The only solution for the APA and ALPA pilots is to strike over wages and working conditions. That's certain to solve problems. The problem though, your bargaining position has been reduced to ZERO ever since December 13, 2007.

Almost everyone on this forum (maybe 80%) opposed the Age 60 change. This wasn't a good deal for US. This was a good deal for the 55+ dudes. Just face it. It was a windfall for you. Congratulations. You spent your whole career watching the old dudes retire from the left seat, making way for you, all the while keeping your cockholster shut.

Then, when you yourself faced retirement, you suddenly became "passionate" about age descrimination and became a beacon for change. Hypocrisy with a capital H.

Good for you. You won.

Now the majority of us get to work an extra five years, with a proportianate decrease in life expectancy, to subsidize your piss-poor retirement planning. We're sacrificing money, and LIFE, for YOU.

And especially for you UF, for a MF with so many civilian flying toys as you, I have absolutely ZERO sympathy, and exponential disdain for those like you who naively and selfishly blew your wad foolishly on materialistic posessions "for the moment," as opposed to planning on the future, IRRESPECTIVE of your company's A Plan (historically, and always, a stupid move).

Windfall, Huh? Now the younger guys get to pay for your mistakes.

Piece of Advice #1: Don't advertise that you're a proponent of the change, lest you have very lonely layovers for the next five years.

Piece of Advice #2: Don't come on a forum like this advertising all the expensive ways you're spending your money in aviation as a civilian during your retirement; all the aerobatic airplanes, accolades, etc. You will get zero sympathy. When you're living in a crack shack in the bad part of town, sitting at a card table by yourself, wearing a wife-beater and boxer shorts, unshaven, with a bare-naked light bulb illuminating the table, at which you're eating Top Ramen, then you can play the sympathy card. Until then, shove it.

Coming on this board to gloat about it is like the Red Sox having a parade in Manhattan to celebrate their World Series victory over the Yankees.

Fukc off, you selfish prikcs.

Ya know, I can't help but think that its both disappointing AND pathetic for an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner to come onto a message board and gloat about a career windfall to a very small portion of pilots.

And to think this a-hole checks to see if people are of "good and moral character"..

Two points of fact here:

1) You can't strike when the NMB won't release any major pilot group - ever!

2) UF, apparently you are unable to comprehend the fact that you lost here too. It's true that the young guys lost as well. Guess what though? We are airline pilots, you are not! Nanny-Nanny f'in boo boo.

What are you saying??

If we strike, you guys are coming across the line?? That's what it sounds like.

You're upset with ALPA? Imagine how upset you are right now, and then multiply that by 10. That's how it felt to the Frontier guys YOU screwed!! That's right my friend. In a far less desperate time, you and your UAL contemporaries decided to wreck ALPA merger policy and sieze for yourself all the FAL positions.

Every single FAL line pilot honored your strike and you thanked them with a knife in the back. Now, you're going to threaten to cross OUR possible/future picket line??

Ever heard of Karma, old timer? It means you're going to get yours. I have never seen the likes of your selfish, me-first attitude. Designated examiner? You aren't worthy of examining stool samples.

Good day.

Ahh, the good ole days of being a commuter pilot.

What's that, old man? I couldn't hear you because I was laughing so hard at the thought of you missing the deadline for your precious age change. Enjoy retirement you old bastard. I hope you lose your medical and can't even fly your fancy little GA planes that you were able to buy thanks to your rapid seniority advancement due to the age 60 rule.

ALPA continued to say it was a safety issue after having failed to convince the FAA at the ARC hearings and having signed multiple contracts for different Canadian pilot groups to fly to age 65. So clearly that was a lie based on discrimination as a union. ALPA managed to get Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Oberstar, whom they have given more money than any other congressman over the years, to put in protective language denying pilots Due Process or the right to go to court; the language also violated the Constitution in several other areas and ALPA President John Prater brags about it. That will come back to haunt him and ALPA. This all shows where ALPA has put their money and lost; I expect they will lose even more over the outcome of this issue too. Labor unions are supposed to help protect the people they represent; all members, not just the junior "get out of my seat crowd." We will see how profitable it is to violate the law and work at taking away peoples constitutional rights. The cost for ALPA doing business in Washington is going to go up, because they have not dealt fairly with the older pilots they were supposed to represent. ALPA is looking less credible all the time. The price may very well be punitive damages for their misdeeds.
I agree they should have changed it to 55, you old f@ck

Undaunted -- Speaks the Reality of age 60/65!

I'm really surprised that anyone thinks I have some how come out ahead and that I am somehow gloating. The fact is that while I worked to continue to keep working, the fact is that I got nothing financially in this. I missed the cut and that's just the way it goes. I only lost everything, my job and my retirement. Yes I still have my family and fortunately my health, but that big retirement as was promised by ALPA if the age 60 rule was kept, was not there. So be it.

I have been fortunate in my life on many fronts so I just take the unlucky breaks along with the lucky breaks. All total, I have been fortunate and I do know that.

But I will say that I guess I am somewhat pleased that those on this board (you know who you are) who had no compassion and were so adamant that I any other 59-year old (even the guys with the small Regionals who never made any money to speak of and who had no retirement at all) get out of their seat just so the young crowd could get promoted, that they now got what was coming to them: 5-years of stagnation and the need to work to age 65. Yes you will...

So you see those of us who were the biggest loud mouths, pro and con, (the “get out of my seat crowd, and yes, even me) all of us lost! The only winners were the age 55 to 58-year old group who kept quiet and picked up the pieces. I am afraid that they are now eating our lunch while we fought with each other.

Oh yes, if it makes anyone feel better, I have sold my airplane (and my Honda Rune) because I could not afford that lifestyle any more. Does that really make you happy? Probably so!

I still have my life, my family, my health and my other aviation work. While I’m not in HNL sipping MiaTia’s, that’s probably better in the long run. I am certainly no less happy. In fact, I would say that my quality of life is better than ever.

By the way, you’re all invited to my reality retirement party, January 29th at Chuck’s in HNL. MiaTia’s and dinner included. Please RSVP if you care to attend. I really love all of you, even the "get out of my seat crowd" from FI.

I am sorry about that ... I really am. You see I can relate, I'll never be able to afford one.

Reminder:

We will be having a post age-change get-together in San Antonio, Texas on February 8th. Attendees will be respnsible for their own room and dinner costs. APAAD will NOT be picking up the tab for attendees in order to ensure fiscal responsiblity/accountability.

Bid accordingly if you want to attend.

APAAD (Airline Pilots Against Age Discrimination)
[email protected]

GET REAL GEEZER! I'm not a member of AARP yet so I'm not sure my crowd and your crowd will have much to talk about. Unless of course I bring in some B-29 and P-51 models.

Dinner will be promptly at eight, except those of you who fell asleep on the couch in the lobby waiting for a room.

Dinner will consist of Gerber carrots, sweet potatoes, green beans, and mixed meat served with a spoon or a straw.

All dinner seating is water proof with individual seat pads in case of failure/lack of Depends.

Dinner attire is black uniform slacks, white socks, black shoes, and members only jackets. No exceptions.

Fixodent and other adhesives will be available at each table prior to dinner being served.

Wives are always permitted for those of you who still have contact with your third or fourth spouse.

Hearing aids can be purchased at the door for a flat fee.

As always, cane and walker parking is free of charge for those staying in the hotel.

For those attending that can't remember whether they are staying in the hotel or not, a hotel employee dressed as an FO will guide you back to your room after the evenings festivities.

OMG!! That is frikin funny!

Fact of the matter is that he is probably a pissed off miserable old man. He's probably the guy who hangs out at FBO's and tries endlessly to get people to listen to his BS aviation stories all the while no one gives a rats. We have those "gummers" at my local airport. What a shame. Just can't move on. Gonna try till the last day to recapture something that was lost A LONG TIME AGO.

Geez....some people really need to just sit back and take a deep breath.

I'm sure this event isn't going to have a ton of people attending. But to the few who have been working on this for over 17 years, they should be congratulated for thier tenacity and their organization. They did it right, with their continuous visits to WAshington DC, they made every representative aware of this issue.

Foir the opposition, it is hard to overcome a 17 year headstart, especially when one knows that the international community is making the change. Once that happened, you had to know....I mean, you just had to know that the change was gonna cvome to this country too. Is there anyone out there who really didn't think the age would change in the U.S. after the ICAO change took place?

While the APAAD guys took their fight to the halls of congress, the pilots against all this decided to fight it out on web boards and crew room discussions...seems congress doesn't spend too much time on FI.com. Seems nobody or very few wanted to organize to put forth any credible opposition to this rule change

A 390-0 vote in the House and Unanimous consent in the Senate says it all....the oppositioin couldn't even get one token "no" vote...not one.

Maybe that is what stings so much...

A Federal Law has been changed , no small feat, no matter how you look at it. If you can't get this resloved within yourself, you really need to go see someone...get some help....Therapy.....

And, if this age change is the absolute worst thing that has happened in your life, then you have lived a verrrry good life, because there are many out in the USA who have it much, much worse than you do.

Good Grief!

You guys keep complaining about it,...this is going to be describing each of you in about 30 years...

Not to pick nits tejes, but there was no "vote" in the senate. Nobody even knows how many people were even in the room when the measure was punched through with no opposition.

That being said, we all know you wanted this to pass, and you won. Why don't you give it a rest and quit rubbing everybody's nose in it.

I suspect what happened here with Undaunted is he realized that a lot of people know who he is and that he is now an examiner and it wouldn't go over to well in OKC for them to find out that he was stirring up crap on the internet with any working pilot he could incite.

Probably got read the riot act at work, went home, got lit up on some cheap wine and confessed his sins of FI, trying to make up some of the ill-will he had engendered on here over the years.

The pro-change guys should try to show some class and leave it alone. You won, quit gloating and go enjoy your ill-gotten gains.

Please.

Does this mean you're not coming to my birthday party?

...in HNL sipping MiaTia’s,

What the heck is a Mia Tia? Some sort of gay cocktail?

I really love all of you, even the "get out of my seat crowd" from FI.

Denial, it ain't just a river in Africa. Nope, UF never benefitted from the age 60 rule as guys above him retired so he could make it to that lofty Left Seat. Instead, he was bestowed with the title of Captain by the Lady of the Lake and her scimitar Excalibur; so therefore, he was never a part of the "get out of my seat crowd" in his younger days.

Selfish idiot.

Selfish idiot.

Does this mean you're not coming either?

For those who have never known:

The Mai Tai is a well-known alcoholic cocktail purportedly invented at the Trader Vic's "Polynesian-style" restaurant in Oakland, California in 1944. Trader Vic's amicable rival, Don the Beachcomber, claimed to have created it first in 1933 at his own newly opened little bar (later a famous restaurant) in Hollywood. The Beachcomber's recipe is far more complicated than that of the Trader's and tastes quite different.
"Maita'i" is the Tahitian word for "good." The spelling of the drink, however, is two words.[1][2][3]
The Trader Vic story of its invention is that the Trader (Victor J. Bergeron) created it one afternoon for some friends who were visiting from Tahiti. One of them tasted it and cried out: "Maita'i roa!" (Literally "good very!", figuratively "Out of this world!") — hence the name.

Recipe

There are many recipes for mai tais. Seven of them, including three different versions of Trader Vic's, as well as the supposed original recipe of Don the Beachcomber, can be found here.

Nobody even knows how many people were even in the room when the measure was punched through with no opposition. ---->True...in that nobody knows how many were in the room when this vote took place. However, it is still considered a "vote". The Senate votes in this manner on many different issues...and be rest assured, it really is considered a "vote" . Also remember that in the House, even with a 390-0 vote tally, there were 45 Representatives that chose not to even vote on this issue.

Somehow, I'm left with the impression that there are many pilots who aren't all that familiar with Parlimentary Procedure as it applies in the way our elected Representatives conduct votes on the floor of the House and the Senate. And I'm sure many took Civics/Government classes in High School

That being said, we all know you wanted this to pass, and you won. Why don't you give it a rest and quit rubbing everybody's nose in it.--->I really wouldn't have posted had I not read all the whining going on....

Tell ya what....if I don't see any whining...then I won't post on this issue any more. But, if I see some whining going on...then I'll post.

If you are a copilot..........remember to put each and everyone of the gummers on your no fly list as they celebrate their 60th......kind of a little present don't you think..........

If it's so well known, why do you keep misspelling it? Did you have to look up "Mia Tias" in a dictionary after I mentioned it or what?

And you thought it was a "gay drink." That's funny!

And you thought it was a "gay drink." That's funny!

Jesus H Christ, you're an idiot. Have you ever heard of the word sarcasm? I know what the drink is and how to spell it; I was bashing on you for misspelling it multiple times, but apparently you're too stupid to pick up on that.

... Is there anyone out there who really didn't think the age would change in the U.S. after the ICAO change took place?...

You mean like the rest of the ICAO rules that we have exceptions to???

Come on...just because the euros want to shove something down the collective throats of the rest of world, we don't have to listen. We do it all the time. Now for some reason this becomes the 'right thing to do'?? What a bunch of bull$hit.

These morons should be treated as pariahs and undermined at every opportunity. They're a bunch of self-serving scumbags.

I think you thought a MaiTai it was a "gay drink" just as you wrote. I can only take you at your written word. And it says you thought it was a "gay drink." Why did you say it was a "gay drink" no matter how it was spelled. Incorrect spelling does not make anything "gay" yet you seem to think it does. Your spelling excuse just doesn't make sense, otherwise if spelling was a reason to bash someone, 100% of this board would be called "gay" by you. Come on, tell the turth, you thought it was a "gay drink" just as you posted.
