. "Hawaiian needs solid Island-bred leadership."

What every airline needs is a good leader period.
It doesn't matter where they come from or even their
background. Look at Herb at SWA. He was a lawyer!
Ah, there you made me say something nice about
lawyers. Now I will shut up.

At the risk of starting a civil war here, I agree with hog. What we need is the best airline president. Period.

Nothing against finding a kamaaina to run the company, but if the person only has experience in the islands, that'll just lead us down the path to destruction. We need somebody intimately familiar with the business, the world economy, and with a love for airlines and running them.

Somebody local? If there were somebody qualified, I'd guess they'd have stepped up long ago. It's a small world - time to stop thinking locally.

I guess it is kind of naive for me to think there could be somebody in the state to do the job. Most of our talent has high tailed it out of this state in the past ten years. What were they calling it? The brain drain or something right? And why do I want to return so bad when I could have such a nicer life in some corner of the southwest with land measured in acres and more wildlife on the property than pets. But if no ocean no mahalo. Hawaii I stay, even if I have to commute the next 30 yrs.

And these CEO's still shouldnt use our airlines as training grounds for a better paying or more glamorous job elsewhere.

HAL, Seems like you guys had your chance with Brennenman, but declined. I certainly don't mean to throw any flames, but that sort of opportunity won't come around very often. Uh-oh, let's not turn this thread into a re-hash of the merger flames. I just hope this thing gets back on track soon!

No flames here, just an opinion;
Brenneman may have been a good choice for CEO if we'd merged, but a lot of the 'rumor talk' was about him eventually breaking us up and selling us off. That isn't the kind of CEO we need, no matter how qualified they are.

Back to the orginal question...

Does anyone have any info about future classses at Aloha?
I know there is a new hire class in Jan. What about
after that? Anyone at Aloha seen a deliver schedule for the
new 737-700s? If they are getting new planes they must have
a plan for them.

classes

Rumor I heard was New hire class....then an upgrade class, then a new hire class, then an uprgrade class....rinse and repeat. don't know how many or how long this will continue...but i'm likin' it now!

HAL concessions?

Hey you HAL guys,

We just heard a rumor that you guys may be asked for pay concessions???? They can't do that after furloughin' some of your pilots can they? What's the word on your end?

Don't give 'em a cent!

Jim-
Don't give those guys a penny. You guys have done plenty over the years to help that company. With the huge amount they are trimming they can cover their own darn costs! Hopefully all of this will be short lived...I think with our pay cut it has put us back to like '97 or '98 wages. Now that sux!

I also hope those furlough numbers stay lower rather than higher. I know initially the letter came out for 43. Now it looks like 33. Thats better news! How long do they give you notice wise?
