Year of Still Here!

The Year of Still Here
Dust off those tiki bars and fire up the blenders...concert season is right around the corner! Jimmy and the Coral Reefer Band are headed to Frisco, Texas on April 26, East Troy, Wisconsin on July 19, and Bridgeview, Illinois on July 24 and 26! Tickets go on sale March 3. Stay tuned for more dates in The Year of Still Here tour, coming soon!

JP....going to Alpine Valley.....Can't combine it with the Oshkosh trip this year, but still a great venue!

Exactly. It's not the same unless it's an outdoor party. There isn't even a place to tailgate there! I don't know anybody who went to the Phillips last year.

I would think a die-hard Parrothead would take any opportunity to see Jimmy. Maybe "die-hard tailgater" would be a more accurate description for you? :p

Sweet. Need another driver/margarita fixer?

On a 25 min turn, it just doesn't make sense to turn off the apu.
In ATL there isn't ground power or air (C/D)

I just think our fuel burns are down since we got a new contract, nothing due to APU usage.

If you can have the APU off for 2 minutes per flight system wide, it saves over $800,000 at current prices, according to the fuel conservation guide that just came out.

If a station has power and air, why not shut it down for 15 minutes? (25 minute turn, off for 15 minutes, and back on 10 prior to departure.) Even just 5 minutes is huge.

All it takes is a few button pushes, and it is quiet when your FO does the walk around.

I understand people waving off power only in summer, but there are still people out there waving off power AND air. Why?

Us being cost efficient for mother Delta is going to keep us in business. Let's play along to save our own hides. Pure self interest alone should have us all shutting down that APU at every possible chance.

I taxied behind a plane yesterday that started up both engines at the gate, and left the APU running...

How about instead of filing us at 310 form MTY-ATL they file us at 390 when we have 13 folks and faster winds higher, like we did last month. Maybe even climb out at 250 (until TOC) at the outstations.
We saved 390 pounds in our one leg last month. Think it's a bit misguided, once again our pain for their gain.

You have never flown our jet, have you? If you had, you would never even think of FL390 in summer, or-worse, a 250 knot climb at altitude

Here's a little experiment-just try climbing at 250 to TOC, and see what happens (after the Capt beats you about the head and shoulders.) When you learn that swept-wing aircraft are not the same as your "riddle" 172-just you get back to me.

-Now run along, us adults have important things to discuss.....

Hahaha... I don't think I've seen 390 even in the winter. Maybe once. Well, he does have a point about climbing higher though. On long legs we could step climb up into the 30s and save some gas.

.....absolutely.....Alpine Valley is a great one....The lawn section is bigger than General Lee's ego.......

You know it. I love Alpine Valley. From my first days snowboarding there in 1985 to my soccer tournaments there on the plush grass to the soggy 3 day stay that the Grateful Dead did back in 1989, which would be there last shows before they were banned by the local city council. Huh? Go figure. What an experience that was. Especially sliding down those slippery wet/muddy covered slopes on pieces of cardboard/garbage bags in pouring rain. Then there were those Heads trolling the lots mumbling "squares, boomers, ganj, x, snow, tye dyes, pipes, bongs, bootlegs, $10 hits, $5/gm shrooms, nitrous ballons, blue meanies, blah, blah, blah." A strange crowd indeed. A kind of gloomy scene with so many lost Jerry's Kids with no direction. No way near the uplifting fiesta vibe of a tailgating party lot filled with Jimmy's Parrotheads.
Alpine holds many fond memories, although, there was one tragic night I can remember. In August 1990 in East Troy, after his concert ended with a foggy encore jam session with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan and Robert Cray, Stevie Ray Vaughan boarded a helicopter destined for Chitown. He never made it, the helicopter crashed unnoticed into the hillside .6mi away from the amphitheater and ended his life 36 days before his 36th birthday. Last song-"Sweet Home Chicago"-Jam on Stevie.
OOPS!! Sorry about the drawn out trip down Alpine Valley Memory Lane in East Troy, Wisconsin. Go! Packers Go!

Now back on subject, Alpine Valley and Jimmy Buffet.
Pennekamp,
We finally have something in common, you're a good man.

Joe Merchant,
Not sure if you knew it, but Jimmy was in Oshkosh a few years back with one of his seabirds. Priceless.

Tell you what, nothing beats a good Parrothead convention anywhere, anytime, Right? October is looking real good out West. 10/16-San Diego, 10/18-Vegas, 10/21-Mountain View and 10/25-Vegas. When your Dad's best friend in KASE knows Jimmy and the road manager, you're set for life for any JB concert anywhere. Best seats in the house with margarita in hand and maybe even a spot in the staged pre-set congo line. A great guy too. When I grow up, I want to be like Mr. Jimmy Buffet. Livin the Island Dream. Now send over Dezdmona's Rocketship so I can blast the hell out of this godforsaken desert.
Oh, YEAAAH!

First of all, the bleeds open takeoff results in the cabin altitude climbing anywhere from 1200-1800 fpm. That's why I stopped turning the apu off before takeoff.

I've never noticed anything like that. Not on the gauges and not in the ears.

.....Or how bout you take some initiative and request higher! After you have checked to make sure you can get up there.

You have never flown our jet, have you? If you had, you would never even think of FL390 in summer, or-worse, a 250 knot climb at altitude.

You're flying the wrong plane. That's the problem. :D

If ground power and air is available, don't start APU until 10 minutes before departure.-Brett

They need a "project" to do that? I've been doing that for 3 years...even before gas was above $2.

This country needs to learn from this whole energy crisis that the best way is to operating efficiently regardless of if it's financially motivated or not. We're only now shunning SUV's because gas is so high. yay.

But good job anyway ASA. More airlines should follow this.

The difference also is that ASA couldn't do this before. GPUs and Air carts?? In Atlanta? HA!!

The funniest thing is the new jet bridges that supposedly had the power/air turned on this week.....most of them are already broken! Hilarious! I hope they got warrantys or money back on those!
