destructive life and to harm to others including themselves, just like a believer can do bad things.

I think that the original poster is upset because his email was obtained by this person from someone involved in his employment (his airline or his union). I had this happen to me at my former airline but it was usually for fun things like parties so I didn't mind too much. I had opened a new email account for the sole purpose of receiving company communications. When the email address got out to every pilot on property, it was difficult for me to cancel the email account when I quit the job, because I wanted to maintain communications with my former co-workers.

I gues what I'm saying is that I understand xjhawk's frustration at his email address being given out by his employer or his union without his explicit permission.

English, The Mesaba Pilot Directory is strictly voluntary. If you don't want your info in the directory then you simply don't submit the info. XJ MEC/LEC sends out forms for those pilots who want to be included in the directory. This guy has no Bitzch.

rightrudder, the Bible says there in not anyone righteous in the earth. So, Just because someone doesn't explore all the depths of sin does not mean they are righteous. Compared to some people a "good" non believer may seem righteous compared with his neighbor but we won't be compared to our friends and neighbors on that great day. We will be examined according to God's Word. The first commandment says "Love the Lord your God with all your heart...". A non believer may be good in his own eyes but he still hates
God. The only people that will be in heaven are those who love God. If you don't love Him here you won't love Him there.
