So Rez why should pilots that already pay 2% of their paycheck have to pay one cent more to get things done in Wash D.C? I can see them not being able to support candidates with union dues money. Having to donate money just to get your voice heard when that is ALPAs job in the first place? Thats f'in retarded. Why the %(#)( should pilots have to keep forking over money? You guys wonder why ALPA will never get voted in at SkyWest. I am the true voice of the SkyWest pilots. We all know that ALPA just wants our money and nothing more. Why else would they be doing this full court press to sucker us into voting them in? BTW a union in todays world is useless. Deregulation is in full swing, the economy drives the market now not the unions. Personally I think it is fantastic that pilots haven't been allowed the right to strike in quite some time.

Skywest does not fly 70 seat jets at 50 seat rates. They are flying 70 seats jets at an amazingly low rate.

YOU my friend are clueless - which in of itself is a natural place to be with your experience. Everybody has to start somewhere in this industry in regards to experience but to actually have the balls to say YOU are the "voice" of Skywest pilots is ridiculous.

NEVER complain about how much you make the next time Oakleys don't go on sale or the price of hair dye for your spikey hair goes up. If you actually CON a poor girl to actually marry you and you want a little security for your family - I think you will reconsider this post but if you get your way now - there WILL be no more Unions and you will be an at will employee with no wages and no future.........have fun with that.

THANK God that you are NOT THE VOICE of all pilots and you are a minute segment of this industry........we have lists for people like you.
 
Yup... if you want this career to be better you need to pay attention to the palyground; CapHill. Want to be a player at the play ground or just a spectator? As a spectator you can watch the players kick and pass your career around...as you do nothing but watch...

An all out strike would get Capitol Hill's attention. It would say pretty clearly "The RLA needs to be repealed, Pilot's aren't taking this lightly"
ALPA is all volunteers, they don't need the money. Pilots have cell phones/e-mail to keep in touch with eachother.

Rez, I'm not anti-Union. The way some of these people on here tell it, it is the job of management to fire it's employees, so thank the Almighty for the creation of ALPA. I just think (and know) each airline with it's own Union would be more efficient than ALPA. If the ex-ALPA members still want to gather around after work and go play "Union" by all means jumpseat out to DC and have at it. It wouldn't be a problem since ALPA is all volunteers anyway.

Case in Point: American Airlines and Southwest Airlines; neither went into bankruptcy

Let's just clear one thing up Rez.........I am and always will be ALPA. I was TSA MEC and the first line of that post was taken out of context - I was educating the lad on how things work at National and Capital Hill with a little RLA thrown in........

Rez I think he is one of those RJDC guys. Poor soul...... The reason I think so is that he is an ASA guy. Those guys had it good because of their dedication to ALPA and now they are fighting to keep it. ASA is a good company because of ALPAs leadership and their pilot unity. Delta guys see it too thats why they are pref. hiring them. They agreed to help fellow ALPA pilots out in need. Skywest is going to love flying 70+ seat jets for 50 seat pay, at least ASA has a say.

What???? ASA has never been "dedicated to ALPA". In 1998, we had to fight ALPA just to get what we have now. In 2000 we tried to form true "brand scope" with CMR and DAL, but ALPA said no.

Does ASA have a say if we don't have scope? What say did ACA, Mesaba, CMR, or ALG have?

What did you tell ALPA:

ASA Pilot: "We need better pay for the equipment we fly!"

ASA ALPA: "No. You guys make too much as it is. There are millions of you willing to take this job so you will get a sucky contract!"

I dont buy it. What does ACA have to do with anything and scope? They are not the mothership so they didnt call all the shots on who got the flying.

I didn't invent the game or make up the rules. Why do you have to pay taxes, work, get out of bed and breathe?

Smart people realize that this is the way it is both the CapHill Game and life in general... that these things cannot be directly and instantly controlled.

Yes, it does happen all of the time, most companies fire first ask questions later. But whatever I am not saying that you should be an ALPA member, I am just saying that I sleep better at night knowing that I have some protection.

I've been at a lot of places and I've never, not once, seen someone get fired for nothing. Maybe for something I personally thought should NOT have gotten them fired but NEVER for nothing.

I have a friend who was fired from a non-ALPA carrier. The company refused to tell him why he was fired, or even give him the courtesy of a face-to-face meeting to discuss it. He thinks it has something to do with a letter which found it's way to the FAA detailing the company's pilot pushing and refusal to adhere to duty time regulations. The bottom line is he has no recourse or even a story to tell, detailing why he was fired, at future interviews. To kick a guy while he was down, the company refused his unemployment insurance and appealed when the State ruled in my friend's favor. That's a class operation and a prime example of why ALPA is needed in this business.

How 'bout this one: We had a pilot terminated for allegedly using a racial epithet at a bar in Amsterdam.

Turns out the pilot who actually used the word in the bar was a member of the accuser's race.

The investigation that cleared the accused pilot's name, and returned him to his job, was done entirely by ALPA. Management never lifted a finger, citing their committment to "zero tolerance".

In this case, someone was fired. It wasn't for nothing...it was for "cause". The exactlies brought the innocent, but fired nonetheless, pilot back.

How much is that worth?
