I guess you guys just don't get it. It really doesn't matter how you perceive it or what your whining is about. I guess that should have been almost predictable. However, one common thread for us all, is that we had some role model or other inspiration to pursue our goals. Whether it was another aviator, or a Mother who said, "Yes, You Can!", there was some catalyst and/or encourager in our life.

so, are you saying these girls didn't have anyone, not even a mother, to say "yes, you can!". Now thats a situation I can have feeling for.....

The real issue here is role models and values, something most of you guys on here dont understand or take for granted. She mentioned having a relative working as a pilot who inspired her to follow in his footsteps, do you think she would have been a pilot if it wasnt for that?

Neither did I, but I did have a supporting family, someone to co-sign my student loans, help me out when I needed it Etc, I am sure you did too and so did those Women it seems. Now those Women can do the same for someone in the next generation...it's a healthy cycle.

That's not the rumor I heard... This had to do with a "gift" from a very special buddy, not some type of co-signing.

Ask the training dept about their skills. There were many issues with one of them. We had a female pilot a few years ago that required 125 hours of IOE. I remember 3 guys in my class (granted, long time ago)that were let go after sim 8. I have no issue with a female, or minority being an airline pilot. I have a huge issue that exists with the double standard that surrounds them. Affirmative action only serves to continue the divide and anamosity that it strives to eliminate. If you want racism and such to dissappear, then stop bringing it up.

You should not consider that an excessive amount of IOE considering that she probably had never flown a jet before and as you know, the sim is NOT the real world. I'm glad that she got the time she needed to become comfortable flying the jet in the real world, on the line. I can guarantee you that if YOU needed 125 hrs of IOE, that you would be grateful to your airline giving it to you and not showing you the door are hour 26.

The thing is someone far more capable could have gotten that job. But if the company would have treated her like any other struggling new hire and let her go, all the outside entities with acronyms for names would be alerted. Which is far more trouble than it's worth.

You apparently haven't been to some of those "Good ol boy" stations have you? For many of them I have to get the red neck dictionary to translate and a dip cup for the van driver.

First Female pilot hired - 1973
First AA female CPT - 1999

107 years to the first all AA female crew at any carrier. This is a milestone b/c it has never been done before. Even this day and age the percentage of minorities in aviation is very low. The sheer chance of having an all female crew much less an all AA female crew (double minority) is almost an impossibility. If this motivates even one female, black or white, to enter the field of aviation then the attention is well warranted.

But back to your questions:
1. Zero at my school
2. Maybe 4-5 when I was first hired
3. Never said it was anyones fault, that was your ASSumption.
4. What man do you speak of? Many people never consider flying as they may not have been exposed to it. As a child I flew to visit relatives every year. Others may never fly in their lifetime. Again if seeing this crew will inspire even one female, black or white, to enter aviation then the attention was well worth it.

hearing that this was 'arranged" by scheduling, it was black history month etc etc. Is it true that SB paid for teh capts lodging and approved her for additional sims? why wouldn't he do that for others???????????????????

Actually it happens all the time. The all female part. It's just not national news worthy because they're the wrong color.

You are correct as I have seen all AA crews before as well as all female crews before and no they didn't recieve any notoriety. Thus your last statement is moot. I was speaking of the double minority part. Again, this made news as in the 107 years of aviation this is the first of any airline. They did and continue to do their jobs as professionals ... well done.

Freebrd, don't believe everything you hear. Do you actually believe that skd would troll the rsv list trying to find these two and put them together. All this while checking everyones picture to ensure they were black and they would have to do this while complying w/ the contract and not give assign these trips out of order. This is a milestone like it or not and it does mean a lot.

Let me make it simple. There are over 70,000 airline pilots in the US with over 28,000 commercial airline flights every day!

That equates to over 10,000,000 flights per year! It would not be a stretch to say in the past 20 years there have been over 100 million flights. Extend that back to the beginning of aviation and the number starts to approach half a billion flights!

So it took half a billion flights to get an all female african american crew to fly together and that is not worth mentioning?
