Ya know, even if every red cent of the money you save by shutting the APU down whenever possible goes directly to the pockets of every overpaid manager at Delta...how about just shutting it down for the sake of a little less emission into the atmosphere? Or the sake of a little less wear and tear on the APU...making it just a bit less likely to be deferred when you need it?
WOW someone that actually makes some since out there...

JP.....Don't save gas for Delta.....Save it for Al Gore and Mother Earth......

Maybe you can get some carbon credits......:D

Besides I know you NEVER run the APU.......

Yeah!!!

I noticed that General Lee started his own thread bashing SKW for passing on its fuel costs, and not even once does he thank us for saving Delta some serious money.

General Lee suffers from Small Penis Syndrome.

Well better than Hillary and Gore....but still way too far to the left.....I prefer Jimmy on stage....not in DC......

Speaking of which, do you think he'll play Lakewood this summer, since he blew it off last summer? I'm having withdrawals. I'll have to get tix out of town if he doesn't come this year.

It is amazing how many pilots at SKYW adhere to this fuel saving deal. They dont have much of a stake in it other than the environment and about $40 per quarter but yet almost all the guys/gals I fly with have it embedded in their profiles. Luckily, the thanks these dedicated folks deserve is sarcastic thanks from our fellow pilots. Luckily, most of them have the personal integrity and sense of the herd.. hehe.. to continue with their efforts.

I've been going out of town to see him.....Last year was MCO, YYZ, and Alpine Valley.....Alpine Valley and Wrigley were probably the best.....YYZ is also good....

LAS is too expensive....seen him twice there....

How's that for a thread hijack.....

I was thinking Alpine Valley if he doesn't come here. I have family close to there.

He played Philips Arena last April but I seem to remember a certain scuba-diving ATR Captain mentioning on the ALPA board how an arena concert was something "die-hard Parrotheads" like himself wouldn't bother with.

Anyone consider just flying the aircraft as efficiently as possible for the sake of doing just that? Regardless who pockets the cash, it's the least wasteful thing to do. People get so hung on up avoiding the Kool Aid bowl they don't use common sense. And in times when Delta is talking about trimming back their DCI carriers as well as the innevitable merger, it can't hurt!

What a difference in culture. At the dark side of SkyWest, Inc. we never start the APU before landing unless we need it for icing conditions on approach, and I've never noticed an uncomfortable temperature during the couple minutes you're at full idle. If we know it's going to be a long taxi out or a lengthy delay we'll go single engine. We just started doing bleeds open takeoffs in the -200, and I haven't noticed a temperature drop because of it yet.

First of all, the bleeds open takeoff results in the cabin altitude climbing anywhere from 1200-1800 fpm. That's why I stopped turning the apu off before takeoff.
As far as your experience with the uncomfortable cabin temps, my guess is that you don't regularly fly in the southeast in the summertime like 90% of all ASA flights (thanks JA).
Single engine taxiing is one thing but subjecting the pax (and myself!) to climb rates like that or heat like we get in the cabin, it just isn't worth it.

Exactly. It's not the same unless it's an outdoor party. There isn't even a place to tailgate there! I don't know anybody who went to the Phillips last year.
