I have noticed a couple of AA MD80's taxing at a snails pace lately. Just wondering if they are upset at something. I am all for it. They help me overblock a couple of legs the past two days.

Its called Max Pay Taxi.................

They have been doing it for years during the good and bad times. I always try, if possible, not to ever follow behind them. Pretty pathetic! Hard to believe they are ever on time.



The old adage goes like this............the ground controller is working a busy airport and says:

Delta, are you lost?

United, I don't have time to argue with you now!

American, are you having any mechanical problems?

:D
 
I was told by a buddy there they are in a "job action".
 
Although he didn't say which: hand or blow.

what do ground controllers say to you?

I am sure there are a bunch of us who could come up with a few classic quotes for you.

SWA, the FAA has just grounded your aircraft for non-compliance with scheduled maintenance. Turn left at Taxiway Alpha.
 
hey SWA where are u? oh never mind you are already off!! the runway I mean really out of it, completely on the sidewalk.....................no wait, that is a gas station...
 
I have to hand it to the AA guys, they seem to be the only pilot group left that will stand up for themselves. Hope they can lead the pax carriers pilots back to real wages. good luck

Yeah I know!! I was real impressed by them in 2001 and 2002 when they demanded DAL and UAL wages....:rolleyes:

Such as "Southwest, how's the mansion and vacation home?" :)
 
I don't care what you do on the taxiways, but please keep it off the runway! Had to go around at LAX recently after an AA "cleared for immediate take-off." I guess I did over block though.

Don't take it personally. I've seen them make other AA planes go around.
Indeed, aviation is serious business, making sure everything is ready to go, before pushing the thrust levers is just adding another layer of safety/doublecheck to the process. I am having a hard time seeing how this can be bad, letting a controller who's only risk is spilling hot coffee or burning his tongue on the free LUV pizza tell you when you are ready to go is potentially dangerous.

'Tis true.

Of course, last I checked, studying history and cracking jokes about something where a kid got killed are two seperate things. Maybe I just believe a little too much in karma biting me in the arse when it comes to things like that.

I have always thought LUV was and is a potential accident waiting to happen. Cutting corners either in MX, FLT OPS, is a disaster waiting to happen. When I see LUV taxiing at 30-40KTS(estimated), I know it is corp.culture driving the plane not the pilot. If I offend your delicate sensibilities, so sorry.
Life is harsh, and when an individual trades safety for corp.profit, that individual is morally responsible. My lack of sensitivity will not bring that kid back, and if it causes one pilot to think about taxi speeds, its worth it.

In 20+ years of flying a/c for money I have never scratched(knock on wood) so much as one plane, I don't cut corners, I add other peoples safety enhancements to my process.
