The finance report, including the projected 2008 and 2009 annual dues collected, is available on the log in section of alpa.org
ALPA members can use their member number and password!
Obviously I don't have access to that information, but I figure that total dues assessment is around 50 to 55 million a year.
Is that a close guess?!
For the people who are bashing ALPA can you really blame the pilots at Airtran for wanting something different? Just cause you personally or a friend had a bad experience with ALPA doesnt mean everybody else did. Also at least those people are trying to do something to help, unlike you guys. If you hate ALPA so much then join the Teamsters drive. Do something other then attack others who are trying to change their airline for the better. You know the sad part is that you guys keep living in the past holding on to your beloved TWA or Eastern airlines. Those airlines are long gone and in the past. Time to look towards the future.
RS4 airbags... just when I thought I'd seen it all - LOL. (owner of a 2002 S4).
Have no idea what the amount of dues collected is per year, and yes, it's true, the Admin Assistant (secretary) to the ALPA president makes more than most of our F/O's.
That's not a sign that ALPA admin is overpaid, it's a sign of how dramatically WE are UNDERPAID.
My buddy who has no degree has a job with Verizon as an assistant manager and makes over $60k. My ex who has no degree has a job in a medical office making $60k.
The aviation profession is, as a whole, a joke in terms of compensation packages. Time, indeed, to take it the hell back!

It's actually refreshing to see a pilot group make a bold move to help their cause. I know nothing about AirTran's current union, but it's unfortunate that the the best union to join is the highest "F."
2007' RS4, fun wheels.
I agree on the income assessment but now is not the time to negotiate a contract. This perilous economy gives management way too much influence to kill a wage increase. The economy is always cyclical and the time to pounce is near the top of the curve.
I would advise any pilot group to wait 24 to 36 months to ride this storm out.
What experience do you have negotiating contracts or what places you in a postion to advise organized pilot groups?
Yeah, well, I'm too poor for one of those. I like my '02, it's easier to mod.2007' RS4, fun wheels.
I disagree 100%. Now is the PERFECT time to start negotiating in earnest, especially here.I agree on the income assessment but now is not the time to negotiate a contract. Figure 2 months to get the ALPA vote done, another 2-3 months of integration and elections, 2-3 months of bringing legal up to speed, setting strategy, and arranging initial meetings with the company, 6 months of gearing up the SPC, uniting the pilot group, and getting everyone ready for the heavier work.
Another 6 months of informational picketing, another 6 months fighting for release, and you're right at the point for self help 18-24 months away. Enough time to for the economy to be well into the recovery cycle, and for the pilot group to have saved up individual strike funds to add to the ALPA strike fund we'd have.
Waiting another 2-3 years would place us almost 10 years past our amendable date. That's not acceptable.
Well, barring any more unforeseen events, AAI is poised to make their highest yearly profit of all time next year, and probably the year after that.Yes, we looking at a definition of terms, now is the time to get the ball rolling but sitting down in actual negotiations is another.
You want your company very healthy, like when UAL got their contract in 2000'.

Guess the timing will be good then...
btw, the chick in your avatar, is that someone you know, or was that at an Audi event?
