"The ALPA Executive Board today voted by an overwhelming 80 percent margin to end the union’s longstanding support for the FAA Age 60 mandatory retirement age for airline pilots. In the face of concerted efforts to change the rule in Congress and the FAA, the ALPA Executive Board directed that union resources be committed to protecting pilot interests by exerting ALPA's influence in any rule change. “The Executive Board spoke clearly this afternoon,” said ALPA's president, Capt. John Prater. “ALPA pilots will be fully engaged in shaping any rule change. Any legislative or regulatory change needs to address ALPA’s priorities in the areas of safety, medical standards, benefit issues, no retroactive application of change, liability protection, and appropriate rule implementation.”

Thanks ALPA. :(

thanks for setting the entire industry back a decade.

grab your seat at your carrier of choice, fellas. the doors are closing for a while.

Any questions now who runs ALPA? Old guys looking out for Old guys, unbelievable. This should make the Usair arbitration a bit more interesting by mowing down the fences.............

That stupid survey we took, they only took one aspect of it.

"In its deliberations, the Board took into account the high likelihood of rule change through either the legislative or the regulatory process, as well as survey data from ALPA members overwhelmingly affirming that if the rule is going to change, ALPA needs to influence that change. ALPA will now develop a comprehensive legislative plan to do just that."

What a joke, so much for representing the majority. ALPA is no better than our government, represent the minority with the most money.

Where are the poll results???

I agree where are the results?

I am ashamed to say that I know John, and that I supported him... Just another case of old guys looking out only for themselves.

I guess I can look foward to "yanking gear" for him, when he's sent back to us.

I didn't know we put so much stock in the CRYSTAL BALL PREDICTIONS of member pilots. Any hot stock tips guys?

Yeah...baby !!! Now ALPA is going in the right direction !!! GREAT NEWS !!!

Still no recall motions at the LEC meetings...oh yeah...it's still the same 13 guys showing up...I had almost forgot.

I support AGE 65!!!!

of course, I won't be flying past 55 and will never board an airliner with a pilot who wears Depends and is only there because he couldn't set aside dough for his golden years. .......but I still support it!

Dear age 55+ airline pilots,

You're welcome for the windfall.

Signed,

Every furloughed and/or under 40 airline pilot's career expectations

My question is, will our pilot medicals become 'real' medicals now? That could thin the herd, mentally and physically.

Crashpad soon you will be one of those pilots that you hate!

What's the process for recalling Prater? I don't give a sh$t what he or the others that are in the minority think on the age change thing that's not what I am paying them for. I'm tired of my dues supporting the self serving types.

Bullet points from the ALPA Press Release...

Opposing any additional age-related diagnostic medical testing.
Opposing any attempt by the FAA to obtain greater access to pilot medical records.
Supporting FAA Air Surgeon Tilton’s recommendation to require a 1st Class Medical certification every six months for pilots over age 60.
Opposing for domestic operation the implementation of the ICAO standard that at least one pilot in the cockpit be under age 60. Once sufficient data on pilots over age 60 becomes available, unless the necessity for this mitigation for the long term is clearly shown, advocate for removal of the ICAO over/under mitigation for all operations.

ALPA creating desperate pilots can't be good for the profession. This basically negates any pilot shortage and creates a surplus of desperate pilots applying to VA or skybus. There will probably be significant undercutting......This is why NWA management is against the change.

Sneaky little scumbags aren't they. That one question on whether ALPA should be involved IF the change passes lets them ignore the wishes of the majority. Now they can say, "well weeeee feel it's going to change so we're just doing what our members want. Ha Ha Ha what slime balls.
