Part of the reason we taxi so slow is also due to our massively long "before takeoff" checklist... but that's just one of the reasons....

Then when you're cleared for immediate takeoff, say you're unable. Don't hose the guy on final who's not part of your fight.

The NWA guys do it all the time. I DHed once in the back of a 757, and it took us 24 minutes taxi time to get back to an open gate... Even the next pax asked me if there's something going on in the cockpit, I just answered, "They're shooting for on-time arrival".

It was back in 05 during BK, i wonder if it's still the same??

CA1900, it happens to everyone out there, not just AA. I've seen DL, NWA, UAL and (you name it) take their time. Not trying to "hose anybody on final"... but we still have to complete the checklist, even with an "immediate" clearance. The AA pilots' focus is on flying safe... with the introduction of FOQA and flight department harassment, we are NOT in a rush to hurry it up and screw it up. You can read between the lines with this post... but bottom line is, you're gonna have to be patient if you're stuck behind us. Sorry man... we have too much to lose.

No kidding:
Such as "Southwest, how's the mansion and vacation home?" :)

that may be true.....today....not sure about tomorrow, but i hope so. BTW...you can thank the guys/gals at UA, DL, AA, and NWA for those rates you are enjoying at the moment. you can also thank a very savvy and lucky cfo as well!

instead of thanking us for your mansion and vacation home...your test in proving your place in the industry will be to enhance SWA PWA during the next round with your management.

can you do it?

Southwest, take a left at the second stoplight. Just past the 7-11 you'll see the signs directing you back onto the field. By the way, it appears you may have cracked the fuselage on "rollout". I'd recommend you have it inspected.

You know, I used to enjoy coming to this board every once in a while to gain valuable information in my search for an airline job and learn more about the industry. Now it's just a bunch of schoolgirls trading gossip and slinging insults. As professional aviators, making fun at a carrier's past misfortunes is not only poor taste, its shows a lack of SA. We as individual pilots have control over one thing - our own airplane. If a guy needs more time to taxi to be safe - so be it and God Bless him. Sorry, had to vent at the "my carrier is better than yours BS" that this has turned into...who cares?

Sadly this is the airline piloting "profession" of today.

Is it any wonder why this former profession (now a job) is in such a sorry state.

If you want the good life where two entities are oblivious to all this bulls%$t, go into airline management or get a position with ALPA national.

Both places will make you very wealthy and you don't have to waste your time listening to a bunch of children whine.

Couldn't have said it better.....my sentiments exactly. It has gotten pathetic.

IMO, the reason AA pilots take their time is that if anything goes wrong--for ANY reason, the company will persecute the pilots to the maximum extent available.

AMR is a punitive, petty, vindictive corporate entity. They have the pilot group they deserve. The have created a hard-assed, radical, "I've got it--you can't have it" mentality. Thanks Crandall, Carty and Arpey. TC

Bingo!

I would add, persecute AND prosecute. What with water bottles being thrown by chief pilots, floggings for calling in sick, etc... it's becoming dangerous around here! We'll take our time, thank you.
