Exactly what worries me! Let Medeco continue to whistle past the graveyard. I sure get the feeling he is getting paid to do so.

That only happens to the morons who don't learn the system. The junior guys don't have to worry about that, because all that is left for them is 4 day trips. It's only the guys with seniority and don't know how to bid that can hose them self up. One just has to laugh!

Can we get some pilots who don't say DUDE!, MAN!, BRO! in every other sentence? Or how abouts some who actually take pride in how they do their jobs, and are self aware, introspective, and who don't act as if they're the Captain when they don't know that TAS decreases with altitude for a given Mach number?

Or heck, I'd be happy with one who doesn't check their facebook page between turns and does post-flight walk-arounds. Are there any dopes like that in the hiring pipeline? Probably not.

Did you go to Embry-Riddle or something?

Oakum,

Don't hold your breath.

You would think DR could do a little better job with finding folks with a little work ethic!

Don't hate me because I'm popular, Riddler (or old person), try to be more like me! RELAX a lil bit and stop telling FOs "I'm pretty laid back but I fly standard"

Dunno who you flew with but the FO you had troubles with doesn't represent all FOs... try to remember back to the old days when you were once an FO (or were you one of those capt hires off the street?)

We need more pilots and unless your golden touch has trained every single one of them, it's gonna be a mixed bag. Our interview process doesn't weed out the sweet talkers.

oh and P.S., I've never missed a walk-around pre or post. Neither have most FOs I know.

How? Rampers make more than a first year FO. How many of those have that work ethic you are looking for?

that loser still there at ASA? worse CP ever!

Yes they pulled him off the farm for some HR work. I guess they couldn't find any one else?

YES the worst ever!

I'm thinking they dont whip out the "Bro" talk and the FB checks during the interview process.

May we should check their FB before a final decision is made to hire them.

Wow. You are a nerd.

If you think you captains are so perfect then you've got bigger issues than these imaginary FOs you're complaining about. We might have a few oddballs in our group, but most of us have spent years listening to left seat bullcrap from captains who spent 2 months as FOs and never sat a day on reserve. Cut the FOs some slack. I've never heard of an FO not doing walkarounds, either. And if after the FO does the walkaround, gets ATIS/clearance, AND programs the FMS for some of our lazier captains, on a 30 min turn, who cares if he wants to check his facebook status after he/she is through?

I think some of the problem captains we have are the result of quick upgrades. At no point in our history until now have we had 5 or 6 year first officers. The ELFs of the world were all upgraded much quicker, and I really don't think they were in the right seat long enough to ever learn how to relate to other people. 6 years in the right seat will teach you a thing or two about being flexible.

Some of our captains would do well to be displaced for a month...

ELF is a jerk, a pure jerk (because I can't say online what I really want to), and I'll tell him that to his face, behind his back, and to anyone who ever asks.

But he's our jerk! And I'm happy to have him working on our behalf for the combined list. Everything else you said is spot on. My favorite story is watching his reaction just after he bit into a raw chicken sandwhich from Wendy's. I offered him a handwipe to use for his mouth, he wasn't amused.

You boys need to grow a thicker skin and go into it with less of a confrontational attitude. Agreed, he certainly can come off as an ass to start. However, if you do your job like it's supposed to be done, and don't act like a jackass in return, he quickly becomes pretty pleasant to fly with, believe it or not! If you're expecting him to be a jerk, I assure you he's expecting exactly the same thing.....and it's a self fulfulling reality.

Many of our pilots either have reading comprehension issues or learning disabilities becuase they make the same mistakes over and over again without thinking- hey, that didn't work, maybe I'll try something different.. or maybe I'll look that up because I don't know it.. some never learn at all. Try that junk in the medical field and you'll get outed right away and sent back to LPN school. Talk about that particular captain all you want but let it be known, if you've had a problem with him, you probably need to get in the books or check the Generation Me attitude at the door and pay attention.

Flame away, flamers..

Yeah? He's not a bad guy in the crew lounge.

As for being an FO, I don't get paid enough to give a damn bro.

heat of the matter right there... getting abused by the company and taking in the crap salary we do doesn't lend itself to giving a d@m# about the company or doing anything extra beyond the job description. Certainly don't get paid well enough or treated well enough to put up with the BS some captains dish.

You could do everything perfect and he will still be a horses arse.

Don't worry guys. Our MEC took care of him by appointing him chairman of the merger committee. He will now decide the seniority fate of FOs. We need to recall these quacks.

Actually, for All his faults, I think he will fight fairly for the whole group. I want him on that team.

He WILL NOT interpret the contract and read it to you, he expects you to know it as well as he does. But be will fight for a fair solution for everybody.

He is intolerant of what be perceives as ignorance in his FO's. He does not handle it well though.

Never flown with the guy but based on what I hear, he must be one perfect pilot. There should be a zero tolerance policy for that kind of behavior. Learn some manners, right? Creates a dangerous cockpit environment, esp with junior FOs who may be more susceptible to intimidation. Classic CRM case.
