I have a question for the Southwest guys.

Why can't the AirTran pilots become SWAPA now. I would think it would be beneficial to all for SWAPA to represent all ASAP.

I would think most AT pilots ( not all) would rather get away from ALPA.

It would be nice if it were like a light switch, but there are too many moving parts I believe. The planes have to be transitioned over (that takes alot of time), and the pilots come over in a similiar ratio to the planes. Others might have more info but that's how it was explained to me.

I was told by a SWA pilot that when SWA bought that Airline based in SLC, the pilots where SWAPA from day one , even before they started training .

Maybe this is not true .

I've heard that they didn't want to represent a contract they know nothing about, Contracts are often interpreted by "Negotiating Notes" which SWAPA had no part of the negotiations, Better to let ALPA's professionals handle this as long as they can!

I'm just ready for it all to be done and MOVE ON!!! I've been pissed on commuting on AT already, but for the most part they have treated me well! I don't use them that often because the one flight a day doesn't match up that well with my commute! Everyone needs to leave their emotions at home IT"S OVER, and if you don't like it, DELTA's hiring soon, go be an A$$ over there!!!

Red...I am too. A meaningful, and very important, first step towards that goal would be to end the pay rate inequality...the B-scale wages. I sincerely hope that SWAPA sees the benefit of that, in more ways than one, and gets it done in Contract 2012.

Don, the B-scale has absolutely nothing to do with their contract. Swapa does not negotiate for the AAI guys until we cross the petition. I would not count on anything other than the pay rate you are on until you hop the fence.

Well, they reinstated some of it. There are still months worth of posts missing. Not sure if they're still working on it or not.

I would think that SWAPA could negotiate something to the effect of -"All pilots on the AirTran side of the partition that are awaiting transition will be paid the same as a SWA pilot, whether that be the 717 or 737".

There is no reason why I as a 737-700 pilot in ATN colors should not be getting paid the same as a 737-700 pilot in SWA colors doing the same job for the same company.

There is more than one reason why this would be beneficial to SWAPA.

Spend negotiating capital for a short term raise for those not currently paying dues. Great idea!

I agree. If SWA wants to increase the pay on our side that's one thing. No need to sacrifice the big stuff for the transition. I expect to come to SWA as an FO with your scope, work rules and pay rates intact.

I have to agree with the others- I don't like you on that pay rate, but you know when you will be- in the meantime, I don't appreciate you calling your negotiated pay rate a b-scale. You aren't represented by Swapa yet, not on SWA schedules and Swa doesn't have all the integrated economies of scale that justify it- It's the rate you guys negotiated with your union taking into account the type, size and profitability of your operation- you'll be on our pay scale soon enough, in a set agreed time, as you transition and the company starts realizing the efficiencies.
Greed does not rule the roost around here.

SWAPA was more than happy to sign the agreement keeping us on our pay scale. Now the camel's nose is in the tent. If you think GK is in any hurry to get your IT problems worked out you need to submit to a drug test. This is managements wet dream.
With all due respect......Greed rules everything there.

SWAPA doesn't represent anyone on the AirTran side of the partition, so they can't negotiate anything for us.

And I don't appreciate being on a b-scale, but that's reality. We have two sets of pilots working for the same carrier (remember, SOC is already done) making different pay rates at the same longevity on the same aircraft. That's a b-scale.

SWA doesn't fly B-717's.

Furthermore, you were given the opportunity to fly for A-scale rates but you turned that down. Don't come bitching to us about your bad decisions.
