    Flying Journal

I've started to keep a journal of sorts about what I learn from my flying lessons and the overall experience. I figure that not only will it be nice to look back on, and a great way to solidify what I've learned, but in hearing talk of CFI training and people needing to remember back to how...

    On the street

Man, I hate to hear that. We haven't talked in a while, but you'll probably look back on this when you have an even better job and be thankful for this.

    Engine loss on takeoff

Tonight was a pretty sobering experience for me. I borrowed my friend's digital camera to go to the airport to get some pictures of the flight line and such for my flying club, when a lady pulled up right beside me and asked if "that plane" was crashing, pointing to the edge of the airfield...

    avatar?

If you have windows xp, powertools let you just right click on the image and hit "resize pictures." Just hit custom and type 150 x 150.

    First solos suck

Mine wasn't too long ago. My first landing was pretty hard. It was a little unnerving, so I taxied off and swung by the run-up area again and did a run-up not only to check things out, but to make things feel normal in the takeoff. Then the second landing I was told to back-taxi. I had never...

    Keg in a plane

We're actually just transporting an empty keg shell to an airport about 30 miles away. No actual alcohol involved. It's for a joke for a rival school at a fly-in. I just wanted to check because although we like to have fun, safety comes first, and we of course take flying very seriously...

    Keg in a plane

Random Question: Are there any rules against carrying an empty beer keg in a general aviation airplane? I'm not going into the reason now, but I was just wondering. Thanks.

    Don't Try This in Pakistan

I say if you do that cr@p, you get the he!l out of this country. You don't like our flag, we don't like you. And we don't. Man I'd like to get one of these stuck up pieces of cr@p behind a woodshed...

    Logging Total Time

When having similar conversations with my instructor, he tells me that if it doesn't feel right logging it, then don't log it (after the prereqs of FARs, of course). One thing I really respect about him is his vigilance in logging. Try this one out: Let's say you are a flight that you could...

    Health Problems???

I'm looking to get a job as a line tech, but a friend told me that he wouldn't do it because he values his health too much to work around leaded gasoline like that. Is it really a problem? What are your thoughts and advice? Thanks a lot!

    Eyesight

I got a first class when I started flying just to make sure there wasn't anything at this point that would hold me back from getting one in the future. I don't wear contacts or glasses, and they gave me the first class. Does that mean I have 20/20 vision?

    Turbines, Turbofans, Turboprops, oh my!

I'm having a hard time understanding the difference in engine types. I hear people talking about them, but sometimes I just get confused. Could someone simplify for me how turbine, turbofan, turbojet, and turboprop are related?

    Where's Waldo

I started wondering when nothing was interactive about the game and there were banner ads on the page that didn't quite seem to coincide with a kid's game. Scared the crapola out of me.

    Aviation degree/Non-Aviation degree

I am working on a non-aviation degree, and I plan on flying for a living. Hopefuly it will be something to fall back on, and might come in handy as a good stepping block if I need a job to get some flying in right when I get out of college. I want to make the most out of life, and I hope that...

    AA Emergency Landing?

With witty intuition and wisdom like that, he is perfect pilot material. Thank you Captain Obvious.

    Posters

Anyone know where I can find a good selection of aviation posters? I've looked on those "we have every poster in the world" websites, but I can't find one that I really like. I saw one at my FBO in AHN that was an F-14 at sunrise on a carrier looking head on. I can't find it anywhere. Yall...

Here is a tricky FAR question...

...whether the CFI would want the student to or not is a different story, but the framework is definately in place.

Here is a tricky FAR question...

I think that it is pretty clear from reading 61.87(m) that they can. If they weren't allowed, then the FARs would not tell you the requrements and limitations on solo flight at night. It would specify that xc flights aren't allowed if that was the intent.

Logging 2nd in command as safety pilot

That's my whole point, is that I am reading it and thinking for myself. Much of the stuff that I read on this board I agree with, but will play devil's advocate with another view for the sake of learning. If one can make points on a subject from any angle, it is clear that he knows it, and...
