I appreciate your well thought out responses, and I respect your opinions. too bad so many others on here reinforce the stereotypes of union thuggery.

Please keep in mind that the "thug-types" on here aren't ALPA reps. I think if you stop by one of the organizing events in your domicile, you'll find that your organizing committee members and the ALPA reps aren't "thugs" at all. They'll be happy to sit down and talk with you about any of your concerns.

I know and respect many of the the folks on the OC. they think this would be a better place to be with ALPA, and I respectfully disagree. like I always say, I'm most interested in results, history, track record. I like it here, and I don't see anywhere else that provides anything better.

Do you like how the company unilaterally imposed PBS, bucket system for reserves, new cancelled legs policy?

What do you like about those changes? Do you rationalize it by saying "the company needed those changes to successfully bid for our contracts?"

Or do you realize that the company is making HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND DIDN'T NEED TO TAKE THESE THINGS AWAY FROM THE PILOTS?

You seem to think that we should be happy to have a job. Has it ever occurred to you that the company is lucky to have you?

Jayme,

You are wrong about PBS and the bucket system. Those we placed in the CPM with the agreement of SAPA and SIA. Place blame on SAPA and SIA for those. I think they were too busy playing cheerleader for management to acurately see the mistake they were making.

I don't remember any of our fantastic SAPA reps asking us if we were okay with any of the changes, and since they are supposed to be representing us, and didn't even bother checking with us, it was a unilateral change! Management and SAPA are one and the same!!!!

He works in the classroom on the EMB. I actually thought he was pretty good instructor. Apparently someone didnt think so though.
I am not questioning his abilities and knowledge. I actually liked the training we got. But on the other hand, he needs to know that 'I wish we had people with names like John, Steve' is not the approach of the 21st century. I was put on the spot and humiliated by him in the middle of class several times.
It's all behind me know..
I met so many good people in that airline. I think the pilot group is great but few of them are spoiling it for the all.
I still think that the airline is not a friendly place for people with a certain religion and it's favoring another one despite some despicable actions by another new hire..

They are elected officals. We voted them in and we can vote them out. They are in place to make decisions on behalf of the pilot group. I hope you don't have any illusions about unions because they work in a similar fashion. ALPA MEC's can vote on MOU's without imput from the pilot group. In fact, TSA had a contract SIGNED by the MEC without the DIRECT vote of the pilot group. I'm not a fan of SAPA but that is the truth about how they work. Sorry you can't use this to bash the hard working VOLUNTEERS. Granted they have plenty of other faults that you can.

If you have an MEC that votes in contracts, side letters, etc. without the consent vote of the pilot group, then you vote them out (just like at TSA and MESA). Or you vote in LEC officers who will install an MEC that will not pass any contract or side letter without a vote by the pilot group (just like at
AWAC). Your union is only as good as the volunteers and members that run it. Doesn't sound like the guys in your SAPA group are the sharpest knives in the drawer. Or maybe they are sharper than you realize? ie:a little too close to management.

Peace.

Rekks.

OK, you got me. But you have to admit, under the current system we are losing work rules (and the $ that goes with them) and are getting nothing in return. As somebody said earlier - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Guess what: IT'S BROKE!

Looks like results at SW = pay cuts and no COLA increases...

history is one thing... but the tsunami on the horizon says another....

Will you respond to the request to remove unionfacts.org?

why do you care? people can read it and make up their own mind, right?

I care because it is spun information designed to create a negative belief in unions.

The backers of the website remain unknown and Rick B. who runs it has a shady past......

Doesn't sound really credible to me..... What do you think?

SkyNation,
If you want to continue to keep that link up with your posts, your credibility will continue to be the same as that said website, which is to say ZERO. Of course, maybe you are the backer of that website, what with all the money you make at Skywest. You spout all the same lies, half-truths and spin it promotes.

Rekks.

Rekks,

I have no idea what I've done to deserve your ire, except for that I work for SkyWest.

Do you ascribe some sort of 'truth' to unions, or do you think one can make up their own mind as to it's benefits and/or shortcoming?

I'm shocked that you and Rez have reacted this way to a stupid link that I placed in my signature. This is a forum, a place where ideas are exchanged. I present mine, and accept the freedom of others to present theirs.

Man, I hope you guys don't show up at my house asking me to burn some of my books next.
