What is a realistic timeframe to Captain if hired in this current wave? I know there are lots of variables here but any educated guesses? Wondering if I should jump ship.

Congrats to AMR on the new hiring. If I were making a move to the majors, AMR would rank would rank #1. Lots of movement in the next few years.

I'm super curious what's on the medical exam or what they look for.

Unless they have changed it, stricter than most. A friend got all the way through years ago only to get dropped for taking cholesterol lowering med's and a little above the suggested weight / height index.

I took a look at the retirements at AMR and it equals about 3700 retirements in the next decade. At that point you would still be an FO absent a substantial amount of growth considering the current list has 9600 pilots.

Judging how well airways has done in past mergers there's a chance active us air captains could get plunked behind American new hires.

After the announcement of the Merger (02/2013) it will go by date of hire. No other logical way to do it boss....I guarantee it!
