Make the AA hop next year?

I've known more than a few corporate CAs making close to 200K who lost jobs since 2008 and can't find jobs anywhere near what they use to have. For every dude telling you 121 is toast and their deal is safe, I would be very, very cautious....

Air Tran and Delta Jump Seat

You do realize that SW does charge a pax trying to change a fight the new flight fee? The new fee is often much more than the typical €75 charged by other airlines to switch flights.

    Negotiations in public

No kidding. However it's pretty ironic with deltas scope, they have hired 1500 since 97 and UAL still has 1500 on furlough.

    SWA culture!

yeah, but it's not worth 4.5 times of what SW is. That's like saying the peso is worth 10 times the dollar because you can 10x more. The worth is the market cap or share price times number of outstanding shares.

    What would you do?

On furlough means not on the active list. If any merger happens, any furlough will fall in behind all active folks, imo. Take a look at CAL/UAL. Retirements are good as long as retirement age doesn't change and the company doesn't shrink.

    What would you do?

There's a huge future in charter, just not for pilots. The problem is, there are almost zero entry requirements to start up a shop. Add pilots willing to fly for almost nothing and the result is thousands of charter companies out there all trying to undercut each other.

    What would you do?

What protections do you have? IOW, what if the charter company closes up shop next week or they lose business or some new manager comes around who doesn't like you and decides you need to go bye, bye? Ask yourself-which company and position will most likely be around in 20 years?

Anyone know the next Air Tran interview

I know Delta hates soldiers...but now they're anti-semitic as well

And to know this guy is a senior sw pilot.

Man alleges Delta employee urinated on luggage

It's certainly more aviation related than urinating on luggage. Strange.

SWA/AAI and the flight deck jumpseat

Speaking of which.... Houston Pilot Suspended For Slurs, Swearing Over Air Traffic Radio :D http://m.click2houston.com/wap/news/text.jsp?sid=323&nid=53238571&cid=19230&scid=-1&ith=0&title=Top+Stories

Any SWA or Airtran pilots see recent SLI at Mesaba/Colgan/Pinnacle?

And it's Herb who created the culture. Herb=management. :)

    Frontier Pilots approve concessions 498-58

    No kidding.

    NJA 1st QTR Earnings

I would guess that 121 capacity reductions and last minute airfares that are 100-200% higher they were just a few years ago, the frax costs must be going thru the roof.

Delta #1 at Something: Baggage Fees of $952 Million

Airlines have learned from history, however. Case in point, capacity discipline leading to the maintaining of higher fares/yields. In years past, profitable years led to massive increase in capacity And resulting erosion of fares. No increase in capacities this time around. Those who don't...

SWA/AAI and the flight deck jumpseat

LOL-makes for a really cool tshirt saying. Herb was the "culture." The SW success comes from the business model. Do you really believe you have special HR people to secretly screen real "people people?" Microsoft also still believes they are the best high-tech company in the industry because...

SWA/AAI and the flight deck jumpseat

Exactly-every airline pilot pushes strollers/wheelchairs, etc when able. Funny thing is, I have many, many buds who are furloughed AA, UA, and CAL who got hired at SW and all say they work no harder or serve the customer any less than when they were at their previous jobs. The general feedback...

SWA/AAI and the flight deck jumpseat

Bingo-summed up perfectly. You could transpose every Airtran/Spirit/AAI/US/AW pilot with every pilot ever hired at SW and you would have the exact same company, thanks to the business model and some hedging decisions. For some reason they think they have a unique skill set.
