I don't know the answer to your question....but the routes that DHL awards are being awarded to pilot groups making more and less than what we do. They like preventing any one pilot group from having too much power. The more they spread out the flying, the better they feel.
I think the conversation had something to do with the belief the guy had that DHL wouldn't use lots of contractors because UPS and FEDEX do not operate that way. Also something about better on-time performance if you use just one or two companies??? I don't recall exactly. The route went to a...
I already predicted/ mentioned this over a year ago. ...that DHL wouldn't just use Astar and Airborne.. They will give the flying to Gemini, Northwest, Kitty Hawk, Kalitta, etc. I think that I mentioned the word nieve to some Airborne pilot.....just because he is not yet familiar with the ways...

A story in Thursday's Business section about ABX Air's request for listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange should have reported the company...
Rhoid,
How come you know so much about ABX Air? Do you have a cousin/ brother/ father, etc who works there? I heard some mention about the DC-8 clogging the throat at a meeting on Thursday, so I think that the word should be getting out soon.

"As for the consolidation, If you guys are hauling as much freight as we are, there's going to be plenty of growth. We are running several extra flights EVERY night and the weekends too. I have seen analyst expectations of DHL capturing up to 18% of the market by end of 2006, they have 7% now...
The second decision came in November, when DHL said it was moving only 26 planes from Cincinnati (owned by Astar Air Cargo) to Wilmington. Hete said there was worry that DHL would move up to 40 planes, which would have displaced existing ABX Air operations.
Abxbooger,
What is your take on...
There is a hotel in Miami that only has airline crews as customers. I was there last month, and found that my television wasn't getting any more than 3 staticy channels. I called the front desk, and they sent up the maintenance guy. He told me that the room next door must have disconnected...
If you are worried about the 5 year upgrade, I would then pass up the interview. I've been with Astar for over 5 years, and it will probably be another 3 to 5 years before I get my chance to upgrade. We already had one corporate guy interview, accept the job, and then not show up for training...
Astar does not own 757's. That would be one of the 3 or so European outfits that moves DHL freight. Only 727's, DC-8's, and old Airbus 300's (all 3 man crew airplanes).
40,000 feet max altitude......and we are currently flying around at FL 270/ 280. RVSM paperwork has been submitted to the FAA for approval. Yes..I know..it looks bad flying from Cincinnati to Los Angeles at FL 280.
I agree with GOASTAR. We get first crack at the bid only... which doesn't mean much because in a bidding situation, the lowest bidder wins...not always the first bidder. I printed off a copy of that section of the ACMI agreement and put it somewhere. It did not make me feel like Astar had...
Who was the Airborne guy who predicted that they would get San Juan, Puerto Rico back? Obviously you have a reliable source. I am afraid to ask. What other changes are coming down the pipe?
The starting a new airline was reffering to Europe. I fully understand that DHL Ground cannot run their own airline in the United States. Contracting new routes to NWAC Cargo (many more 747's to Asia), Gemini, ect is what I meant for the United States vs growing Astar or Abex Air. But I may...
For Abexbooger... When you say that DHL has 2 airlines and does not want anymore, I think you are a little on the nieve side/ haven't figured DHL out yet. What we've heard and have seen is that DHL would like to have many different airlines flying for them separately. (Kind of like a Comair/...
