I'd stay away from bombers due to limited choice of bases. Given your situation (38 track), a fighter would be the better choice. I don't know your situation, but when I was in UPT (way back when), dudes were getting fed up with the AETC mentality. Fighters weren't a choice assignment back then...
It's about time someone up in management saw the light. -900s are nice and big but it's not made for transcon flights due to fuel/weight issues. -800s with winglets will be cool! Good on ya, Alaska!
question for you B737-400/NG drivers....
when setting the final approach speed, is there an additive for "steady" wind besides the Vref+5? 1/2 steady state pluse full gust not to exceed 20 kts is for gusts only, correct? For example... for winds 160@30 kts. (no gust), do you add 15 kts. to Vref...
When I went through AFROTC years ago, a technical degree was preferred over a non-tech degree if you were competing for a pilot slot. It was also a requirement if you wanted to attend Euro Nato Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) at Sheppard AFB; depending on the times, this is where tops...
Just before I left lovely Del Rio by the sea last summer, there was an individual who got a B-2, though I can't remember whether it was a FAIP or a UPT graduate. I'd seriously consider one's "seat endurance" before deciding to fly the B-2, and not to mention being stationed at another garden...
It's probably very similiar to your 141 days; yeah, plan on adding 3-7 days onto your SRT since the FRED tends to want to sit on the ground. Attached guys tend to have better control of their lives since they are committed to their "additional duty". When I was "loaned out", I didn't fly for...
try www.extendedstay.com . The Crossland Economy Studios in Kent is $199/week. It has a little kichenette and a double size bed and it's about 5 miles south of the airport. If you stay for more than 30 days, it's tax exempt; this rule applies to any hotels/motels in Washington. There are fully...
Check out www.baseops.net . This sight has job listings and phone numbers. March ARB in Riverside has C-130, C-141, and KC-135s. There is a C-130 unit in Oxnard (Hollywood guard?) and they are transitioning into the J model, which would be cool. Up in northern CA at Travis AFB, there are KC-10...
Talk to the recruiter but here's my .02 from my experience. I had a similar situation in '90 (tough times back then). Nothing is guaranteed until you get orders for UPT......even then, nothing is guaranteed until you start UPT; get my drift?!?!
Enlisting in the ANG/Reserves in hopes of...
There are many posts in this forum regarding this subject, if you haven't already run into it. Yeah, it's a great time to join the military if you want to fly; there are certainly more than a few going through UPT now adays. What I'm about to mention has been repeated more than enough times, but...
Awesome! Question.....If you get a 737, I thought you're qualified in all of the different types of 737's; did the "differences" course go away and this is not true anymore? In a way, it would make life more simple. :)
I, for one, am leaving. That's been my plan all along. All but a few dudes/dudettes in my squadron are all bolting too; some have airline jobs, some have guard/reserve jobs, and some have both. The few who are sticking around really like the military flying and the lifestyle; more power to them...
