Just heard the same thing from a union guy. Apparently the company is trying to get these cost reductions through elimination of soft time (primarily vacation low), L-XJT's defined contribution 401K and some other stuff.
Or it could be a way for management to utilize a pilot group, whose flying is slated to shrink, to fly another aircraft type for another mainline partner at a "competitive" rate amidst a regional pilot shortage.
