Just turned 22, I have about 1000tt and 250 multi. Are the regionals looking to hire older pilots that have the same time over younger pilots? I'm considering 135 because lack of callbacks and what seems to be hiring freezes. I would love to work 121 off the bat due to QOL but doesn't seem like it'll happen. Are there any companies that hire with these times besides the ones I have already applied: chq, asa, mesaba, pinnacle?

Thanks

You are low time, there are a lot of furloughed or otherwise qualified 121 people who you are competing with. They will tend to get called before a lower time guy will (there are exceptions, so keep applying), it has nothing to do with age. If you really want to work for a 121 company keep flying and keep your resumes up-to-date, they will call eventually.

You could also try XJT if you want to come here. Or Comair, Eagle and Colgan to name a few others that might not totally suck.Good luck.

Apply to Colgan. We hire many with your time. Come fly the Beech or Saab for a year, get 800 more hours, then either stay here or be more competitive for another outfit.

I believe CommutAir's still hiring if you can stand working on a 1900 for a while. They're a blast to fly, but a little lacking in the creature comforts. Minimum are 900TT/100ME, so you qualify.

Pay is wretched, of course... Maintenance is top-notch, though. You'll definitely live to be 23 here. :D

I'd certainly keep trying for something better, but it's something to consider.

Quality of time?

Maybe they are looking at the Quality of time, You definitely meet every commuters time requirements, We (PSA) were the last to be looking for 1500 and 250 and we recently lowered as well. At recent Airinc, Asa announced 600 and 100, so have you updated recently? We have hired a few guys with 600 TT and the one that comes to mind right off was Military w/ 500 Heavy Multi (this is what I mean with Quality of time!) I not saying that having 500 Heavy is it but you need something to set yourself apart. The reason most companies are Gun shy from Low time is because Lower time guys (not all) usually have difficulty with training. You take a guy that has been Instructing in Light singles and Twins and try to put them in a regional jet training program and they are usually overwhelmed by Auto Pilot, Glass, FMS, 2 man crew, Etc. < Before the Flaming post start, I know a lot of you guys have done it but I also know a lot of guys who didn't make it, We have a lot of guys that Interview here that washed out somewhere else, We have also washed a few as well>. Most (Not all) would like guys with Formal training background Like University Program or Structured training. Also reason why Regionals are grabbing guys from All-Atp's and similar programs ( I believe Riddle and Flight Safety now have a RJ training course to name a few) How much of your time is in the King Air??
Send resumes out again, You should here back Soon!
Good Luck,

I have somewhat quality time for someone with my time, I have 60 turbine pic, 30 turbine with fms, and glass usage. I worked with nasa testing instruments around thunderstorms in a C-90 and have done various flight tests on approachs and other systems. It is getting the company to look at the cover letter accompanied with the resume. I am set apart from the regular CFI because of some real world experience, although small.

OK, point taken

Compared to 500 heavy multi, I am still a candidate to solo
Sometimes I fill this way as well and I have 9kTT.
Anyway...
Does HR even look at Cover Letters anymore? When I have helped them, We are strictly looking at Resume's...As many Resumes as they get, you basically make a few stacks, Kind of like Elementary School...Yes, No, & Maybe. The maybe's may get there Cover Letter read and We generally read them at Interviews but we only have 1 HR recruiter for Pilots and she wears other hats. She's extremely busy.
At our place you e-mail us a Resume, We like what we see, We e-mail you a Application. You send us the Paper App back. We like what we see, We call you in for an Interview. We do not use Online Apps because we have other paperwork that we need sent in as well. (NDR with Notary stamp, Copies of License, Medical, Passports)
I have also heard that some Online Apps. are not secure websites, there is a lot of info on one of those that I do not want to be responsible for!
Good Luck,

Good Luck Man! I was hired by Corporate Airlines (now Regions Air) when I was 22 flying the JS32. I flew there for about 9 months and then came to CHQ. You meet the majority of the min's for the regional airlines.
I know that CHQ is hiring guys with 1000 and 100, so keep that resume updated and keep sending it out. My motto when looking for my first 121 job was, take the job that is offered to you first.

I wish you luck!

Wait a minute. I just thought of something. When you send your resume it doesn't (at least shouldn't) have your age on it. They have no idea what your age is, for all an HR department knows you could be a 35 year old career changer. Keep flying and keep applying. Good luck.

Apply

Apply to the ones you would like to work for, you never know. Some 121 airlines are as low as 600/100 now. I think some regionals like to take low time pilots because they will be around a little longer and then when you get to the 5-7 year mark you are out of there and some other low time pilot can take your place.

New low time pilots like yourself tend to have a more go-getter attitude then the high time more experienced pilots. Again this is all refering to the regional level.

Good luck

1000 Total Time and you have 60 hours of Turbine PIC? Sounds like Sham time. It's a red flag. If your resume was in my pile I'd toss it aside.

I guess I am just confused about what the regionals want, see I thought it was quality time rather than quantity. But if they want to hire a cfi with 1500 hrs and no real world experience then ha by all means, I just think there should be a little more consideration and everything shouldn't be so black and white. Let me explain my time and why I have it, I guarantee they wouldn't think bad of it. Just my thought

Go ahead and toss it, I earned it fair and square with hard work, I would say to you you are missing out on a good pilot

ok, I'm bored and I'll bite. Interviewer asks, tell me about your 60 hours of Turbine PIC time. Lets hear your response Young Jedi.

Don't worry about it. Apply anywhere and everywhere, and if you get called to an interview, be prepared to defend your logbook and your experiences. Hopefully, you won't need to - many airlines will see your times and ask you about it, but don't be defensive. Explain to them your varied work experiences *and what you learned about flying from them* and I'm sure you'll be fine. I've seen great pilots completely fark up interviews because of nerves, so be yourself, be honest, and you'll be alright.

BTW - I knew a guy flying skydivers in a C-90 and another guy in a twotter at age 22 with under 1000 TT...just because it may not be "normal" doesn't mean it isn't possible.

Perhaps he got to fly a King Air 90 with the owner, and the owner stuck him in the left seat and let him fly it. Since he is rated in catagory, class, and type if required (which it isn't), then he can log PIC time for all the time he is flying the airplane. Insurance requires the owner to be there, but that isn't the FAAs concern.

Two of my friends who used to work at our old flight school got a few dozen hours of King Air 90 time this way. Both are now at airlines.

FYI: It's already been established that Lequip is a douchebag on several other threads.
What this turd says on here can pretty much be completely excluded from your field of vision. Much like when you dodge dog sh!t on a stroll through the park.

Apply several places. Walk it in when you are able to. Face to face is priceless. Also, be personable in your Cover Letter. Take the time to write an individual one for each company, they know a form letter when they see one, wether it's a LOR or a Cover letter.

Read the man's A/c experience...BE-350...at least read the Info before you come up with the Hypothetical!

It all comes out in the SIM eval! TRUST ME!

We at PSA, do read between the lines, It's not all black and white!
I said Quality in a PM...If you can fly the sim, I could care less if you have 10K hours!
Good Luck,

Id definately say dont give up. I was hired by Mesaba in January after just turning 22 with 1100tt

Most of my time was CFII work and some MEI time with about 200 hours of DNR fire spotting time.

Do you have a degree?

Keep updating. Mesaba is poised for some positive movement. Theres a good chance you'll fly the CRJ if you are hired now.

Good luck!

idratherfly-

where are all the places (121 and 135) you have applied to and if all of them offered jobs, how would you rank them and why.... i'm interested in what younger people in the industry consider the "better" places to work. you can PM me the info if you don't want people to flame you (which they will, no matter what you say)
