Joe,

Your biggest opposition to booting ALPA will be the mainline guys or the very senior RJ Captains who don't want to muddy the waters at the stage of their game. Oh well, ignorance IS bliss...for THEM

Actually, there is more support from the senior pilots here because they aren't afraid of stepping on toes. It is gaining steam.....

How can ALPA Merger Policy be a "seniority grab"?
You call slapping each other's hiney's around the crew room bragging about being a 767 captain ALPA merger policy? Come on, even you are smarter than that....Well, maybe not

As for scope, we have none at the regional level. It won't hurt us if it is elimated........... It may hurt you, but that isn't my concern......
Oh Johnny boy, I think you're wrong. You are already getting squeezed by Skywest inc. You should really and truly rething what your attempted lawsuit might have done had it been successful! Of course it would have really damaged you, but I could care less about you.
Oh yeah, I forgot, you don't want to leave ASA!

Obviously you haven't read ALPA merger policy... of course there aren't any pictures in it.... An ASA or CMR pilot making 767 captain would not have happened with ALPA merger policy.... Take a look at it, but keep in mind there aren't any pictures. If you have trouble with the big words, ask FDJ2 to explain it to you....

Exactly! How much worse could it get for those of us at this level? We are already getting squeezed because of no scope. Nothing will change for us. Hard for us to miss what we don't have.....

The welfare mentality is not always true though! Look at Trash States. Do you have any idea HOW MANY f the MEC guys were fired from TSA? Where was ALPA national there?
I think that ALPA swings the big bat for the majors and the regionals are left out to dry.

The basic problem is that ALPA-like the rest of the unions in this country have become big business themselves. While they tickle our ears with what they think we want to hear they are as interested in protecting their income as the companies whose workers they allegedly represent!

All I can say is with all this bickering between UNIONIZED groups we SkyWest Pilots are thrilled not to have a union at all. Don't worry there will be a screw off ALPA BBQ when the union drive fails. Even union members will be invited. We do not discriminate here. We can't wait to see you all at the BBQ in ORD when this POS union drive goes down in flames. LMAO. Here is one slogan for you guys. SKYWEST ALPA NEVER!!!!

Im glad it working for you. I really hope you keep the same management team forever. Im also wondering what your pilot group does to buy politicians in your favor. Sounds nasty? Thats the way the world works. If I contribute money to ALPA PAC to help leverage us in Washington then Im carrying those who do not want to contribute. What will you about things like cabotage. Look at the shipping industry. Thats right no American shipping companies anymore. Many politicians are just itching to go that route. Who will stand up for us as pilots when issues like that comes to play? Remember you do not operate in a vacuum. If one of us gets affected, union or not, we all hurt. We need to find a common voice to protect ourselves and our peers. Is ALPA perfect, not at all. I have been just as angry as most others. I dont think ALPA was working hard enough when we had problems with the TSA amongst other things. The diffrence is that I am willing to sacrafice to change it. Its the only thing we have and it can be good if we stick together. When your car runs a little rough sometimes it just needs a little tune up. When can do this together or we watch it fall apart in our own little corners. Look at the average middle class after unions became a smaller player. We are no different. We need to become a stronger union. Stronger than ever before in this day in age.

Not surprising at all Shrek. We are making the exact same mistake here that TSA made. Your right about Skywest Holdings.... I don't agree with ALPA. ALPA thinks they are stronger than they really are. If you don't have scope of your flying, you don't have $hit...

You're absolutely right. And the rumor in the crew lounge is that the NMB is going to tell ALPA to either put the company's last proposal (no scope, with a little money) out for vote or get parked for a year.

So what should we do? Approve the contract just to get it done, win no scope, and watch our company shrink out of existence, or continue to fight and suffer while the same thing happens?

You've advocated settling and getting it done. What should we do now?

I suspect that if they put it out for vote, it will pass by 51%. Will you vote yes or no and why?

Right now SKW is a great place to work, and they dont have a union, the management is great and they treat their employees well.
Let me ask you this, what happens when the current management is replaced? Will the new management treat you well and honor your contracts that you have in place? I hope so, if they dont who is going to fight for you? Who is going to hold the company to your contracts?
I have nothing bad to say about SKW, a lot of friends that work there and love(a few hate it). When I interviewed there I was treated very well, and offered a job with them, and I seriously considered it.
Dont burn your bridges, this is a very small industry, what you choose to do now will affect you in the future. And dont be so sure that the union drive will fail, if you want it to then best of luck, but I have heard that you guys may very well vote ALPA in.

And Ohplease, no ice forcast or reported along the route, so they did not fly into known or forcast icing, if that helps any.

ALPA? Or just a Union? As Ohplease stated, there is deffinitely a faction of hardline fanatical ALPA supporters on this thread.

That's the sick part of his story. The Union (crappy in-house) asked him for an anonymous letter detailing his experience. Somehow the FAA and the company got a copy of the letter, and my buddy got fired. The "union" refused to back him, for some unknown reason, which leaves him looking for a job. He's spoken to a few lawyers about a lawsuit under the whistle blower's protection act, but no one wants to take his case because its apparently difficult to prove.

In hindsight my friend says he would have never wrote the letter, but he never thought he would be fired because of it (he came from an ALPA carrier).

apparently there were clouds and temps. cold enough to make ice....judgement anyone????

I don't know about you, Alan, but I make it a policy not to monday morning quarterback captain's decisions. But that's just me. I know you'd hate if if you made a decision then everyone told you after the fact that you're an idiot when they weren't there and didn't have the information you had (or lacked).

Wow, the most junior domicile we have and HelloNewman is the "Voice" of Skywest. Yell louder boy! We can't hear you out here on the west coast. And if ALPA IS voted in, can we still have a bbq? I'll bring the Sweet Baby Ray's [ trade mark] to baste your ego with.

Rez,

This supports three anti-ALPA points:

1) Representation was provided by the FPA, NOT ALPA
2)The argument here is not against Unions, just against ALPA
and my final and most important point...
3) ALPA SUCKS

Well, what happens to the Comair guys if they're ever sold off? Thier whole contract is thrown out.....so whats the point?

That is a valid point. ALPA is not the answer to everything, but for me I would rather have them behind me then no one.

guys focus your anger on management, don't be suckered into turing against the unions... the unions are you, like it or not. Unless you're a company man or Chief Pilot or something..
That is kind of true.

If management offers you $5/hour to fly a 747 and you want $500. say ALPA gets you $5.50, which really sucks. Shouldn't you still be mad at the scumbags who want to pay you $5 / hour to fly a 747 while they take their $732,413 quarterly bonus because the stock price went up $0.15 over a 6 year period?
